Peek-a-boo

I'm baaaaccckkk. I know, you've probably all been sitting in front of your computer screens, bug-eyed, waiting for a new post about the adventures of my adventurous Megan - for the wait, I apologize. We've been in Houston since Sunday with Uncle Rick and Aunt Karen, and are back in the area, but not home yet. I assure you I will get pictures uploaded and posted as soon as I get home tonight. Little bit more patience?

Rangers (finally) win

Megan, Daddy, Grandpa, Grandpa's friend Tony B, and I went to t-shirt night at the Ballpark tonight. It was an exciting game; the Rangers came back and won in the 10th inning, thanks to David Murphy. The losing streak is over! Megan had a blast watching the game, the dots, and eating peanuts with Grandpa. We got kind of silly during the game - hey, there was a lull there for a while - so Megan and I made silly faces for the camera/Daddy. Yes, it was L/XL t-shirt night at the game, so Megan now has her own "Ranger's gown", as she named it.

Just wondering....

For those of you who live "around" us (relatively...like in the metroplex), have you turned on your A/C yet? Those of you in Utah still getting rain and snow need not reply! :)

Fun at the park

Megan and I headed out to the park this mid-morning. It was a beautiful 74 degrees and the perfect day for expending some energy. Unlike last park season, where she was very timid and would only play on the swings, today she LOVED climbing and sliding. There were a few other moms and kids out there already, and she followed the older kids (3-4 years old) around, copying everything they did. They had her doing things that made me cringe...climbing the metal rungs on the ladder, hanging from the bars, and going down the tallest slide. Luckily no accidents! The funniest, and most embarrassing, thing she did was "confront" a stay-at-home dad about not going to work! The little boy asked his daddy something, and Megan turned to him and said, "Um, my daddy is at work. Do you work?" The man answered no, and she turned to tell me that he didn't work like her daddy. It was very confusing to her, but with a little tug of the arm and an explanation, she canned it. The man seemed amused...both at Megan's comments and my embarrassment.

MEGA Meltdown

This is what we sent to Gran and Papa's....

This is what they sent home to us...

Megan was scheduled to spend time with Gran and Papa last week while I was in Houston, but Papa got sick. Ever since then she asks, "time to go to Gran and Papa's?" several times a day. Gran finally relented, so Megan spent all day yesterday, last night, and this morning at Gran and Papa's house. But from the second she saw me there to pick her up at school, and not Gran, she has continued one major meltdown. I made the mistake of trying to stop at Albertsons for a few things and left sweating from having to deal with the "flailing-in-the-aisles" tantrum. She spent most of the 5, 6, and 7 o'clock hours in timeout (yeah, the gate is the only way it works right now).

Spring is here with a vengence

Update: I hung up with Aunt Krissa earlier because the weather guy said there was a tornado on the way. No tornado, but HAIL and a ton of lightning. Hail on my cute little garden. We just came in from looking at the blooms and veggies. Now I'm so afraid to walk out there...

Bestill my heart

Megan had to peel her own banana this afternoon, of course. When I went to grab the peel from her, she proved to me that she DOES listen to me at least part of the time...

Mommy: Here Meg, let me have your peel.

Megan: No lady, I want to put it in my compost pile.

Mommy: Well, you can hand it to me and I'll do it.

Megan: No. I wanna compost in MY compost pile.

Yes, to a certain extent

This article is true, but I refuse, at this point, to make my own detergent and cut back on scrapbooking.

Mini orchard

They look right puny now, but some day these suckers will produce more fruit than we will know what to do with. Introducing: the peach tree and the pear tree. Coming soon: the other pear tree, the plum tree, and the apple tree. (Oh, and the gas well in the background....)

Dagny the Gnat

We've had a few little gnats around out house lately (not due to the mess). One landed on Megan while she was in her high chair.

Megan: Daddy, what's this?

Daddy: It's a gnat, like a little fly.

Megan: A little fly?

Daddy: Yep. It's called a gnat.

Megan: His name is Dagny (not sure of the spelling), okay?

Needless to say, she spared that gnat execution for a few more minutes...who can smash a named gnat?

Because it's my favorite

Megan has a new train of thought. I thought it was cute at first, but now she tries to use it, and it isn't cute anymore.

At the grocery store: "I need apple juice because it's my favorite." (She won that one.)

In the car: "I need to go to Walmart because it's my favorite." (She lost that one.)

At home: "I need my Princess cup because it's my favorite." (Won.)

In the pantry: "I need fruit snacks because they are my favorite." (Depends.)

In the laundry room: "I need to wear my Ranger's shirt because it's my favorite." (Depends on what pile it's in.)

Declaration

Without even needing to contact the authorities, I hereby declare my house a disaster area. Someone should really clean this place up. Oh yeah, that's me.

Lily's Birthday Party

Our friend's daughter had a birthday party...not your normal April birthday party. Lily is SO funny about her parties. Last year she had an "ugly" party; this year she had a Halloween party! Megan dressed up as a Princess and had a BLAST! They even went made bags and went trick-or-treating - they have the nicest, most accomodating neighbors.

