Cheap Tips # 1...

Ok,  I've been saving this one for a while now.    I've been meaning to share this because one, it'll save you money and two its a funny story.

i'd like to start sharing some tips because I'm a cheapskate.  Most of the them, I guarantee, if you are frugal enough .. you already know about... but some, hopefully, you might find helpful.

Tip # 1  Buying Bagels at Von's.

For the last year or so Von's has had their amazing freshly baked bagels constantly on sale a dozen for $3.99.  They also have prepackaged ones for $1.99.   NOW, if you are like me, its just me and my husband at home.   We cannot consume 12 bagels in a week.  just not happening.   BUT i HATE the prepackaged ones because they never package my favorite ones: wheat.   And if I were to buy the 6 individually it costs more then if i were to buy all 12. BUT i hate wasting.

Quite a predicament ...

Here's what to do:  Wait for the sweet bakery ladies and ask them kindly to print you up a NEW tag for a six pack of bagels (It'll usually say 6 plain or 6 sesame because there is really no tag for assorted).  Then mix and match your favorite six bagels for the $1.99  and slap that tag on your bag.

Here's what not to do:   Take up the six bagels without a preprinted stickers and ask for the $1.99 price.  You WILL ruffle the cashier's feathers and you WILL get into an argument with the manager about how you've done it before and you'll do it again... and you WILL pay the full $4.74...   Just ask for a preprinted tag and let it be just between you and the bakery girls what you're doing!

The end of the year is fast approaching

I can hardly believe my second year of teaching is coming to a close. I mean, here at my school I go two weeks longer  then the other local schools.....  but its still almost over.

I was in a department meeting mapping out the end of the year and there's like this week, next week, memorial week LAST week of school.

Now compound that with the fact that the last two weeks here are dedicated to preparing for a personal reflection of the year for each individual student- its like its already here.

Summer. I can here you!  Sleeping in. Sewing up a storm. Avoiding the heat. And watching way too much television.

Awwww. Perfection.

Pandora Radio.

How amazing.

I know i've been using it for over a year now... but It still ceases to amaze me at how much it thinks like me.  And its a great addition to my long commutes when the three music stations in my town aren't playing anything good (which happens often.).

Recent Pandora Gems:
- N*SYNC: Lets talk about flash back of awesomeness!  you weed out the newer stuff and Pandora gets you only want 90s, its smooth sailing.
-GLEE CAST:  I can't tell you how epic this is!  Once you dislike  the Mraz and Buble enough its pure Broadway bliss!  (plus a few old school Disney musicals sprinkled in...)

The Downside.
-Only one:  The moment you run out of skips.... its like the walls are closing in on you.  I ran out today and NONE, NOT ONE, of my stations can appease me.  Suddenly we are all playing crap and I can't get away.  I can't start new stations fast enough....   Its like they know....

Early Birthday.

So this June i celebrate 28 years on this planet.

A few weeks ago a good friend posted about if she could pinpoint the 29 (one for each year) albums that influenced her.

I've been compling this list too.  i've come to realize that I can catagorize my music into four distinctive, choronological periods.  (some over lap, but thats because I was in transition.)

May the 4th be with you.

No, this won't be a Star Wars Post.

(though i could go with it for a while)

It's an update blog:  Here's whats going on:

In no particular order:
1. I started a Cooking Club at my school, and my kids LOVE it.   So far we've learned knife skills, mixing skills, we tasted fresh herbs and used in dishes, and make cupcakes.  It's truly a joy.  Oh and last week they "stole" my camera and went on a picture spree.   I'm sure i'll post them as some point.

2.  I started a garden.   I'll have a whole post about the process and then about the follow up.  (i see this as being an ongoing update)

3.  I'm a major slacker when it comes to the 365 project. i have my pictures all (well, almost all) taken.  I just have that pesky task of editing and uploading them. So its probably more of a 352 project.

4. School is almost over. wow.  I can't believe it!  how time flies.  I have a contract to come back next year.  whew.  Now I don't have to stress about it any more.

5.  Our Bible study leader is moving churches, so I am thinking of stepping into the leader position.  Its only right since I have been co-leader.  hmm...  I'll still be praying about it.

6.  I have a new couch thats A-MA-ZING.  no, like really, it kicks your couch's butt.  And I'm pretty much finished decorating my two living rooms and dining room!    Pictures and full post to come.

hmm...pretty much all of these can be posts.  Well, stay tuned.

(p.s. - JANA I WILL POST PICTURES OF MY HOUSE!!!!!!)
(pps - Jill - There.  Happy?)

or lack of oscars...

