NOT what I wanted to hear

I went to pick Megan up from "school" today, and the first words out of her teacher's mouth were, "We need to talk." Uh-oh. The next umpteen years of school previewed before my eyes. She was cranky, refused to take a nap, sassy, and just plain out of control. She's been like that lately at home, too. I don't know if it's teeth (5 coming in), potty training, terrible 2's and/or all of the above. SO glad I don't have pictures to post with this. (On a side note, my camera is on backorder.) Sorry teachers...

75% potty trained?

I'm thinking that maybe she is about 75% potty trained. Thanks to Gran...she helped us crack down on her this week. We've been leaving the house for a few hours at a time with no pull-up/diaper on - just panties! We went to a funeral last night, and people wanted to hold her, so I kept saying, "Hold at your own risk...she's got panties on." Thankfully she didn't pee-pee on anyone. She also went to storytime and the mall today in panties. She told me at least 3 times that she needed to go. Whoo hoo! I am pleasantly surprised how nice people are when I explain the urgent need for a potty. I've even been led back to the employee only bathroom a few times. No one has ever hestitated, and I really appreciate it. Course they have a vested interest...what business person wants pee-pee on the floor of the store?

We're still working on it...especially at night time.

Walmart made me do it!

To all of my scrapbooking friends, pick up your jaws...I bought a CRICUT!!! It's Walmart's fault, really. They had them on sale so cheap on Black Friday - with a bonus cartridge. I couldn't help myself. And to make matters worse, I've become an eBay addict, bidding on cartridges, mats and blades. Sickening, huh? I won two cartridge auctions yesterday, and thought that was the end, but then I saw the Michael's ad today and they have the cartridges on sale this week...Daddy says I have to get more jobs or quit buying Cricut stuff. I'll let ya know what I decide to do!

Aunt Joan's house

Last night we went to Aunt Joan's house for a visit. My cousins were in town for the weekend, so we got double the family for the visit! Aunt Joan taught Megan how to go down the stairs on her bum, which was a hit! That's all Megan wanted to do for the rest of the night...up the stairs, down the stairs, etc. She also had a blast with Addy (5) and Calvin (3). They played upstairs with the toys and got along very well. Megan learned quite a bit from Addy and even held a tea party for Daddy. "Do you want some more?" "Drink it, Daddy!" We had no idea she even knew what a tea party was. We've invited Addy back for a visit to teach Megan other cool new things.
(Thank you, Gran, for letting me borrow your camera! I ordered a new one and it should be here this week...)

"G" Family Thanksgiving

Aunt Kelly made a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner for our entire family tonight. It was traditional and delicious! She amazes me...she is so organized and thorough. I especially loved her list next to the stove in the kitchen. It had the menu and the time she was supposed to cook it next to it! What organization! She made Martha Stewart look bad today!
Megan was so excited to visit "the cousins" and enjoyed running around the house like a crazy nut all night long. The kids had indian headresses and made placemats - the only time we had them all together at once! She cried when we left because she had to leave her cousins.
Thank you, Geri (Kelly's mom), for letting me borrow your camera!!! :)

Thanksgiving Heartbreak

On the way to Thanksgiving Dinner, we stopped by the lot to check on the progress of our house. Lookin' good! However, the picture to the right is the last picture snapped with my 3 week old camera...I was running back to the car, because it was cold and sleeting, and I fell!!! I fell head first, camera first, into the ground and broke my brand new camera!!!!!!!! It won't even turn on! I am just sick about it. Just sick. I had to keep myself together for the dinner and evening with family, but believe me, the tears will be flowing tonight. We're checking into coverage and replacement....UGH, I am such an idiot sometimes!

Fingerpainting

We took advantage of the last summer/November day and had a fingerpainting session outside! As you can see, it turned into a body painting session. She was very proud of her "art" and Daddy put the paintings in the "gallery" (garage). She was most proud of her "aquareene" hands...she made those all by herself.

Shopping with Miss Independent

"No Mommy, I carry the basket! I need some cute cups."
"Mommy...Ina' bicycle for Christmas. This one...no, this one...no, this one. Green 'un."
"No Mommy, I carry Pull-ups. (Grabs the box of 72 count...) Is too heavy you do it."
"BIG GURL POTTY...husssssle Mom"

Playgroup as hosted by Grandma

Grandma hosted playgroup at her house for us today! As only Grandma can, she went ALL out for us. Normally, we meet at a house and just let the kids play. Grandma baked mini-pumpkin pies for each kid, had Thanksgiving coloring sheets, Thanksgiving decorations and Thankful bags for each kid. Fun, fun, fun! Thank you, Grandma!

