They recognize that by honouring cultural food traditions they are able to build trust and connect with our clients.In a recent Women’s Wellness program, space was made for participants to share and reflect via the module “Food & Culture: Keeping Traditions Alive”. Participants were invited to share cultural ingredients and teach recipes to the group. A dietetic intern created a map of breakfast foods shared by participants. Participants thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to teach and learn from one another.Using food to foster cultural connections helps nourish our bodies and our minds, and strengthens our sense of community.Want to know more about the programs and services our dietitians offer? 🥘💟🥬Food is connection, culture and comfort—and it's a pathway to flourishing. Our Newcomers Cooking Together (NCT): Heart Health edition invites newcomers to come together and create a heart-healthy meal. Each class features recipes that use ingredients proven to help improve cholesterol and blood pressure levels. Participants are encouraged to try heart-healthy dishes from around the world, like the flavour-filled "Turmeric Curry with Chickpeas and Cauliflower", and delicious "Peanut Soba Noodles with Tofu".Every day our Access Alliance dietitians support our clients to connect, create, and flourish with great programming like NCT. Those working with youth in Toronto’s east end: we see you.We understand resources are limited and needs are not. We know pinpointing how to best address gaps in programs and services can feel out of reach. We get that the thought of organizing focus groups and gathering data to inform your work can feel like an overwhelming task.With this in mind, we’d like to share the findings from our recent Youth Service Needs Assessment. This report can help guide you to more effectively support the health and well-being of your young clients.Based on consultations with east-end youth and service providers, the report captures the youth’s experiences, concerns, and needs. It also looks at the strengths and limitations of existing youth programs and services, and recommends how we can best address critical gaps.
