Shot Time!

Today I had to take Harry in to get his shots for kindergarten. I hate doing shots at this age. When they are younger they just don't know what is going on and get over it quickly. If they are older you can tell them to be tough and man up. But when they are 4 or 5 they trust you so much. They don't really realize that it's going to hurt. Plus I don't think this nurse is very gentle sometimes.
When she pricked his finger it took him by surprise and he was really shocked that it hurt so much. She must of gotten him good because he bled and bled and we had to change band-aids and hold it tight to finally get it to stop bleeding.
When that was all done he said, "Wow, I am glad the shots are over." I felt so bad knowing that it was just starting.
Then she did the TB test on his arm and he thought it was all done. When she then pulled out four more syringes I though he was going to be freaked. But he stayed calm. She did all four shots, one at a time and I had to help hold him down. UGHHH The look in his eyes went from surprised, to pain, to pleading (he was actually begging me to make it stop) and then betrayed. I think he was really mad at me for awhile that I would put him through that.
I gave him lots of hugs and kissed and of course went to target to buy a new toy.
Mitchell has a HUGE fear of shots. HUGE! When someone else gets a shot he will leave the room or once he even crawled under the chairs and plugged his ears. So, I didn't want to tell Harry over and over that he was a brave boy because I didn't want to implant in his mind that it was a horrible thing he had to endure. So I kept saying things like, "Wow Harry! You did great and that was so easy!" "That wasn't bad at all!" "That was no big deal, huh Harry?" I didn't think it would really work but went Matt came home tonight and asked him if his shots hurt he said, "No, not at all!"
It must have worked! I am such a great manipulator!

1st Concert

Last night was Paige's first concert! She was so nervous and excited! It was with all the band, choir and orchestra students of 2 schools. She is loving playing the cello and practices every day with no reminding from me. Her music teacher challenged everyone to learn a difficult piece and practice it. If they could pass it off then they could play it at the concert. Only 3 kids passed it off and she was one of them. So her and 2 other boys played the song in front of 300 people in the audience. She did great!
On the way home from the concert I told her that she was going to have to practice her spelling words with me once she got home. She said that is was going to be pass her bedtime by the time we got home. I laughed and asked, "What do you care? You don't fall asleep till after 10:00 anyways!" She said, "Ya, but if I have to do homework that will be cutting into my ME time."

Me time? What 10 year old needs ME time? She is so funny. We send her to bed and she stays awake for hours up there in her room. She loves all that alone free time and doesn't want anything cutting into it I guess. Silly girl!
