Baby Wyatt

Wyatt Christian Fenn was born on Friday, November 12th @ 6:16 am.  He was 8 pounds 2 ounces and 21 inches.  He came one month early but obviously he was ready to come.

Here's my story:  (basically, I'm writting this so that I don't forget) On Monday, November 8th, I went to my doctor and she said that I was dilated to a 3 1/2 and 70% efaced.  We were a little nervous since I was bearly 36 weeks pregnant.  Jared and I ran home and packed our bags and made our last minute purchases.  I went to work the next day and I just had the feeling that every mother-to-be gets that there wan't much time left.  I quickly trained my permemant sub and started my maternity leave on Wednesday.  Thursday night at 11:00 pm, while watching the "Jay Leno Show," I felt a little pop inside and then came the gush of water.  MY WATER BROKE.  We quickly asked our nice neighbor to come sit with Logan while my parents made their way to our house to pick up Logan.   Jared drove 90 mph all the way to the hospital.

We were admitted to the hospital at 11:30 pm and once I got my epidural, life was great until the pushing.  Wyatt's shoulders were large and he got stuck on my pelvic bones.  As soon as the doctor realized that the cord was wrapped around his neck and arms, it became an emergency situtation.  Three other nurses came running into the room to help get the baby out.  One nurse jumped onto the table and started pushing down on my stomach, others were pulling Wyatt's head and I was pushing.  It was CRAZY.  After 30 minutes of hell, Wyatt came out completely BLUE and wouldn't breath for about 30 seconds.  We were panicking but as soon as we heard his cry, we knew everything was OK.  They tested his blood sugar and realized that he was shaking because his levels were dangerously low.  They begged me to give him a bottle and I said, "Yes, please do whatever you need to."  His blood sugar was up and down for the entire three day stay at the hospital so we continued to give him a bottle to keep him from crashing.  Consequently, Wyatt will not breastfeed, but since I don't like to breastfeed anyway, I'm totally content.  Formula is a blessing.  We LOVED the staff at the IMC and feel so blessed to have our little healthy, sweet Wyatt with us.

Lesson learned:  always be prepared.  Never have a set plan in your mind because it will probably change (like the breastfeeding thing).  Always thank your nurses and doctors.
