Madelyn's 1st Birthday Party

We had so much fun celebrating Madelyn's first birthday with a small group of friends and family!
Although Madelyn won't remember the day, it is such a great time to remember the last 365 days and how much she has changed.  She has been the perfect addition to our family and balances out Jack in every way possible.  It makes me so excited to think about her many birthdays in the future, although I'm not in hurry!  Time slow down!

I loved decorating with pink & blue & lace & sparkles & flowers galore.  I always try to throw some flowers in during Jack's birthday parties but it just isn't the same when it's for a boy & surrounded by planes or trains :)  Add lots of pictures of Madelyn and it was pretty easy & fun!

She had so much fun exploring her new gifts & being entertained by everyone around.  And of course she ate lots & lots.

We were very excited to see if she would love her smash cake & she had so much fun that she needed a bath afterwards!

After a quick bath, Madelyn got to enjoy something she likes even more than cake...ice cream!

Thank you to all the friends and family who helped celebrate our sweet girl's first birthday!

Madelyn - 12 months!

Size:
You just had your 1 year check-up and weigh 21lbs 9oz (76%) and are 29.5 inches tall (61%).  Your hair has just kept growing & growing and is about 6 inches long.

Sleep:
You have been sleeping great lately…napping & nighttime.  You go to bed about 7:30 and will sleep a good 12 hours.  You are still taking a quick nap in the morning and then about a 2 hour nap in the afternoon.  You still love your wubbanub pacifiers!  You only use them in your crib now, but you have 3 or 4 in there at any given time and love to cuddle with them even if you aren’t sucking.

Activities:
You are definitely active!  You are always going & getting into everything whether it is climbing onto anything you can or trying to escape through the gate to get to the stairs.  You are still crawling, cruising, clapping, and waving.  You are in a little bit of an odd stage since you are not walking but want to do everything a walker can do!  It’s so hard to let you crawl around the yard (also because you try to eat everything), deck, and sidewalk because I’m scared you’re going to scratch up your knees so much!  You love to go into Jack’s room and empty out the books on his bookshelf onto the floor & play with pretty much any of his toys, too!

Food:
You are my little eater!  You eat anything and everything we put in front of you.  I have noticed you are started to get bored with certain foods like turkey so I am trying to change it up as much as possible & give you more foods with flavors & seasonings.  You have still been nursing before sleeping but we should be completely weaning you soon. Your favorites are definitely blueberries & yogurt melts & cheese.  You get SO excited if you see those things so they definitely are given to you at the end of the meal or you won’t eat anything else!

New things:
Your balance is improving & you are standing up more and more.  You still have to hold on to something to stand up but are cruising around.  You had your first road trip to Texas and did great!  You did get a little bit bored at times, but nothing some food couldn’t help.

You are in a general a VERY loud child.  You are constantly yelling when you need or want something (which we often don’t know what you need).  It is your way of communicating but it is LOUD (which can be a problem in public at restaurants, on planes, & in the store!).  You are not necessarily crying.

You have become my trouble shopper.  It’s pretty much impossible to take you through Target without you standing up in the cart (even when you are strapped in) so that had made it challenging to say the least!  I enjoyed it while I could!

You also love copying things we do whether it is talking on the phone, putting on socks, brushing your hair, or making certain sounds.  You definitely take it all in and study what is going on!