Unwelcome Home

I was in Houston for 2 days for work. I missed Megan, but apparently, she didn't miss me so much. After a marathon quest to get home, and arriving home at 3 a.m. (thank you Grandma and Grandpa for picking me up and taking me home in the wee hours of the morning), I woke up in my bed to, "Hey, where are my grandmas? I don't want you here! My grandmas and my daddy!" Uh, thanks a freakin' lot!

Help, Aunt Lisa! We need you!

Megan wanted me to read a book about dancing princesses. We got to the part where Belle does ballet. She asked me to show her how to do ballet. This is what she took away from my example:

To all those Sonic eaters...

We are on the look-out for the Texas Rangers "Sonic Slam Inning" entry form found on Sonic food bags. If you see one, please save it for us. We'd like to enter the contest this season. We spent about $100 last season trying to get one, and are on our way to that amount already this year. So far, every Sonic has been out or never even had them in the first place. Thanks!

Major depression

This is my last "vent" post of the day....hopefully for the week. I cannot promise such things, but will try to contain my thought processes. I'm sparing you the "self-help" thought process...and the house woes one...and the traveling/working/stay-at-home mom one. This trumps those.

Where is a 31 year-OLD, flat-chested, pasty-white woman supposed to find decent clothes these days??? I have two things that I need outfits for this week, events that surpass my solid color t-shirt/jeans wardrobe, so off to the stores. Whatever! I went to no less than 15 stores today/tonight and could not find a flippin' thing. And I wasn't even being picky; I was desperate and even willing to spend some money. But anything I tried on looked like crap - either too young, too old, not enough boobs, strange color, etc. And what's with the "baby-doll" look? Poofy belly shirts just make me look pregnant - which is not the look I'm going for - and even more frumpy than I already am. UGH. I'm thinking I'll just snatch up those mu mus I saw at Walmart the other day.

Is it just me?

Okay, so I was sitting in my house working when the doorbell rang. It was a little boy...little, like 5 years old (later he told me he is in kindergarten)...by HIMSELF. I thought maybe he was lost or something, but no, he was selling something for school. I asked if he was alone and he said yes, but his mom was at home. He doesn't live near me, so she has to be at least 2 streets over. By himself! And he was very open-mouthed telling me about himself. Who turns a 5 year old loose in a neighborhood? I mean I feel safe in my neighborhood, but there are construction workers all over the place, people looking at the neighborhood, and then who knows who else in here. Any one of those people could just yank him up and drive off. Is it just different with boys? Because I know my girl doesn't even stand on the front porch alone. I was scared for him. Or wait...should I be? Is that mom crazy or just extremely trustworthy, and I'm the crazy, paranoid one? (hey, I can take it...)

Requires constant supervision

I left the room for 30 seconds, and this is what I came back to...and pick up your jaws, I didn't stop her. I just sat down on the couch and watched her. Terrible mother! But I've been wound up so tight lately, why not? I'll pay for it later, I'm sure. (BTW, she showed Daddy her jumping trick tonight, and he wasn't so impressed.)

Naked Spaghetti

Megan's appetite has changed dramatically over the past few days and weeks. The same little girl who used to eat a variety of foods, save vegetables, will now eat a total of about 4 foods: turkey, cheese, pancakes, and yogurt. Other than that it's hit or miss - literally. If she doesn't want it, she throws it. She has spent the majority of her dinner times over the last week in time-out. Regarding pasta, she absolutely refuses to eat sauce on her spaghetti. She now requests "naked spaghetti" - even at Olive Garden!

Just one of those days...

Today was a much needed 'family day'. We had a rough, tough emotional week at our house and really needed the time together. We spent the entire day together...nothing fancy, just together.

Daddy and Megan took pity upon me and let me sleep in this morning. It kinda startled me, like was it already Mother's Day or something? It was hard to sleep though while I was smiling and laughing at the cute Megan/Daddy conversations and goings on throughout the house. They are SO cute together!

We checked on Megan's garden and flowers at least 10 times today because it was such a beautiful day to be outside. I'm onto her though...what she was really checking on was the not quite ready strawberry to see if maybe it became ready during the day, as that was her first and last stop every single trip.

The worst thing about today is that tomorrow is Monday...*sigh*

Conversations with Megan

I had one foot in the shower...
Megan: You wanna read dis book to me?

Mommy: I'm going to get in the shower. Can you read it while I'm in the shower?

Megan: (in tears) I don't know how to do the words!

Mommy: What? You know this story. Can you look at the pictures?

Megan: But I need to do the words too.

Mommy: You mean read?

Megan: Yes! I need to know to read.

Later...
Megan: Where's Daddy?

Mommy: At work.

Megan: Fixin' servers?

Mommy: Yep. Fixin' servers.

Megan: What's wrong with dem?

Mommy: I don't know. He just fixes them.

Megan: I think dere's an alligator in them! He can get it out!

proud moment

And, for once, this has nothing to do with Megan! You get to read about ME...yeah, feel free to click off this post if you want....hurry....I'm about to start bragging...

