Roller "Kating"

DSC_0727

We went to a neighbor's birthday party at the skating rink. Neither one of the kids had ever been roller skating, so needless to say, it was an adventure. Megan put her skates on right away and hit the rink. She didn't quite understand why we all had to go around in the same direction and, in true Megan fashion, had to skate upstream just to test the system. That's my girl. She went around several times and didn't give up.

Connor was asleep when we first got there, and took a while to wake up, but when he did, he insisted upon skating. We asked for little toddler skates, and the knowledgeable 16 year old behind the counter assured me that his skates were tight and would not roll. BS. His legs were in constant motion, and I had to hold him up. Not only did I have to hold him up, but I had to keep us moving. I was soaked with sweat after just one time around the rink. He LOVED it and was very sad, okay even hysterical, when we had to stop.

Kids Update

I have about 500 excuses as to why I haven't blogged for the past 2 months, but I won't bore you with those. But I will give a shout out to a young old family friend who reminded me that it was time to update again and do something I love. Thanks, Frankie! :)

So I'll start with an update about the kids. I wrote down a few, okay several, things about each kid to share.

Since I last typed, Connor turned 2. One of these days I'll post pictures of his birthday party. He's quite the little talker. He says a lot of funny things, but my favorites are: "Guess what, Mommy?", "How you doin' today?", "Hold you...", "No, dinner, I playin' trains.", and "Bubble G (in place of my Grandpa's nickname Double G). He loves trains, dinosaurs, animals, Lightning McQueen, and food. He can't go 2 minutes without having a train in his hand...if he doesn't have one, he's walking around asking, "Where's my train?". He loves school and his teachers. At the dinner table each night, we go around the table and ask each person, "What was your favorite part of the day?" Connor's answer is always, "Miss H", his teacher. He enjoys helping around the house, especially gardening and taking the food out to the compost bin. He found a huge spider/cob web up in the skylight at school. He has named that "Spiderman". He shows everyone and tells everyone, "Dere's Piderman up dere." He can count to 22, and likes to practice those skills while playing hide and go seek in the house. He's not that great at it because he can't wait for us to find him. He likes to pretend to be a puppy and he likes to pretend to be a viking who chases the dragon (Megan). He went to a movie at the movie theater last weekend, for the first time ever, and spent half the movie saying, "I at da movies!" My most favorite thing he does is at night, when we go in to tuck him in, he says, "Mommy, you sweep me?" (You sleep with me?) He's so precious, yet SO much the boy.

Megan - 5 going on 14? :) Megan is so much like me when I was little. It's rather scary. Megan has turned into quite the little reader. She reads everything, and would rather read something for us than let us try to do it ourselves. Uncle Scott learned the hard way before he left that Megan can read text messages aloud. Her favorite books are the Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa series she got from Aunt Kelly for her birthday. She goes to gymnastics 2 nights a week now and the extra hour of practice each week really shows. She is very proud of her cartwheels, handstands, and balance beam routine. She is especially helpful and protective of Connor...when she isn't picking on him, of course. Last night there was a wasp on the playset. Connor went up the ladder while Megan flew into hysterics trying to get him away from the wasp. She was so scared for him. She speaks "girl talk" regularly, as in "So-and-so is not friends with so-and-so anymore because she doesn't like so-and-so..." It's painful to listen to, but I enjoy watching her dramatic interpretation of it all. Along those same lines, she likes anything and everything that has to do with teenagers - "older" music, Hannah Montana, Justin what's his face, observing a group of teenagers, etc. Oh how she wishes she could be 13. However, she still sucks her thumb and carries "Little" around, although not as much (either one). She is interested in her past, and likes to hear stories about when she was little. And it's a real treat if we tell her a story about when we were little. She likes to dress herself, and has been known to be seen in a slightly questionable outfit. If/when you see her in public, I am not in charge of dressing her or making sure she matches. Please do not judge the mother. She keeps track of all things date related on her calendar next to her bed. This morning she informed me that indeed it is passover and the next date we will have a full moon AND that Easter is in 5 days. I stay informed. Now, if I could just get her to organize me. She has her own flower garden and planted several flowers. Her goal is to be able to have her "own flowers to cut and make bouquets for people". My favorite, yet saddest, thing lately is how much she misses her Uncle Scott who is away at boot camp. She talks about him every day and draws pictures for him. We're saving most of them here for when he gets home because, well, there are so many.

And that's a wrap, for now.
