8 months

We've reached the stage of official bedhead...Jack's hair is getting long enough that I walk in in the mornings and it is all over the place.  He's changed so much over the last month and had so many firsts.  The time is flying by and we love him more and more each day.  I'm not sure that his cheeks could get any puffier and cuter, but alas the hematologist has him on steriods and said to expect them to keep expanding.

Size: You currently weigh a little more than 18 pounds. I’m definitely getting more of a work out carrying you around. It’s weird to think you’ve almost tripled in size since you were born! You are currently in size 3 diapers and wearing size 6-9 month clothing. We have put away some of your 6 month clothes but you are still fitting into a couple of outfits. It won’t be long!

Sleep: Your sleep patterns have been off this month since you have been sick a couple of times (During those sick times you’ve been waking up 2-3 times per night and it takes a while to get you back on schedule). During normal nights you go to sleep around 7:30pm and sleep anywhere from 7-8am. You still wake up once a night to eat, but the times have really been varying…sometimes it’s 3am and others it’s 6am. We are working on cutting out this feeding so you can sleep through the entire night!

The biggest difference in your sleeping is that you love to roll over and sleep on your stomach. This is a very recent development and I never thought I’d see the day!

Activities: Once again, you still love your jumparoo. You can entertain yourself forever in that thing and love to see what all is going on around the room. You have also spent a lot of time sitting up on the floor and playing with all your new toys. We currently have them stored in a plastic bin and you love to put the pieces in the bin and then take them out and do it over and over again. You like anything that lights up or makes noise, but you also love small pieces that you can feel different textures on.

We have started putting on Baby Einstein videos every once in a while and it is crazy how they capture your attention and you love to watch what is going on and listen to the music. You can be getting fussy and bored playing on the ground and I turn on a video and your just stop and watch and listen.

Food: This month you have starting eating solids at daycare around lunch time. We try to make sure you have solids at least 2-3 times per day. You normally have a fruit & cereal in the morning (depending on if mom is running late), a vegetable at lunch, and fruit at night. You have tried meats, but so far are not a fan. You have eaten all kinds of foods and a lot of combination foods, but bananas are still your favorites.

You eat 7-8oz about 4-5 times per day and are still nursing and taking formula, when needed. You can also feed yourself your bottles which makes you look so old (and mom a little bit sad).

Showing off your teeth!

New things: You now have your 2 bottom front teeth! You are definitely still teething! You drool and love to chew on everything. Luckily, we have stocked you with all kinds of teething toys at home & at daycare. You seem to love the raspberry pacifier like thing to chew on and really anything you can put in your mouth, including your pacifier or your hand.
There they are!
You have also started rolling from your back to your stomach and stomach to back. I didn’t know if you would ever roll, but one night you were upset in your crib and I picked up the monitor and you were pushed up on your stomach. I couldn’t believe that you had gotten yourself there, but you now love to roll to your side and then to your stomach to sleep.

You had your first Christmas and got so many great toys from everyone. You were able to celebrate Christmas with all sides of your family throughout the different celebrations spread out over 3 days. Obviously your Christmas day was not the best since you were sick, but it was definitely memorable and we’ll never forget it.

You also had your first trips to the aquarium and to the zoo. You loved looking at all the fish and animals…and all the little kids around you. I think they capture your attention more than the animals!

You took your first trip to the ER and had your first severe fever twice this month! You have kept us busy worrying about you. You also took a trip to the pediatric ophthalmologist to check on your eye and he currently has you wearing a patch on your right eye for 1 hour a day to strengthen the left eye (it has gotten weak due to the blocked vision of your hemangioma). You also visited the hematologist who is treating your hemongioma with medicine. You are currently on two medications and Pepcid to help your stomach with the medicines.

You are still so curious. When I have you on the changing table you are constantly reaching and grabbing for everything. Whether diaper cream, lotion, or diapers, you want to put it all in your mouth and often end up throwing it on the ground. You do not like when mom has to put you on your back to get you dressed because you want to sit up and see everything that is going on…buttoning your pants is torture for you.

You are still not crawling, but you’re getting close. You are able to get on all fours and push, but you just push yourself backwards. You love to pull up on our fingers and stand up. Really, I think you could stand up all the time if you only could on your own. When I try to sit you down, you just arch that back as hard as possible.

You have started sitting in the high chair at restaurants and do great. As long as you have a toy (and are not close to anything on the table), you will just sit there and be content. Dad and I love enjoying meals with you as a family of 3.

We've got 2 teeth & a roller

Well...little man officially has not 1, but 2 bottom teeth!

I got so excited when I felt the first tooth under the skin early last week...although I'm not a fan of the fussiness that goes along with it.  It had broken through by the end of the week and then the other one appeared early this week.  I wish I had a picture, but he barely lets me see them!

The past week was hectic, to say the least.  I had my quarterly POA meeting in Chicago from Monday to Wednesday so Tyler was on his own with Jack.  He just started his radiology rotation and I got a text from him after I landed in Chicago saying that daycare had called and Jack had a 102 temp and wouldn't eat.  I felt so helpless being so far away and when I talked to Tyler I could hear him wimpering in the background and it broke my heart.

Luckily Taylor was able to come in from Austin to take care of him Tuesday so Tyler could get back to work.  He did good and Tyler took him to daycare Wednesday only to get another call from daycare saying the same thing. I was flying home Wednesday and landed at 5:40 while Tyler had a flight to an interview leaving at 2:30.  We were passing each other in the air so Taylor was able to head in from Austin once again until I got home.  Thank you, Taylor!

