Dallin Piano Recital May 2011

Last week Dallin and Matthew had their Spring Piano Recital (I will post Matthew's page and songs in a day or two). It is always so much fun to see all their hard work pay off. And forDallin, he really did have to work hard the week before his recital. Practicing the piano is not his favorite thing so he really had to spend a lot of time practicing right before his recital - luckily Ed can play the piano and is great at helping the boys with their songs. Dallin did figure it out by the time the recital rolled around. He didn't play his songs as well as he can at the recital but he still did a GREAT job!

Teacher Thank Yous

This year I felt like I had to come up with something a little extra for my kids teachers - specifically Brecken's Pre-School teachers. The problem is there are 2 bus drivers, 2 bus driver aides (a bus driver and aide are on the bus each way), his teacher, her 3 aides, a speech therapist, an occupational therapist, a physical education teacher (which he doesn't need help with gross motor but he is there the day she comes so he gets that as well), and other random people. So, I couldn't spend a lot of money on their thank yous since just for pre-school I needed to have 4 for bus drivers and 8-10 for his classroom teachers/helpers. Plus 3 for the other boys' teachers. I decided that I would spend my time making them 7 different treats. I made:

* Chip Cookies (4 different kind of chips in them)
* Chocolate Cookies
* Chocolate Caramel Rice Krispies (I dipped them in chocolate instead of drizzling it on all sides, so much easier and I like how they look better)

I found these really cute black with white polka dot gable boxes online to put all the treats in. Originally, I was going to take all the treats to pre-school and let them fill their boxes with the treats, but that got to hard - it was a lot easier for me to fill the boxes. Hopefully they liked the treats and know how much I appreciate ALL they have done for my little guy this year. I truly love all of them!

Brecken's Pre-School Program

A couple of days ago, Brecken's cute little pre-school class had a picnic (indoors) and program. It was adorable! Brecken was so happy to see me come and so excited when I gave him his lunch box filled with his favorites (juice, gold fish, pb&J, and strawberries). After eating, Brecken and his class sang 3 little songs for the parents. At first, Brecken didn't sing - but then he realized what was going on and started to sing. He did a GREAT job! He knew the words and the actions! I can't believe how much this little guy has learned this past 7-8 months! I am so glad he has been able to go to this pre-school.

Gavin's 6th Birthday!

Gavin LOVES LOVES LOVES Mario - so this year for his 6th birthday, he had a Mario birthday! Here are the pages from his birthday (presents with family & cake with friends). I made the cake for his actual birthday. The cupcakes and cookies were all for his friend party the day before (which I will blog about soon and give details on) - we just had leftovers.

Gavin is so much fun! So full of life and GOOFY! We sure LOVE him!

Gavin Logic?

Tonight when Gavin was coming up with excuse after excuse as to why he couldn't go to sleep (it was 10:30 by this time), he said,

When it's Saturday my feet will be tired.

What does that even mean? It is Thursday! That kid is hilarious!

Easter Egg Hunt 2011

I LOVE LOVE LOVE having an Easter Egg Hunt every year! I LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing all the little kids' faces (50+ faces) light up when they see all the Easter Eggs (over 1400 this year) spread out and "hidden" in my backyard (okay - in my old backyard - we haven't sold our house yet and it has a FABULOUS backyard so we had our hunt there). We didn't have great weather but we also didn't have bad weather. There have been years that we had to have our hunt after Easter due to snow. The day before Easter, the day of our hunt wasn't sunny or real warm but it wasn't raining, snowing, or freezing - so it wasn't too bad of a day to hang out with friends, eat yummy treats, and find some Easter Eggs! Thanks to everyone for coming and making it such a fun day! And thanks to my friend Dani for taking most of these pictures with my camera - it is kind of fun to be in a few pictures (and Ed was there but didn't seem to make it in any pictures - sorry Ed).

Lemon Basil Pasta with Grilled Chicken Recipe

I didn't take a good picture of this (but if you go to my cousin Amanda's site, where I found the recipe, there is a great picture - click here) but oh my goodness this is SUPER YUMMY! I made it a couple of weeks ago and then again last night for a baby shower and it is so good. I never would have thought to put lemon on pasta but it is so light and tasty. And the grilled chicken makes it a meal (I can take or leave the basil).

Anyway, I haven't had time to scrapbook this week so you just get another recipe. Hope you enjoy it!

Silly Scared Cameron

Oh my little guy is so adorable! He just learned how to climb up onto the barstools (not fun for me) and LOVES climbing on the stools and then the counter. He just loves being on the stools like all the big boys and Kesley. Today he climbed up and turned around to watch a cartoon on TV. Apparently it was a little scary so he covered his eyes. But he still wanted to watch so he peeked through his fingers. So cute! It was really cute when I first pulled the camera out - he saw me through his fingers and said "cheese". I love this little guy!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful Mother's in my life - especially my mom who does more for me than I can ever thank her for. FYI - these aren't the flowers I got for Mother's Day but these are the new flowers by the front door - I LOVE them!

Spring Break - Day 6 at the Farm

One last Spring Break post - we love the petting zoo at Thanksgiving Point. So, we went the last day of Spring Break. Ed was out of town but my mom came with us - so me, my mom and all 6 little ones went. It was a lot of fun but still a little chilly. It didn't help that Kesley wasn't feeling great and Cameron's hand wasn't healed - so the babies stayed in the stroller. We will have to go again on a warmer day.

Chocolate and Coconut Milk Cake Recipe

I saw this recipe on Studio 5 right before Easter so I thought I would try it when we had all of Ed's family over on Easter. It is really yummy and so moist! On the show, they put toasted slices of coconut on top of the cake but I didn't have that so I put toasted sliced almonds on top. I also baked it in 2 square pans (square just for fun) but they baked theirs in one round pan (I didn't change the recipe except for baking it less - I also only made one frosting recipe and it was plenty to frost the 2-layer cake). Enjoy!

Spring Break - Day 3 at the Aquarium

Spring Break was almost a month ago and I am just now getting around to posting about more of it. Day 1 we went to the Hogle Zoo. Day 2 my friend Carol and her girls came over and we made homemade donuts (recipe to come) - so fun and yummy! Day 3, Ed was able to take part of the day off and come with us to the Living Planet Aquarium. It was fun to see Brecken so excited to see everything and for Gavin to finally want to touch the sting rays. We always love the aquarium and are so excited that they are building a bigger one close to IKEA in Draper. Day 4 I took Cameron to the Burn Center so we didn't plan anything. Day 5 we went to see the movie Rio with a bunch of friends. And Day 6, we went to the petting zoo at Thanksgiving Point (more to come on that).

Cameron's Treadmill Ordeal

I finally got around to scrapbooking Cameron's treadmill ordeal. The info on the pages isn't new but lots of the pictures are - especially the ones of his fingers. They don't look as bad in the pictures as they did in real life - but they are still kind of upsetting (at least to me). So, don't look too closely if you have a weak stomach. Luckily, as I have said before - he is doing great! No skin grafts! He is tough and happy! We go back in 2 weeks to the burn center.

Easter Decorations

A little late (since it is May 1) but here is a simple page of my fun Easter decorations.
