I know it has been a while since my last post, but I really do have a good excuse this time. About a month ago, I was hand washing dishes, because our dishwasher was not working properly. While washing a glass, I stuck my hand inside and turned. Next thing I knew, the glass broke, my thumb knuckle was barely attached, and blood was dirtying my clean dishes. Thankfully, I have a wonderful neighbor who let me drop Sadie off so I could take myself to urgent care. The cut was deep enough that it cut part of my tendon and I needed 12 stitches! The doctor put me in a splint and instructed me not to move my right thumb, in hopes the tendon would heal properly and surgery would not be needed.
In case you are wondering, yes, I am right handed. Have you ever tried to not use your thumb for even a day? Well, lets just say I am very grateful for that feature which separates us from animals. It's amazing how much I use my thumb without a second thought. Many tasks, like typing, are virtually impossible. So, this is my great excuse for not being able to blog. Once I got my splint off, I started to tackle my enormous list of to dos and am now feeling somewhat caught up. My thumb is healing nicely. Even though I do not have full range of movement yet, it should come over time. I only wish I had a cooler story to tell when people ask about my scar. "I was doing my dishes, when all of the sudden..." That just doesn't scream excitement. The good news, we fixed our dishwasher!
We have done a lot since my last post (prepare yourself for a lot of pictures). I went down to my parents' house so they could help me with feeding, changing, and cleaning Sadie. Thank you Mom and Dad for all of your help! I really couldn't have done it without you. While in Monroe, the family went up to Monrovian (a canyon) and had a cook out. Brian roasted his first campfire hot dog! Sadie's cousins made her a "throne" to sit on. She spent the whole time sitting on this rock, eating chips.
A week or so ago, we went to Las Vegas for Alex's cousin's wedding. Mimi, Grampy, Aunt Kate, and Aunt Emily were all able to go, too. We had a blast spending time with them. We went to the shark reef exhibit at Mandalay Bay, which is well worth the money. Besides seeing tons of sharks up close, you can touch rays and horseshoe crabs. They have an octopus, jelly fish, an albino crocodile, a comodo dragon, and lots of cool fish.
We spent some time just walking around and seeing the sites. At MGM, there were three lion cubs hanging out with their trainers (inside the glass habitat). The cubs were active and playful. Sadie loved seeing them up close. For lunch one day, we ate at the Bellagio's buffet. Yum!!! They had the best sweet potatoes I have ever eaten. I'm not ashamed to admit I had three or four servings. Sadie was so good, considering how busy we were. The drive there and back was not bad at all. She loved riding on her Daddy's shoulders while we walked around (Alex liked it, too).
Many may already know this, but a new, huge bridge is about to open by the Hoover Dam. You will no longer be able to drive across it when the bridge opens. Knowing this, we decided to drive down to the dam. We took a tour and, of course, drove across the dam and back again. By the way, Sadie is really good at listening to people talk and then repeating words. Guess which word she learned when we took her to the
dam. That's right! Oops. Everyone made an effort to not say it, in hopes she'd forget. Lesson learned.
For those of you who watch Pawn Stars on the History channel, we went to the actual pawn shop. It was a little disappointing. They make it look so big and flashy on TV. It's just a regular, old pawn shop. But at least we can say we've been there.
While walking down the strip, I saw my favorite car (Shelby Cobra) sitting in a parking lot. The guy said I could rent it for the day or for the hour, but it would have cost me a pretty penny. I'll just wait until Alex and Grampy want a fun, father and son activity. Then they can put a kit together and I'll drive my own car.
Right after we got home from Vegas, we celebrated Megan's birthday, Disney style. Everyone dressed up like a Disney character. I made Megan a fairy cake with Tink on top (Megan dressed up like Tink, too). We had a lot of fun. Happy Birthday Megan! You really are just a big child.
Here are some pictures of the corn maze and pumpkin patch we went to this weekend. This place is called Vineyard Garden Center and is off of Geneva and north of University Parkway (just south of 400 S). It was great! In addition to the maze and pumpkins, we got to see farm animals and play on the playground. Sadie loved riding in the wagon, even more than picking pumpkins.
This is the apron I just finished sewing. I'm proud I actually finished it, instead of just throwing it away. Next time, I am buying one from the store.
The last few pictures are of activities we've been doing during the past month. We went to the dinosaur museum at BYU and fed the ducks. I've also started taking Sadie to the activities at the Springville library. They are really fun, especially Adventure Story Time. If you live in the area, I would recommend checking them out, or seeing if your library has activities.

To wrap up this update, my pregnancy is going really well. I am carrying really low, so my major complaint has been lower back pain. We're pretty excited to meet this little, active boy. He sure likes to move around. Sadie is starting to understand a little more about what's going on. She thinks a baby is hiding in my tummy. This makes sense, hide-and-seek is more familiar to her than a pregnancy. Sadie is going to be a great big sister. We just love her to pieces. I can't believe how much she has learned in the past month. Her favorite song to sing is the ABC song and she can really jabber. It's so exciting to see her learn and grow, but so sad that she's growing up.