Things to do while waiting for Megan to pee or poop

Sometimes she can take forever! I feel like I spend half the day in this room, so I've started multi-tasking.
1) clean the bathroom
2) make a list of things to do
3) sing songs - particularly the state song
4) make sock puppets and beg Megan to go in a cute voice
5) sort laundry
6) read books
7) cross off things from list of things to do
8) read a magazine
9) make menus and grocery lists
10) rest my eyelids
11) update Christmas list
12) ABC's and 1-2-3's
13) do my hair/brush my teeth
I've come close to bringing the laptop and cell phone in there to work, but it hasn't quite come to that yet.

Smell something spoiled rotten?

Megan said to Grandma the other day, "I go to Grandma's house!" I've heard all of my life how I learned at a very young age to pack my overnight bag when we would go to Granna's house; perhaps the apple doesn't fall far from the tree?

Grandma came over after work to pick her up, and as Daddy walked out to put the car seat in Grandma's car, Megan said, "No no no no no Daddy! You stay here!" It was HER night! And she had so much fun. She colored, ate dinner, crawled all over Scott, sang the clean up song while he cleaned his room, played and played some more.

Sometimes I say some of the stupidest things to my parents. Like who do I think they are? Last night I said two of the dumbest so far. To my dad, father of five, "Do you know how time consuming potty training is?" (Duh!) And also to my dad, when I called at 10:30 p.m., "Did I wake Megan?" Uh yeah right! She was still awake! I knew better than that!

Props to Winkflash

So often I'm irritated with shopping experiences lately that I thought I'd share a great experience I had with www.winkflash.com. I normally print all my pictures for scrapbooking with my Epson Picturemate - and LOVE IT - but a coupon changes things!

Winkflash sent a coupon code via email for 50 free pictures, with $.99 flat rate shipping. I carefully chose, and my total came to $1.59 for 55 pictures. I ordered them on Thursday; they came today. AND they look great!!!! The quality of the pictures is the best I've seen from a developing company. I consider myself a semi-pro at ordering pictures; Walmart = blah, Costco = blah, Walgreens = no thanks, and Snapfish = high shipping.

Although the coupon code has expired, they've got great regular prices of $.12 a picture with $.99 flat rate shipping (no matter how many you order). Did I mention the pictures look great?

Potty Girl!

This is the 500th post on the Adventures of Megan! Thanks to all who read this mess...you're what keeps me going!

Well, she's not necessarily potty trained, per se, but she does go potty at least 10-15 times a day, will tell us when she needs to go, and has been out of the house in panties instead of a diaper or Pull-ups. Nighttime and afternoon are the hardest times to stay dry. The times between 11-2 p.m. (while not napping) are full of distractions. She has about 2-4 accidents during that time frame for some reason. Playing, Barney, lunch, etc, are all more important than potty time. Other than that, she's doing spectacular!!!!! Her potty charts are full of stickers...we still have a long way to go.

Cott Cott is the greatest!!!!

Can you tell from this picture that Megan worships the ground Uncle Cott Cott walks on? It's true!

We are so proud of Uncle Scott. He took second place at a very difficult tournament yesterday. He has improved so much in the off season...and he was pretty darn good last season! Megan likes to talk about watching wrestling, but she isn't so fond of it while Grandma, Mommy, and everyone else is screaming their heads off! Poor Daddy has to hold her away from the rest of us.

End of Week 1

And at the end of week 1, Mommy and Daddy are able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. She is now "holding it" for about 2 hours at a time. This morning she wore the same pair of dry panties for 3 hours (and went 2 times!). She is also able to tell us when she needs to go. We were on our way to Walmart this morning, and all of a sudden I heard, "Pee-pee Mommy!" There's nothing more frightening to me than having to take her potty at Walmart, so I called Grandma to see if we could borrow her work potty (we were VERY close to her work). We did what I call the "potty hustle", talked about holding it and made it to Grandma holding the door open for us. Whew...she went and she was still dry! She still has accidents, but nothing like the first few days. In fact, she only had 3 all day today!! I could get a whole lot more pee-pee and poop out of her if Uncle Scotty could live with us 24/7. She'll do anything to get to tell him about her pee and poop. Poor Uncle Scotty...

