Happy, happy 30th birthday to the best dad & husband...we are so lucky to have you in our lives.
You work so hard everyday and you deserve a wonderful & relaxing birthday.
We love you so much!
We celebrated when Tyler got home from work tonight with dinner, confetti cupcakes, & a game of throw between Jack & Tyler in the front yard (it's still a work in progress).
Happy 30th Birthday, Tyler!
I cannot believe how fast time has flown...it feels like just yesterday I was leaving a birthday card on your car dash for your 18th. I love growing old with you!
Jack and I have ventured to the downtown Nashville library the last couple of weeks for storytime. They have a great theater room with puppets, music, etc so it keeps his attention (& he loves to watch the other kids).
I let him roam the children's floor of the library afterwards and it was quite entertaining.
I promise he sounds louder on the video than it was in real life.
I figured his dad has spent more time in the library than anyone I know so he should see what it is like....
Jack went to the pediatrician for his 15 month check up and is looking great.
He only needed one shot that the doc said could wait until 18 months so there weren't too many tears shed (just a few when the doctor wanted to look in his ears).
I can't believe that it has been 3 months since we saw a pediatrician...such a great feeling.
I feel like we lived at the doctor his first year of life.
Between the tubes & no daycare we have had a healthy and happy boy.
He is walking all over the place (falling on his booty & hands quite often), eating lots of foods, and officially has no more bottles. We're going cold turkey.
He LOVES his brother Jake & climbing & poking him, playing with & reading his books, and attempting to climb onto & over any object possible. He still loves his blankies and cannot sleep without one.
His favorite foods at the moment are bananas & peaches.
A storm rolled through town the other night when Tyler was at the hospital until 5am. It hadn't started raining yet, but the wind was picking up and as I was watching tv the power went out...pitch black.
Like any normal person who knows their husband can't answer his phone, I called my parents (haha). It's scary when everything goes black and you're home alone! It was also weird to not be able to look at the monitor to check on Jack.
I stepped outside to see who else didn't have power and I heard a snap and crack right as I reached the porch. One of the branches from a big tree in the front yard had gone down.
I headed to bed with the power out and it eventually came on around 1am.
Tyler had a few hours off one afternoon and headed out to work on the clean up. We didn't even have a tree in our yard in San Antonio so this is all new to us! Thanks to a neighbor's tool, we finally got it fixed up.
I had to document the occasion because seeing Tyler climbing in our tree was too funny...and Jack had fun watching him.
There is just something about a toddling toddler learning to walk. Until earlier this week Jack still preferred crawling and would only take a couple of steps at a time. Now he's walking all over the place. It's so cute (and nerve-racking) to watch. His booty has got to be sore from falling on it all the time and I keep saying we need to get him wristgaurds from how much he catches himself in front.
Here's a video from yesterday...he even golfs & walks.
We are loving Nashville so far & it's great to explore a new city, new restaurants, & new experiences.
We had some work done on the house that looks great and I can't wait to share pictures. We've been to the Franklin Farmer's Market, storytime at the downtown library, lots of Gymboree classes, the Nashville zoo, and we finally had Jack's 1 year pictures taken & family pictures. We did a lot of cheering for the USA, too!
USA, USA...

Jack and I (and tyler when he's not working) have also ventured up to Ellington Ag Center right here in the Crieve Hall neighborhood. It is a gorgeous area (where we took our family pics) & has horse stables where the Nashville police horses stay.
Oh...and then there was the day when Tyler's car wouldn't start at 6:30 in the morning so we had to grab Jack out of bed to take him to the hospital & after I picked him up later in the day we got in a wreck on the way home...the poor tahoe. It was not our fault so no expense there, but a lot of inconvinience. Jack was in the back seat (we still have him facing backwards thank goodness!) & he didn't make a peep. The other guy's car had to be towed away.
In more news, Jack has been exploring and finding new favorite things to do around the house. Whenever it gets quiet I know something's going on.
Mother of the year, right here when I found this scene....
He was putting the trash into the toilet & then taking it out...normally the toilets are ALWAYS shut
His new favorite way to eat
He loves to climb back and forth over Jake now
Jack loves exploring the cabinets & found my wooden salad bowls. Tyler was asleep & I came into the room to find this. He was just lining them up and then stacking them over and over.
It FINALLY happened! Jack took his first steps...and we got it all on camera.
Tyler got home at a normal hour yesterday and after dinner Jack starting going from sitting to standing up on his own from the floor (normally he pulls up on something or steadies himself on an object when he stands).
It was new to see so we grabbed the video camera and he did it for us a few times. I went back to washing the dishes & then this happened....
I love Tyler's reaction...he's so serious since I'm not in the room.
He has taken a few spills, but was back at it this morning and took the most steps I've seen, yet (while brushing his teeth, too).
I think he'll be crawling everywhere for a while longer because he definitely gets there quicker, but he's heading in the right direction.
I knew he wanted to be just like his mom and walk at 14 months :)
We are high school sweethearts who went to rival colleges (University of Texas for me & Texas A&M for Tyler). We married on November 11, 2006 and were blessed with our first child, Jackson Lee, on May 20, 2011. Our little girl, Madelyn, was born on July 30, 2013. After living all over Texas we are on a new adventure in the great city of Nashville, TN while Tyler completes his residency at Vanderbilt.
I love to blog as a way to keep our family & friends up to date as Jack & Madelyn grow. I also share my adventures of making a new house our home while I adjust to being a new stay at home mom & a wife to an ever busy physician resident in a new town.