Back in January and February, I worked LONG and HARD on two curriculum units for a company - Romeo and Juliet and how to write a research paper. I was SO frustrated, done, and cross-eyed afterwards, and swore I would never look at it again. It just seemed so pointless and like it would remain in the Word document forever.

But today, I saw the final product, and I am SO proud of it! The actor that they got to deliver the lectures that I wrote was fantastic. He made them sound so interesting. I got to look through the lessons and the assignments, and wow...I wrote them! They changed a few things, for the better, but the majority of it stayed the same.

Doesn't make me want to do it again though!

OPENING DAY!

Gran and Papa took Daddy to Opening Day for his birthday. Luckily, Meg and I were invited too! It was a beautiful day for a game - 74 degrees. The sun came out for a while, and baked us, but there was a nice breeze too. Megan got to meet the Ranger's Horsey...the highlight of her day. She also met a new friend, the usher Dawn, when she needed a blue dot for the dot race instead of the green one. Dawn sweetly obliged, and Meg's blue dot won! She also enjoyed the 7th inning stretch, complete with the 100 year anniversary celebration of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame". The country singer Neil McCoy sang it from the dugout while Megan sang along and danced.

The Banquet

Tonight was Uncle Scotty's wrestling banquet. We donned our "fancy" apparel and participated in the festivities. It was very enjoyable and fun. Thanks for inviting us!

Megan got to see Christian!

Hey Honda...

You car manufacturers should make it a whole lot easier to whack a kid from the front seat.
Dateline: Tonight, 5:30 p.m.. getting ready for the wrestling banquet.
Megan had to do everything just like me. "I need to shave my legs, too. I wear pantyhose, too, Mommy! I need curl stuff in my hair, too." ETC. The pantyhose demand was the big issue because she's outgrown almost everything. But we found something. She had a very small, almost not even noticable hole in her tights, but they would work. UNTIL the 38 minute car ride to the banquet. I spent at least 33 of those minutes begging her to please stop sticking her fist up the hole in her tights and touching her belly with her hand. Her response? "You can't reach me Mommy. You try, but you can't reach me." So a quick trip to Target and $4.49 cents later, we had 3 new pair of tights...a pink pair, a cream pair, and a white pair. Guess which pair she WANTED to wear? The pink, but I won that one. I was so exhausted...

Growing up...

To her Daddy, with quite the distressed whine:

"NNNNNOOOOO! Please do not cut it! I want to eat my apple like a BIG person!"

Silly Grandpa

Somehow...amid the Megan noise, Grandpa fell asleep on the floor while they were playing - holding the magic wand!

Pretend elephant

Thanks to Jungle Book, Megan is infatuated with elephants. So she entertained the guests in the hotel lobby with her rendition of being an elephant (couldn't get this to upload while we were gone, so better late than never?).

"MOMMY! Watch 'dis. I gonna be a elephant!"

Photo collages

For those who have asked, the program I used to make my collages is Photoscape. (I blog-lifted the idea of the program from someone else's blog). You can download it for free! It is so easy to use, too.

Memphis RIBS!

Grandpa sent us to an alleyway restaurant called Rendezvous. It was fabulous! As you can see, we all enjoyed our ribs and meat. Yum-o! It was a great ending to a wonderful, full day.

MLK Jr. Anniversary

We made an impromptu trip to downtown Memphis tonight. It occurred to me, thanks to the U2 song and CNN, that tomorrow is the anniversary of MLK Jr's assassination in Memphis - 40th anniversary, to be exact. We drove down to the Lorraine Motel only to find out that it is apparently the stage for much hooplah tomorrow - perhaps even some presidential campaigning. They were putting up tents and testing equipment. It was quite an experience.

Zoo Day!

What started out as a questionable zoo day, ended up as a great zoo day. It stormed and rained all morning, but we went anyway - don't ya love the drowned rat mama look? We had a blast! Megan got to see all of the animals that she wanted to see, including a behind the scenes tour of the elephants. They had already put them up for the day since a storm was coming (12 hours later...nice excuse). However, Megan turned on the charm to the elephant keeper. He let us come in behind the display, and she almost got close enough to touch them! Oh, I put two pics up here of her holding her nose...anywhere it smelled like animal, she held her nose and suggested that we leave! She was definitely more interested in splashing in the puddles on the trek from one animal to the other. Oh, can you see her pretending to be a flamingo? And as if you had to have proof, she passed out right before we left.

The Mighty Mississippi

Daddy told Megan that there was a "big river" down the street, so naturally, she requested over and over and over again to see the "big river". We walked along the edge, as it is SO HIGH due to rain and flooding in other areas. In fact, the Coast Guard was out searching for a car washed off the road!

Peabody Ducks

We finally made it in time to watch the duck procession. Megan loved it! One little duck took off early and made quite the scene. Definitely worth the wait.

Childrens' Museum

Yesterday Megan and I went to the Memphis Childrens' Museum. We had a blast! We picked the perfect day, as there were only about 20 other kids there - total. No school groups, no day cares...just moms and kids (and a few straggling dads). I had to drag her out of there crying. Mean mom!