Fall art

Megan and I spent some quality time together today. After our marathon trip to Wal-mart, umpteen times to the potty and various other activities, we got out the "goo" and paper for some fall art. We "gooed" leaves to acorns and such. Then she colored them with aquamarine. Of course they are SO beautiful!

Just shakin' my head...

Last week, Megan made a tree painting at school. She showed Papa, and he asked her what was on the back. Somehow, I'll never know, it turned into the following response - and if that wasn't enough, they added a new word to it.

Wrestling season, Day 1

We went to the tri tonight, and oh, wrestling season is here again! The team looked great, and wow...what a difference the coaching staff makes! I will elaborate on that some other time. Megan got to spend time with Uncle Scott and the team. On a PT side note, she went to the big girl potty 3 times, on her own, and even kept her Pull-up dry for the entire night! Of course, she had to tell Uncle Scotty about her pee-pee excitement...well, Uncle Scotty was with the team and really couldn't come down to talk to her - breakdown! Finally, I caught him at a lull, and he came down so she could tell him. (uh, hope his coach isn't reading this). Anyway, Scott is already 2-0 for the season. Feel free to watch his match!

Megan enjoyed cheering for him (she was doing the indian noise with her indian headdress ponytail )and some of the other wrestlers, too. But she didn't care for Grandma's cheering and whistling too much. She said, "Too loud. Cover ears."

We have a foundation!

Megan and Daddy went to check on the house yesterday, and the rumor was true - we have "concrete" (as Megan calls it). It won't be long...

Tomorrow, tomorrow...can't wait 'til tomorrow

Tomorrow Megan goes to school, which is why most of you think I can't wait until tomorrow, but there's something else...it's Uncle Cott Cott's first wrestling match of the season. I am SO excited!!! I've got my camera charged, 8GB card cleared, Grandpa's camera charged, Meg's cheerleader outfit laid out, my wrestling shirt clean...we're ready to roll! Megan has been preparing for tomorrow by watching Cott Cott's scrimmage match, on Grandma's blog, over and over and over and over again. Surprisingly enough she remembers several wrestling terms and cheers from last year. Of course I'd love for Cott Cott to do well this year (no pressure), but I'm more interested in him enjoying his senior year of wrestling.

Interesting Excuse

Megan was in playing on her bed and had an accident.

Mommy: Oh Megan, why did you pee-pee on your bed?

Megan: Because God made pee-pee.

Mommy: Hmmm....

OFF the charts!

Megan went potty so many times yesterday that we ran out of room for stickers. As Papa so correctly *and sweetly* pointed out last night, I was a litte intense with her yesterday. I probably asked her 1999 times if she needed to go. That's why today I'm taking a deep breath and relaxing about it. We went shopping, in a Pull-up, and she told me twice that she needed to go! I about fell over! She's gone several times at home, on her own, too.
And in self-defense to my critics out there, I PROMISE this potty training was NOT my idea. I didn't want to potty train until like kindergarten, but she's been pushing the issue to go "big girl potty". It was a game for like 3-4 months, so I decided to try to see if she was ready. If you know me one bit, you know I've analyzed and overanalyzed and researched and thought and thought and thought about it until near panic attack. I'm going to see how it goes for the next 2-3 days and then "decide" whether or not we should stop and do this a few months from now. Thanks for the input!

When Megan pulls up her pants...

Mommy: Let me help you pull up your panties and pants.
Megan: No, Mom. My do it. No help me. See, I do it.
Mommy: They're not up all the way...let me help you.
Megan: My do it!!! Go away, Mom.
(actual, word-for-word conversation this morning)

Something I probably should not have

We are doing a camera switch with Grandpa, so Daddy was in charge of getting a new camera card. Drumroll...Daddy got me an 8 GB memory card!!!!!! I can now take and store 2247 pictures on my camera!!!!!!!!! Holy moly. I'd better get started...