Tyler took him to the pediatrician Monday after he picked him up and the doc said it was viral so not much we could do other than let him rest & tylenol for the fever.  Jack's also had really rosey cheeks lately (around christmas I told him he was trying to be like Santa), but when he got the temperature they flaired up even more so the pediatrician treated it, as well.

Jack's been to 4 doctor's appointments in the last two weeks (and another tomorrow) so our kitchen counter currently looks like a pharmacy.  Most of the appointments have been about the hemangioma on his eye and how it is affecting his vision (more on that later).

Besides the new teeth and being sick, Jack has FINALLY decided he wants to roll from his back to his stomach and sleep on his stomach, too.  We didn't know if we would see the day, but he is really wanting to be on the move.  As of now, he's still not quite getting anywhere besides rolling but it might not be long.  It's very foreign to me to look at the monitor and see him sleeping on his stomach...it really freaked me out the first time!

I'm taking him back to daycare in the morning and hoping that we don't get another phone call about a sick boy!  I'm ready to get back in the normal routine!

Here's him playing in his bath last night.  Love those baby blues!

Jack meets...

Every holiday season when Tyler and I return to Plano for almost 2 weeks it sounds like such a long time and that we'll get to do all kinds of things and see all our friends...and it always FLIES by.  We didn't get to see many of our friends on our trip home that we had wanted to and that is a bummer!  With Jack now it made it all a bit more complicated and we were constantly on the move.

I was able to plan ahead with a few of my girlfriends and we got a night on the calendar for dinner and catch up.  Not everyone was in town, but it was great to see everyone that was.  Allyson & Colt also came in from Tyler and brought their girls, Rylee and Molly.  Molly is about 3 months younger than Jack so it was great to finally meet her!

Jack met Molly for the first time.  He loves touching everyone's faces and I guess babies are no exception.  I think he loved her...

Holly hosted us at her apartment and cooked dinner!  She was such a great host and dinner was delicious!  Thank you Holly!

 Lucky Jack!

Love yall!  We had so much fun & miss yall!

Christmas Day

Tyler and I alternate where we stay Christmas Eve and this year we stayed at the Bloomer household.  It was another long night with Jack so we didn't get up quite as early as we had hoped.

Jack was pretty miserable Christmas morning.  He had a fever and we stripped him down to just his diaper.  I tried to open a few of his presents with him, but all he would do was a constant wimper or cry...he just wanted to be cuddled.  He spent most of the morning cuddled on dad while we opened presents & ate brunch.  Not quite what I had pictured for Jack's Christmas morning, but you never know what's in store and it's a Christmas we'll never forget!

Here's a video of him Christmas morning.  He looks so pitiful!

After we opened presents, ate breakfast, and Jack took a nap for a while we reevaluated what we wanted to do.  He still had a fever so we called around to see if any urgent care places were open, which they were not.  Ty decided to take Jack to the ER at Children's Medical in Plano.  Tyler and Jack were able to see a doctor very quickly and get Jackchecked out, dosed for Advil, and on an antibiotic.  They said he had the beginnings of an ear infection, but he had also had alot of congestion the previous few days, and he is teething, too so it might have been a combination of everything!

We headed to my parents house during the afternoon and Jack already seemed to be feeling better slowly.  By a couple of hours later he was like a new baby and was almost back to his happy self.

Showing off his photo album from grandma

He had lots of fun playing while we opened presents and was happy enough to open a few presents himself.  He went to sleep peacefully and we had a delicious steak dinner with the family.

The grandparents definitely spoiled Jack with gifts this year, but I had fun opening them all!  We are so blessed to spend Christmas with family and I cannot wait to see Christmas through Jack's eyes in the years to come.  Having a child changes everything and makes it so much fun!

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve day we had our Christmas celebration with the Bloomer clan.  We headed to Benihana's for lunch and then onto the Bloomer's house for our gift exchange and a little bit of bingo.  We missed Tyler's cousins Diana and Brad who were back in Kansas City with their newly adopted little girl.

While we were at Benihana's Jack was just not himself and I could feel that he had a bit of a fever.  Poor kid slept alot more than normal and was very subdued...but he did get to see some of the action during lunch before he fell asleep.
(He was very tired because he woke up in the middle of the night and literally wailed for 2 hours...like inconsolable and did not want to eat.  Ty and I tried everything and I felt so helpless!)

 Love my boys

Jack took a good nap during the afternoon and then we headed to the children's five o'clock service at Christ United Methodist in Plano.  We have gone to this service a few times in the past even though we didn't have kids so we were excited to take Jack.  All the kids take an ornament up to the front of church and put it on the tree during the service and I got a bit teary eyed seeing Tyler walk Jack up to the front.

My dad and brother were at the Cowboys game Christmas Eve day, but my mom and Nina were able to join us for church that evening and some games at the Bloomer's afterwards.

Iphone pic taken by Taylor but you can kinda see Jack & Ty

He's ready for Santa!

A Marshall Christmas

Our first Christmas family celebration was Marshall Christmas at Uncle Rick and Aunt Lori's house in Prosper on the day before Christmas Eve. We didn't get to see this side of the family during Thanksgiving so it was so great to catch up with all the aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandmas.  My cousin Lori and her boyfriend Parker & my Aunt Pat and Uncle Daryl were all in town from Boston.

Jack is highly entertained by cups these days

Jack didn't stay dressed up for long.  He went quickly to pjs.

Holly's husband, Justin, is currently deployed in Afghanistan.  We missed him dearly and were thinking about him!

Jack was a trooper and the only time he slept was a quick cat nap while Mima was holding him
