Jack is Turning 5

Well, I love birthdays and I almost hate them. It's so hard to believe that tonight is the last night I'll have a 4 year old boy...time flies so quickly it's painful! Jack's life has been interesting in his little mind, I'm sure. Moving in with Grammy and Papa at a few months old, Daddy going "to school" most of his life, a baby sister born, then moving out of the only home he has known to across town...he may see things as being pretty rough! At least adventure-filled. Jack is my boy--a Momma's boy, and I love that. I hope it is always so. Things I love about Jack:

--He loves to snuggle

--He still wants to pinch "soft parts" of me when he snuggles---neck, back of the upper arm

--He loves pirate things, baseball stuff, race cars

--He REALLY loves Monster trucks and motorcycles

--He likes the Aggies and Texans; but tells me (and not Daddy) he also thinks Texas Tech is "cool"

--He loves anything camo

--He is scared of the dark and loud noises (both come directly from his Mommy)

--He still says "Cowl-lie" instead of "Callie"

--He can remember ANYTHING--seriously

--He hugs his teacher or the school staff anytime he sees them

--He runs REALLY fast. All the time.

--He loves Wendy's hamburgers

--He wants to be a football player, baseball player, fireman, garbage truck man, and construction worker when he grows up.

--He likes to lead prayers, and prays for all the family members (extended) by name almost every time.

I LOVE this kid!! I know there are many more fun times to come, but I'm not ready for him to grow up just yet. I guess 5 is still little enough, right?!

Halloween Cutie

Some neighbors had a cute Halloween set-up in their yard, so I took Macie one morning to try and get some pictures in her Halloween outfit--she wasn't really in the mood for "cheese", but I got a few anyway...

Big Girl

My baby is growing up!! She likes to copy Big Sis and Big Brother, and wants to brush her teeth now.
Although to me she doesn't look old enough to have several teeth, she actually has a mouthfull!

Crazy School Days

Jack and Callie's school recently had "crazy week"--every day was something different to do with their uniform or accessories...Crazy Hat and Sock Day, Backwards Day, Crazy Hair Day, Crazy Sunglasses Day. On Backwards Day, Callie even had me braid her pigtails backwards--started at the bottom and worked up--don't know if that's clear in the picture. Fun! Oh, yeah, Jack's sunglasses actually have skull/crossbones across the lens, but you can't see it in the picture...he is very in to pirate things!

Healthy Habits

You are probably wondering why I put a picture of food on here...I just thought it was awfully yummy looking plate of spaghetti, and it is also a recipe from a book I am trying out, "Deceptively Delicious". Many of you Mommys probably know what I am talking about, but for those of you who don't, it's recipes that use pureed vegetables and fruits "disguised" in foods so that kiddos get more nutrition in their meals. This spaghetti sauce had pureed carrots and red pepper, the turkey meatballs had pureed squash, and used whole wheat noodles. The kids liked it, and I did too!

Farm Visit

The kids and I recently spent the weekend at my parents' house in Northeast Texas. We enjoyed a family reunion at my Great-Aunt Maddie Lou's house. My Great Uncle, Bill, is the lone sibling left of my Grandma's family, and he is 84. The house where the reunion was held has a beautiful backyard, with lots of landscaping, and numerous fountains, statues, and a goldfish pond. Macie was fascinated with the statues of animals and kids and especially one of a dog she just kept hugging and kissing! Strange child. Jack made friends with a distant cousin of his, and when we left, the other kiddo said, (insert MAJOR East Texas drawl here), "Now Jack, you come back and see me!" So cute! The man in the yellow shirt holding/walking with Macie is my sweet cousin Eric. After the reunion, we went down the road to my Dad's cousins' house (yes, we are related to everyone within a 20 mile radius!) where there is almost every farm animal imaginable from horse, cow, chicken, dog, goat (and adorable baby goats!) to even llama! The kids really enjoyed that. The next day my mom, myself, and my Aunt Lannie took the kids to a nearby pumpkin patch--first one of the fall! The kids also just love being at my folks' place--outside with miles to run, cows to see, trees to climb. I had to take a picture of a huge Oak tree that stands near my parents' house--it has been there since my Great-Grandpa lived right where my parents live now.
