Camp Outlook

It had been an exhausting day so we decided to find out where the nearest campground was. We punched into the GPS 'Campgrounds' and chose the one that was 2nd closest (we thought we had a 1/2 hour or so in us still). As we drove up we were a little surprised at the well lit campground. When we saw the sign we realized the 'campground' wasn't for us!

We all laughed so hard that we were crying! Needless to say we kept on going!

A Hiccup

The next day we awoke eager to continue our journey to Nana's house! Sadly the trailer tire blew!

While we waited for the tow truck to arrive, the kids played baseball with pieces of wood and Ashton played in the dirt with her dolls.

During the time that new tires were being put on the trailer, the kids and I went to Dairy Queen. It put us behind schedule but at least everyone made the most of it!

On Our Way!

We purchased a very, very, very small tent trailer. It is more a glorified tent on wheels. There is no table, sink, or anything fancy... literally two boards that open up. There were two big draws for us. The first is that it is basically a tent that essentially sets up with the flip of the 'lid' and when we were expecting to arrive at destinations late at night we really appreciated a quick bed set up! The other big plus was that it doubled as a trailer! It allowed us to carry less in our van (or take more..... which ever way you choose to look at it :).

It always amazes me to travel through the country and see the beauty around. Breathtaking!

Here it is set up at Klamath Falls Oregon! We are on our way!

Natural Bridges Beach

It was a PERFECT day for the beach. The weather was wonderfully warm (I am usually in a sweatshirt at the beach- sad but true). The kids met some of their friends there so it was a good 'good-bye CA beaches' get together!

I had bought a 2L of Strawberry Soda a month or so ago and Alex absolutely loved it. When I was getting our food for the beach I almost bought another... then I saw it! Individual cans! What a great concept. It was a special treat. (Another plus was drinking it at the beach made for super easy clean up if some of it spilled!

The scenery is so beautiful at Natural Bridges. It was such a gorgeous day that I even called my sister and made her listen to the ocean. We all had such a great time. The only thing that would have made it better was being able to take a nap! That's the only downer when you take a bunch of kids to the beach by yourself (and yet I still do it!).

It is these kinds of days that make me realize how lucky I am to live here. You really can forget almost everything in the world while you sit and relax and listen to the ocean!

Cousin Caroline's Baby Blessing

We were so lucky to live close enough to Kevin's brother Steve and sister-in-law Suzette so we could attend their sweet little baby's blessing. Here is Kevin with 2 of his brothers (Ken, and then Steve).

The pile of cousins (without Ashton and Izzie... ) from both sides. Cute kids!

Will Rogers Beach

Going down to LA just wouldn't feel the same without heading to a beach. Because we were in town for a baby blessing, we headed to Will Rogers Beach.

The big appeal for me about this beach is how close the parking is! It is always a little challenging when you are taking young children to negotiate walking through the deep sand and balancing everything else (while carrying that tuckered out toddler). As you can tell by the pics you everyone had a great time!

Genghis Khan Exhibit

We were so lucky to be able to visit the Genghis Khan Exhibit at the Tech Museum in San Jose. The exhibit highlighted both his military campaigns and his establishment of the Mongol empire. It was interesting to see his statesmen side. The kids also really enjoyed seeing his family tree (especially his link to the Kublai Khan who Marco Polo explored for).

Being the ruler he was, Genghis required his visitors to bow at his feet. Of course all of the older kids thought that was hilarious and gladly complied. (If it is so much fun, maybe I should have them bow at my feet when asking for rides, parties, money.... jk)

I was also pleased to see a hands on excavation site for the kids to dig in. They had some beautiful replicas in the 'dirt' which fueled the archeological excitement!

Overall, I was impressed with this exhibit. They balanced weapons with Imperial costumes in an engaging way so all that attended were interested. There were also only a few things behind glass which also made it feel more personal. The informational movies were also just the right length to give the 'must know all the details 12 year old girl' and short enough for the 'how long do I have to sit' 6 year old boy. My kids and I (especially the girls) enjoyed it a lot more than we expected.