I wanted to post today about the how much i love the oscars....  but unfortunately... recently I do not.

I mean, I DO... and I love to make my picks.  But The past 5 years or so, I just haven't had time to see any thing.    And usually I have at least seen most of the movies.  This year... I have been so busy that Tad and I HAVEN"T EVEN SEEN ANY MOVIES!   The only movie we saw this year was: Star Trek.  Terrible.

Just a few weeks ago Tad and I finally got in motion to FINALLY go and see Sherlock Holmes, we checked online, 7:45 Showing... We had dinner before, and we walked to the theatre only to see a sign that said:  "THE 7:45 SHOWING OF SHERLOCK HOLMES HAS BEEN CANCELED."  Great.  The only other thing at that time were the parade of scary movies made for teenagers. No thanks.

Just our luck i think.  I guess I"ll have to netflix all of those movies and start watching.

there's no time... there's never any time..

i'm not to the jessie's song level yet... but  I am feeling the pinch.  Since Jan I've been working pretty well, and not taking stuff home with me...  but I've pushed a lot of things off (planning wise) and now its all back to get me.

And since I've been a lifelong procrastinator... i am a huge super stress bubble.  yikes.

I am also behind on uploading my 365 project....  I have all my photos taken, just not uploaded.  yikes.

But, The good new is:  I blogged today!  I guess my dream of staying on the ball with this blogger is working!

blogging goals

Lets get serious. This is Not a new years....   But a Shake - off - the - winter - slump resolution. So Welcome March!

Here are my commitments to blogging in no particular order.

01. No apologies.   my life can be boring, and I can neglect my blog at times.  But here and now NO apologies for not posting or posting something boring, unexciting.  If its worthy, I'll blog it.  if not... then you can un-follow me.

02. Who am I blogging for!    i know all 5 people who read this... and they know me.   If you know me, you know my (full) name and my school and all that jazz. I will not be identifying anything.  I have very techno savvy students who would die to see this.  so.  I regularly google myself to be sure i am untraceable.

03.  No blabbing.  No rambling.  This is super hard for me as I have a lot to say - but most of you (all but maybe my mommie) get bored when you see a giant paragraph.  i know i do.

04. Consistency.  I will blog.  Hold me to at least 4-5 times a week.  I would like to do daily, but I'm just not that exciting.  We'll see. Plus, i need to have more time.

...if you haven't already, and you'd like to set some blogging goals for me... please do.  I'm taking my cue from a fab blogger martawrites.  Take her blog&business course with me!  I'd like to give the appearance of being a professional.

My Fabulous Bible Study

I know It's almost all the way through January (wow)...

But it was my first week back in Bible study after our Winter Break, (and I missed last week due to family in town).    I love my Bible study so much!  Though we were really small tonight, I still felt so loved and prayed for by these girls!  I was so blessed to be a part leader in this group of young women, and we are growing right along eachother.  I can't believe how far we all have come in six months...  I am so excited for where we will be another six months from now.  If you're in town and need some girlfriends, let me know, we'll go!

Plus, this Bible study is Kick-a.
It mixes enough intelligence into it Daniel that I feel like I'm really thinking and not just blinding following.   So, if you haven't looked at it its Daniel from Beth Moore.  I know some of you that follow me are into this  Study as well, doesn't God just speak to you?  And if not you, then you know its speaking to someone else directly?

Ok, thats all, I'm just super jazzed about this.

The Dreaded Sunday Night....

I have come to HATE sunday nights....

There is only one reason for this.

School is the next day.
   Please note the following items:
-I love teaching.  Each day is an adventure, and I have a bunch of kids to impart my knowledge on.
-I love my school.  Though we are working through the kinks of a brand new school... We are all passionate about what we do.  Teaching.  And we are all good at it.
-Really, and truely i am not a bitter teacher who hates her students and can't wait for the day to be over.  In fact, my day flies by and suddenly I'm done.

But... after three weeks of sleeping in and not seeing some of the knuckleheads that plague my classroom - I'm beginning to like it.  I think anyone would rather stay at home in thier PJs and watch day time TV. I know i do.
But... I am the worlds largest and biggest procrastinator.    I was planning on using my time home to catch up on grading, and also to lesson plan so I wouldn't be in the place I am here at 8pm on sunday night.

And this leads me back to Sunday Night, and the hatred I have for this type of night.  Here I am, avoiding the inevitable with facebook, blogging, unpacking a box... anything to get away from the lesson planning, the finishing of the new seating charts, the looming pile of notebooks...

Maybe tomorrow will be review of rules day....
