My Windowsill Garden

Every week on Sunday evening when we have to commute back to Beaumont, a feeling of depression weighs on my soul. I despise that God-forsaken place with every fiber of my being, but there is a silver lining...my windowsill garden. I've mentioned before that in the fall, the Texas weather isn't very fall-like. It is becoming a little more chilly in the evenings, but remains in the low 80's or high 70's during the day. Although I miss the lovely fall colors and weather in Utah, the weather here makes for good gardening. I planted a cherry tomato plant and a basil plant both of which have doubled in size in just three weeks. I also planted many spices: rosemary, oregano, tarragon, and more basil. Lucy has managed to eat any tarragon that has sprouted up. The oregano and the rosemary are slow, but coming. The basil is growing like a chia pet!!! CH-CH-CH-CHIA!!! We're going to have basil coming out of our ears, but I don't mind. We can dry it, eat it fresh, and give some to neighbors, etc. Who doesn't like basil? I'm definitely going to have to transplant them to different pots but, they are thriving. Hooray!
There really is something about watching things grow that brings you closer to God. Even though scientists and doctors have figured out many ways to manipulate nature, they have yet to truly create a living, growing organism from scratch. What a miracle. Isn't is amazing how seeds hold life within them until the circumstances are just right. I feel that way about our baby too. How is it that there is a 2.5" tall person growing inside me? These are just two of the many reasons why I know there is a God.

What a Cushy Job!

So a week or two ago, Matt's company paid him to play softball all day for charity. Matt's dream come true! In the days leading up to the tournament, Matt would often stare off into the distance with a slight smile on his face. I'd ask him what he was smiling about and he'd say, "Oh, I'm just really excited for the tournament!" He's like a little kid waiting for Santa on Christmas Eve!

The long awaited day of the tournament finally came. As he met up with his coworkers and other team members, he asked one of them if there was a "home run rule" i.e. you can only get so many home runs during a game w/o getting penalized or something. He looked at him like he was joking and said, "I don't know" with a "like anyone is gonna hit one" tone in his voice. Matt felt kinda stupid, but after hitting two home runs in the first game, it became apparent to his team member why Matt had asked that question. Although he denies it, he was grinning from ear to ear as he crossed home plate. Although I deny it, I was yelling "That's my husband!!!" What a heart throb he is!
