Another BYU Cougar...and more!

Katie got accepted to BYU!!!  She is SO excited and we are too!  Nelson and I both graduated from BYU and Michael was there last year so Katie wanted in on a good thing.  She has been so worried about whether she would get in or not.  BYU is hard to get in to and we know people with really good grades and test scores who have not been accepted so it wasn't something you could just count on.  She applied to a couple of other schools as a back up just in case she didn't get her first choice....but she DID!!  Can you tell how excited we are around here?  It's nice sometimes to get what you want.

I started getting texts and calls from my friends late Friday afternoon asking if she got in or not.  We had both checked her application status already that day (and every other day for the past 3 weeks) and it hadn't changed.  She logged in and there it was...that little word...accepted.  She started screaming and lots of running around, yelling, and victory dancing happened.  Nelson wasn't home so she called him to tell him the news.  I had to catch this on camera...she couldn't hold in the happiness!

 ...more victory dancing...
 ...big smiles...
 ...more dancing...
Congratulations Katie!   We are so proud of the hard work you have done to become a BYU student!  Woo-hoo!
Today was piano festival.  Katie played really well and is on her way to her final gold cup.  I will sure miss her piano playing when she goes off to college.
David played well also and will earn his next gold cup this year also.  Keep up the good work!!
David went on a campout last night with the scouts, came straight home to play in the piano festival, changed clothes in the car, went straight to the church BBall game, came home for a 20 minute lunch and off to his next Orem Rec BBall game.  After 3 hours of sleep last night at the campout he is one tired boy.  We showed up at the church ball game and Nelson got recruited to be the coach since they didn't have one today I guess.  It was a good game even though they lost.  David won his other game, though.

The church ball team, minus camera shy Weston.
Katie has inherited my love of...well...food.  She has been browsing food blogs and baking up a storm.  I am really hoping she gets into vegetables soon or I may have to apply to be a contestant on "The Biggest Loser".  Above are homemade reeses.  We weren't having success dipping the peanut butter part in chocolate so we got impatient and just piped the chocolate onto the tops.  That is my all time favorite flavor combo.
Today she made apple fritters...all by herself...I wasn't even home.  Walking in the door I had to stuff 3 (plus 6) into my mouth.  The smell was too delicious, and they were too.  Thanks Katie!

Kids!

These kids are getting too big!  How do they grow up so fast?  David has been bugging me that his suit was too small for a while so I finally gave in and got him a new one.  For his whole life, he has worn Michael's hand me downs.  Somehow we don't have anything bigger than a size 14 so there was nothing left to give him.  I think he looks awesome!
This is Katie and her date, Thomas Wilkinson, on their way to the sweethearts dance.  For their day date they went power tumbling and Katie was pretty terrified.  She lived through it and has maybe gained some braveness back.  There were 24 kids in their group so eventually I might get copies of those pictures but for now...this is it.  It was a black light dance so they lit up the night.  If you want to hear the scary end (for Katie, funny for the rest of us) of her date, visit her blog post about the whole thing...

Wedding bells!

Newlyweds Eric and Alexa Davis.  We have known the Hubert family since Alexa was 1 1/2 and Katie was 8 months old.  We have done so much together and they are our dear friends.
Greg and Tammy Hubert, me, Gina and Reese Jensen.  We were all in the same ward when our babies were little.  Gina and Reese are from Alaska so we have always felt connected.  They now live in Idaho and came down for the wedding.  It was fun to have a little reunion.
Me and Tammy in front of the Oquirrh Mountain temple.
Tammy, Alexa and me.  What a wonderful day!  It is such a joyous time for us adults when those youth we care so much for go to the temple, how awesome!

This and That

The cute Achievement Days girls in the ward heart attacked us!
Up the flag pole and all over the garage and gutters, too!

Katie and her new baby Tami.  These expensive pieces of equipment look and act so real they warn you not to leave them alone in a car or other places.  I guess maybe people have called the authorities to report neglect or something.  Not Katie, though.  She got an A for her efforts of being a mom for 24 hours.  She slept in the basement so she wouldn't wake the rest of us up all night long.  She said she was so tired and in the night it took FOREVER to feed the baby.  Just wait.  Katie was doing this for part of her Adult Roles class.
