Happy New Year
This has been a busy year for the Payne family. It started when we moved to Anchorage, Alaska in December 2006 from Cedar Hills, Utah. Kara has loved living here and especially loves eating all the snow she can get her hands on. It is beautiful here in the winter and we can't wait to see what else the winters have to offer.
Kassi has had a bunch of firsts - sitting, crawling, walking, sledding, playing in the snow, new foods, and now she is even talking a little. We have loved watching her grow up and especially love her red hair.

Brian has taken advantage of our new home and was able to go snowmobiling and get in a little fishing. He is excited to be a resident this year and try out dip netting for the first time.
We've even been able to get out a little as a family. We spent the weekend at an old family favorite spot - Gracious House. We pulled out our bikes and the girls enjoyed being pulled around the neighborhood and we were even able to go hiking.
We also spent time this summer visiting parks around the city with other moms and kids from the ward and Kara took swim lessons. She just loves being in the water and has no fear. When fall rolled around, we started Kara in pre-school. She loves learning and spending time with other kids.

Happy New Year Part 2
Kara celebrated her third birthday in May and Kassi had her first birthday in September. As in past years, Grandma Swenson decorated the cakes and did a wonderful job. Kara and Kassi have loved being close to their grandma and grandpa Swenson and spending time with their uncles.
We were able to celebrate two weddings: the marriage of Leslie Payne to Evan Danforth in the Billings, Montana temple and the marriage of Adam Swenson to Elena Sitnikova at Paradise Cove in Hawaii. They were great opportunities to see family and we loved being able to see everyone.
Kara decided that she wanted to be one of the three Musketeers for Halloween. We couldn't just have one Musketeer, so we had Kassi and Alan dress up too. They were a hit and Kara loved having Alan and Kassi dressed up just like her. Kassi just loved all the candy.
We spent Christmas on the North Shore of Oahu. We enjoyed a nice warm Christmas, spending part of the day hanging out on the beach. Although we enjoyed the warmth and sun, we missed having a white Christmas.
In addition to celebrating Christmas in Hawaii, Brian was able to get scuba diving certified, we played on the beach, visited the Honolulu zoo, hiked Wimea Falls, played a little golf, walked around the Valley of the Temples, attended Adam's wedding, and just enjoyed being together as a family. It has been a great year and our family looks forward to the many adventures this next year holds.
