4 months

Very serious...

and fun!
Since Tyler and I were gone over Jack’s 4 month birthday, my mom took Jack to Target in Plano to have his 4 month pictures taken. They are so cute and I can’t wait to share a few with you. He looks like he was so happy & content during the photo shoot…really just the perfect model with his smiles, wide eyes, and cute open mouth.

I tried to do a quick shoot with his 4 month sticker one day after work this week and it didn’t go quite as smoothly. Jack is worn out after daycare and can switch from happy to upset very quickly. I got a few good ones and I have to say this will definitely be the last month for his 3m onesie he’s worn for these photo shoots since he was born. We’ve got a growing boy on our hands!

Sleep:
Your sleep schedule definitely changes depending on if it’s a daycare day or not. When you are at daycare, you tend to take 1 long nap a day (1.5-2 hours) and then a couple of other cat naps (15-20 minutes). I laugh when I get your reports at the end of the day because you will have several naps will literally say 2:15-2:28. You are pretty tired when you get home and often tend to fall asleep in your swing around 6:30 or 7. You could sleep there all night! I normally will wake you up around 9 or 9:30 to feed you, change you, and put you to bed. You have been waking up once during the night. Just recently it has been around 5:00am, but you still throw in a 2:30 or 3:30am every once in a while. After you eat, you will sleep until around 7:30.

Eating:
You are currently eating 6-7oz 5-6 times a day. You had your first bottle of formula this month, but are still on majority breast milk. Your only formula during the day is your bottle before bedtime. While mom was in Hawaii, you were on formula pretty much the whole week and did great. Since I haven’t quite kept up with the amount you are eating now, the bottle of formula at night makes up the difference.

Size:
You were exactly 13 lbs at your 4 month doctor appointment. You have just started to outgrow some of your 3 month clothes. It makes me sad when you wear an outfit for the last time and then it’s headed to the bin, but love that you are growing into your 6 month clothes. You are still in size 1 diapers.

Things you love:
Playing with your mobile and play gym. You have started grabbing at the toys on your gym.

Speaking of grabbing you have to be holding onto something at all times. If you are in your carseat you are constantly grabbing at your blanket or toys. If you are not grabbing something then your hands are normally in your mouth. You love your longhorn pacifier because you can grab onto him and figit with it. You still use your pacifier but often prefer to use your hands instead.

You also love it when we sing to you and you just smile and giggle. Lately “Wheels on the Bus” always makes you smile. You love to talk to us and make noises when you are happy and not so happy.

You still love to “watch” the tv and are now sitting in your bumbo. You have started sitting on the kitchen table in your bumbo while dad works at the end of the day.
When we are playing with you, you always want to “stand.” Whenever I hold you up you straighten your legs and stand tall and look around.

Activities:
Sitting in the bumbo, “watching” tv, mobile, play gym, riding in stroller, sleeping in swing

New things:
There have been a lot of new things this month. You had your first bottle of formula since you were going to be away from mom and dad for a few days. You didn’t notice a difference and took it down like a champ.

You spent your first nights away from mom and dad. First, mom and dad had a work weekend function near Dallas and mom’s parents came to San Antonio to stay with you. You also made a trip to Plano and stayed with both sets of grandparents while mom and dad were on vacation in Hawaii.

You have slept through the night 2 times in a row in San Antonio and 1 night at Grandma Marshall’s house. I’m hoping this will become more consistent.

You went on your first weekend vacation to a “hotel” during Labor Day weekend. It was actually a ranch but you do great in all different surroundings and are very flexible. W also went for your first swim while you were there. At first, you weren’t so sure but eventually relaxed. I think you realized it was just like your bath.

You also started in the nursery at the Pineapple School while mom’s at work and dad’s at school. It was so hard for mom to take you the first day and first week, but you did great and adapted well. You get to do all kinds of activities and hang out with other babies your age. Your report card pretty much always says content and cheerful.  I love to read your daily reports when I pick you up and what activity you enjoyed during the day. You take stroller rides outside, have spa days, play with fruit, sing songs in Spanish, and they read books to you in Spanish to name a few things.

Along with daycare, you got your first cold! You are actually still battling it…it’s stuck around for a couple of weeks and now you have a cough.

You met your great aunts and uncles on the Marshall side (Rick, Lori, Pat, & Daryl) and one of mom’s cousins (Holly).

I still haven’t seen you roll over (from your stomach to back), but they said you have at daycare. I'm excited to see it. Your head and body control are excellent. Every once in a while you’ll still have a bobble, but I can carry you on my hip now and you are able to support yourself and look all around. You still don’t like being on your stomach but you can at least hold yourself up and look around for a while and then get upset when you get too tired to keep holding yourself up and you faceplant.

You also have a hemangioma (a group of blood vessels) above your left eye that has gotten a bit bigger so we are headed to the pediatric plastic surgeon to see what he suggests since it’s started to cover your eye a bit. They said it will go away with time, but we don’t want it to affect your vision. On a positive note, your herniated belly button is getting smaller!

Routine:
We don’t have much of a routine since you go to daycare during the day, but recently you have been waking at 5:00am to eat and then go back to sleep until around 7. You just play in your crib while mom gets ready for work and then I feed you, get you dressed, and we head to daycare. When I pick you up when head home to play until bedtime. If you don’t fall asleep, then I will feed you around 8 so you are asleep by around 8:45. You get a bath every other night.

