The Countdown Is On

Only a couple weeks left till baby arrives! If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see we’ve been trying to keep busy with things that might be a bit more challenging with a newborn. That and make some memories in the last few weeks of being a family of three.

We did a Color Walk last month. I’ve always wanted to do one and this was for a fundraiser for the local Hospice house so we were happy to sign up. We weren’t sure how it would go with a toddler but she did so great! At first she wasn’t too sure about letting strangers covering her in powder; but by the end she was having a great time.

We’ve done several small hikes in the area. I wasn’t sure how I’d do being pregnant and hiking. But I’ve loved it; feels good to move and spend time in nature. We’ve done our last before baby. Figure it’s probably best to not be out of cell service as we get closer.

We have a camping trip and a couple of small hikes planned for later this summer so by then we’ll be itching to get back out on the trails!
Speaking of camping, we have spent 4 weekends in the travel trailer. Two of those were trying it and our toddler in it for the beginning of the season. The last two weekends were at a campground we love. It’s so nice to get away with no service and just spend the days outside! I asked our toddler what she wants to do this weekend and she said camping again; so I’m happy she’s been enjoying it!
I’ve gone to a couple paint nights and done some self care evenings where I get a pedicure or hair done or manicure! Last weekend we went for a date night in the city. The last time we went was just before our daughter was born so we were definitely due for one! We’re not often both dressed nicely so it called for a picture! Have a great weekend! everyone!

A Little Update

Well, turns out I’m not that great at this consistent blogging thing. Life seems to have gotten considerably busier since September. We’ve been trying to enjoy winter. Thankfully it’s been milder than usual so we hopefully made the most of it. This weekend is supposed to be in the -30C but suppose we can’t complain :)

We have a pretty good size hill right outside our door; so this year we packed it into a sled run. It surprisingly got very very slick. My adventure loving little girl didn’t seem to mind the speed and loved it!

Speaking of which, she’s been big into climbing anything and everything these days. Thankfully. It her crib yet but I’m sure that’s coming. I’m not a huge fan of this climbing thing but she seems to enjoy it. Our poor chickens met a tragic demise during the Fall. We thought we had extra secured their coop from predators but apparently it was not. Our neighbors just gave us their chickens. Tayley is thrilled to have “bawk bawks” again! She diligently checks them daily for food, water, and eggs. And they finally laid her an egg! She could not have been more excited for her discovery. Part of our life being more busy, is that my snowboard instructor brother broke his leg at the beginning of the season and has moved in with us while it heals. We also found out in October that I am expecting again. We have kept it pretty quiet as we’re still cautious and aware of what can happen. But we’re hopeful and optimistic for another healthy baby. At my first ultrasound they pushed my date back; so as of right now I’m almost halfway. I have another scan in a week so we’ll see if it changes again. I’m not sure how much she understands about it but, tayley is pretty excited about the baby.
She has 2 dolls that are her babies. They come everywhere with us and often cry almost as much as real babies. She says it’s because they need their mama so I’m getting practice at carrying them around while I make her food or change her diaper.
We’re working on weaning from breastfeeding and potty training before the new baby arrives in June/July. She does really well with. Oh when my husband is home so we’ve been trying to encourage that. She has music class and swimming with him and I’m finding things to do. Last weekend I went to a paint night in the city with my sister. I really enjoyed it so I might have to attend a few more!
So, that’s where we’re at! I’m sure there is more but those are the highlights. I find Instagram a lot easier to post on so I’m on there more frequently. But once again, I’ll attempt to post on here more ;)

Our Last Camping Trip Of The Year

Well... I suppose I must admit our camping season has ended. We had hoped to go a few more times but with the negative temperatures and occasional snow, I think we’ve camped our last night for the year a few weeks ago.

We have been wanting to try this campground all summer but the forest fire that was headed our way was also threatening this area. They lifted the alert and reopened the campground a couple days before the September long weekend. We managed to book one of the few sites left. We avoid campgrounds on long weekends.

Lots of loud people + our crazy dogs = not my idea of relaxing weekend.  But this campground closed right after this weekend so it was then or wait til next year.

It turns out we had the whole place to ourselves! It was fully booked but only one other site decided to show up. No complaints here!

It was a little cold with the wind at times. And the lake was definitely too cold to swim in but Tayley found other ways to splash in it. She spent ours with her shovel and pail in the sand.

We’ve definitely added it to our list to camp at next year again. With views like this, how could we not?!

So sadly we’re winterizing the trailer before we store it. We’ll miss our camping adventures from now until it’s time to take it out again. But we look forward to our winter exploring.

Dreaming Of Fresh Air And Summer Days

Where we live we don't often have a lot of natural disasters. The only thing we really have to be concerned about is wildfires. We've been lucky the past few years. Fires have been close enough to see from our house but not threatening. Usually they have them under control quickly.

If you follow me on Instagram you'll have seen my instastories that we've had a forest fire for the past 27 days. At one point we were on evacuation alert but they've been able to slow the fire down and have taken us off alert for now. We're surrounded by several fires so the air has been very thick with smoke and terrible quality. So we've had to spend a lot of time inside. We usually spend hours a day outdoors so this hasn't been easy.

Some days are easier than others but I'm finding it more and more difficult. Hopefully the smoke dies down soon! But for now I'll remember all the great times we had this summer! We've really tried to make the most of it with camping and hiking whenever we could. So here are a few of the things we've done this summer!

Camping in Mount Robson

Camping And hiking in Wells Gray Provincial Park. The waterfalls were our favorite!

Prince Rupert, Terrace, and Smithers
More camping and hiking! (See a trend yet?!)
And summer isn't summer without bubbles!

Tayley Turns One

This past weekend we celebrated Tayley turning one! Everyone warned us that the time would fly by and wow has it ever. I don’t know where the year went. Pretty sure she was just born a few months ago.

First birthday parties aren’t really for the kids though are they? I see them more as a “yay! You survived and they survived!”  Because I’m sure if Tayley had picked the theme it would have been kitties and not boho chic/floral woodland lol. I think my husband was probably the most excited out of the three of us. “It’s my little girl’s birthday. And she’s only one once” was said many times!

We had over 200 real flowers and I didn’t count how many fake flowers. There was lace and burlap and a teepee with lace. I love how the whole party turned out! (Plus now I’m convinced I want that many flowers always in the house). For party favours we sent vases of flowers home with everyone.

She may not have known what a birthday is all about but she certainly had a great time getting lots of attention and playing with her cousins! We had a very happy and tired girl by the end of the night.

I thought I might be a ball of tears but I held it together pretty good. And as sad as it is that my baby isn’t a baby anymore, I have a little relief too. The newborn and baby phases we’re at times stressful and tiring. This new stage we’re at seems less. It seems like a fun age where her personality and communication becomes more and more pronounced. I’m excited to watch her grow.