Is there such thing...

as a professional potty-trainer? If so, I'm hiring one! :)

PT Update

Well, we're hanging in there...man, this is a lot of work! We ask her about 50 times a day if she has to go. Sometimes it's yes; other times it's no and then she'll pee on the floor 30 seconds after she's asked. When she does tell us that she has to go, we RUN because usually it's RIGHT when she has to go. I thought 6 pairs of panties would be enough to get us through a day - wrong. I had to hit my Santa stocking stash and open another package...it's hard to justify doing a load of just panties!

Future Olympian?

This is what happens when Megan has too much cake and Sprite.

60th Anniversary Party

Tonight we helped celebrate Daddy's grandma and grandpa's 60th anniversary. It was a nice gathering of family and friends at a restaurant. We met family members that we didn't even know about, and got to hear interesting family stories. It's so hard to mingle with people now that we have Megan, the Texas Tornado to follow around. She was under the impression that tonight's festivities were just an excuse to run around like a wild child with her cousins. She bonked her head numerous times, ate unknown objects off of the floor and tackled unsuspecting cousins. Fun was had by all!

House update

We stopped by our dirt/house tonight on the way to the party and this is it. No foundation yet, but we heard a rumor that it will be poured on Monday or Tuesday. The new salesperson (yep, got rid of that lady) said we're about 80 days out. That's a long time! :)

Ole' switch-a-roo

I noticed a tear on "Little's" body yesterday, so I decided to try the ole' switch-a-roo. Gran was able to find an identical Little, so I just handed the clean one to Megan and told her that Little had taken a very good bath. It worked! Daddy and I had NO idea just how dirty Little was...yikes! I'm definitely keeping the old Little around for the memories...

Day 1 Progress Report

Well, we made it through the first day of potty training...and I'm not too stressed out! I do feel like I should just move into the bathroom though. Check out her chart! She pottied 7 times (we missed a sticker for the trip at the restaurant) and only had 4 accidents. Whoo hoo! We even had poop on the first day! She was very excited about that time. She even got to call Grandma about it. We appreciate all of the enthusiasm from friends and family...we know it's got to be embarrassing to cheer for her on the phone without a reference point for those around you! Papa has been very supportive and sweet to Meg today...she wants him to come cheer for her too. He's been wonderful to come stand at the bathroom door and give encouragement.
Stickers and the potty book have also really helped us out today. Megan sits and reads the potty book while she waits for whatever is going to happen to happen. I read it to her the first few times, and then she decided she could read it to me. She gives a pretty accurate version of the book.
Cross your fingers for tomorrow...

Potty Training, day 1

Well folks, I've stalled as long as I can...today is the first day of panties and hard core potty training. Daddy is home from work today, and is home this weekend, so we're tag teaming her! She carefully selected Elmo panties and is very excited to be a "big gurl"...we'll see how this goes.

Back to the real world

Megan and I are back home. We miss Granna and Double G! Grandpa. so sweetly, flew to Brownsville, worked and then drove back with us. He was SUCH a great help!

Meg went to school yesterday, and she did very well. Thanks to some help from her friend Ellie, she didn't even cry when I left. They talked about Thanksgiving and painted a fall tree. She is so proud of that painting! Next week is the Thanksgiving feast, and she gets to be an indian. Whoo hoo!

I took Grandma to and from her LASIK surgery yesterday, and she was a model patient. The valium didn't kick in until after surgery...which then made for a very entertaining ride home.

In between school and chaperoning Grandma, I went Christmas shopping! It was so fun! I can't think of a time that I ever used "Christmas shopping" and "fun" in the same sentence. Megan makes it fun...I am SO excited about some of the presents...

The busy day ended with Daddy's flag football game. It was the last game of the season, and we hadn't been to one game, so we went to cheer for Daddy. Daddy scored a touchdown, and Megan verified that with her touchdown signal. She kept cheering for "Romo, Julius Jones, and Marion Barber". Of course she was more interested in running around and eating nature, so I really couldn't tell you much about the game other than they were all irritated at the officials. (Megan kept wearing her hat backwards and saying, "What up dog?" Who taught her that?)

No fear!

After this post, I'll quit rubbing it in that we're swimming and hanging out at the pool (maybe). Megan was a totally different person at the pool today. Instead of a little bit of timidness in the pool, NO fear what-so-ever. We weren't inside the gate 30 seconds before she tried to jump in on her own. Then she proceeded to wear Granna out with "push off the side" and "jump off the side". We both have tan lines from today! Whoo hoo! :)