When we're away, Jack will play

When Tyler and I found out we'd be going to Hawaii for a week we were ecstatic but of course nervous about leaving Jack behind.  It was a once in a lifetime opportunity, but we knew he would only be 4 months old!

Well, we survived and he survived!  It actually might have been a blessing he's so young because it was easier to tell ourselves that he probably wouldn't even notice we were gone (sadly) and he probably doesn't know the difference between minutes and days.

Jack spent half the time with Grandparents Bloomer and half the time at Grandparents Marshall in Plano.  We knew he would be very spoiled and well taken care of which made it so much easier.  Thank goodness for technology because we were able to get text message updates and pictures and videos.  It put our minds at ease while we were away.

Here are a few pictures from the texts we got from the grandparents that show you what Jack was up to.  He had lots of fun!

Thank you so much to both sets of our parents for taking time out of your busy lives to take care of our little guy for a couple of days.  He had so much fun!

A year ago today...

A year ago today I took a pregnancy test ready to see another negative result and call the doctor to schedule an appointment to figure out what was going on with me.  Then...two lines showed up!  That's right...a year ago today I found out I was pregnant.  Wow...it's absolutely crazy to think how life has changed in a year and how he was just a little speck in my stomach a year ago.

God has truly blessed us with such an adorable, loving little boy and I'll never forget that day.  Our lives truly changed that day and we began the next chapter of our lives.

Back from Paradise

We have returned from paradise (aka Hawaii) and it is back to reality...

I'm back to reality with Jack in San Antonio and Tyler's back to reality in Nashville, TN.

We had such a great time and missed Jack like crazy.

Many posts to come this week including pictures from the trip, what Jack's been up to, and Jack's 4 month post!

I'll be dreaming of this place tomorrow when I work...

Shots...and not the fun kind - Part II

Jack had his 4 month check up and shots today.  While we're still over a week away from his 4 month birthday, he has already gone through the torture that is more vaccine shots.

Here he is playing like crazy while we were waiting on the doctor.
He literally did this for about 20 minutes...he's hyper in the mornings.
He has no idea what's about to happen.

The boy is growing and he is weighing in at 13 pounds.  As the nurse said, "You're the size of a butterball turkey."  He's still small but is gaining in the percentile department and is 23 inches long.

This round of shots was definitely harder than the first.  He got real upset real fast, but before we left I was able to calm him down.

Not a happy camper.....

What just happened to me?

Ok. I'm calm now....

I took him to daycare afterwards and was worried about him the whole day becaus last time all he wanted to do was cuddle.  They said he was a bit fussier than normal, but overall still happy.  He fell asleep in the car on the way home and literally cuddled with us the rest of the night and slept, except when I woke him up to put him in his pj's, feed him, and put him in his crib.

Cuddled up with dad.  I think he would have slept like this for hours.

Ranching it in the Hill Country

Tyler and I always talk about our favorite things that Jack does.  There are many, but Tyler often says he loves it when he yawns.  I always say I love it when he does his little, tiny cough.  Well, Friday night Jack developed a bit of a cold and now we get to hear that cough more often than I'd like.  He's been in daycare for two weeks and the sickness has already begun!  Luckily, he was still his lovable & happy self through the snot & sneezes & coughs and he had a great first ranch trip here....

The YO Ranch

We had a great weekend with the WHOLE family (minus Uncle Layne who was in Seattle).  The last couple of years we have done a family dove hunt at the ranch in Vernon for Labor Day.  This year thanks to the distance, heat, & lack of water on the ranch we changed it up a bit.  Last minute, we decided to have a hill country weekend.  We stayed at the YO Ranch Friday & Saturday night and had lots of fun with the family.  It was great place to stay with all kinds of exotic animals (giraffes!!) and a great pool.  It wasn't too crowded there this weekend so we felt like we had the whole ranch to ourselves.

Loved the baby Longhorns...

 and dad loved this goat!

and with Uncle Jeff.

Hook 'Em!

This is what Jack did while we all ate.

Saturday we went to the river and grabbed some bbq in Hunt.  It's always fun to see where Tyler went to camp growing up and we drove by Rio Vista and showed Jack where he might be going to camp one of these days.  Afterwards, we headed back to the pool for Jack's first official swim!  It was pretty much the cutest thing ever.  He was hesitant at first, but seemed to enjoy it.  I'll upload a video of it soon.

 Getting ready with Aunt Taylor

Not sure about what's about to happen...

 Fussy at first...

then he started to like it

 Cutie!

Saturday night we had a great evening at the rodeo & dance at Crider's.  Tyler and I have been to Crider's each summer since we moved to San Antonio and we love it.  I can't wait to take Jack there some day and enjoy it with him (Grandma Marshall stayed at the ranch and babysat).

 Dinner before heading to Crider's

Love this place!

Sunday after breakfast, we packed up and headed to Fredericksburg for lunch on the patio at Hondo's and a little bit of shopping.

Everyone saying goodbye to Jake & Jack

It was Jack's first real trip staying somewhere besides the grandparents' house or the lakehouse and we had to pack SO MUCH but we survived and had so much fun.  We look forward to many more Labor Day weekends with the family.
