December so far

So I intended to post twice a week for the month of December, but time has flown by and it's already the 13th, so here's my best at catching up.

Since the 1st of December, it has been snowing, which has definitely helped make it feel more like Christmas.  I hope it sticks around for the whole month, but then I hope the sun comes out because it is COLD here!

Here in Germany they celebrate St. Nikolaus Day on the 6th, so we thought we'd join in on the fun. ("When in Rome…")

The kids were pretty excited about the loot in their boot.

This month has not been the kindest to my baby, Ruka.  A week after breaking his arm he got an ear infection.   Thank goodness for antibiotics, after a day he was feeling a lot better (but still not sleeping any better…Oh I'm so sleep deprived!).

After 2 weeks, the cast came off!

All that was left was a fixed wrist and a little bruise.

This is part of the hospital where we brought Ruka to.  Seriously, the most beautiful Hospital I've ever seen!

Last saturday we had our ward Christmas Party.  It was an American brunch plus photos with Santa!
Our photo with Santa.  Did we tell you all that we adopted a girl from Vietnam?  ha ha j/k!  Miya brought her friend Tram Ahu to the ward Christmas Party.  Miya is such a great little missionary!
Santa gave each kid a bag full of treats.  One of the treats was this large chocolate Santa.  Ruka just helped himself to this.  (Ruka kind of helps himself to whatever he feels like.)

This is a little bit of what our walk to and from Church looked like last Sunday.

This is what I saw when I went to pick up Emi from school the other day.  I love that the kids can go sledding and build snowmen during their recesses and after school.  This is definitely not the kind of school experience I had growing up.

Another picture of the kids at school building snowmen on the soccer field.  SO FUN!

With all the cold snow outside, the kids have mostly been hanging out indoors.  I love it when they all cuddle.

Mason has been working and writing a lot.  Maybe the snow/cold is a good thing for him.

The 2nd Advent Sunday.  We were invited to a family from our ward's home for the 1st advent Sunday, Mason took the girls and they had a beautiful traditional German dinner and lots of classic German Christmas treats.  Ruka and I missed out because we were sick…bummer we missed out.  (They did bring us home some treats though…Yummy!)

Miya and Emi's School Christmas Bazaar

Tonight was Miya and Emi's School Weihnachtsbasar.  It was a chilly night, but lots of people came out to see what all the classes made.  We of course had to buy Miya and Emi's little Christmas crafts.  There was music, cute performances (mostly kids singing English Christmas songs), food, a raffle, and lots of baked goods for sale.  I'm so glad that the girls are able to experience little things like this.  Yay for Christmas in Germany!

Miya's class booth.  They almost sold all the ornaments that they made.

I'm so sorry about the poor quality of these photos.  I'm not a good photographer at night while pushing a stroller.  Also, I forgot to take a picture of Emi's class booth…Oops!

Ruka Update

One week check up on Ruka's arm.
Ruka reading books in the waiting room at the doctors...

He got a little bored, so decided to run up and down the hall...

Mommy and Daddy didn't want Ruka to be too crazy, so they sat...

And waited till the nurse called Ruka in...

The Nurse changed and fixed up the cast...

Ruka wasn't really happy about it...

Until it was done...

Check out my Blue cast now!

Sister Young

Here's a little shout out to Sister Young (Miya and Emi's best friend).  She just got transferred, so we're really missing her.

Thankful

This week was filled with new experiences for our little family here in Berlin.  One of them being Ruka breaking his arm.  He fell off a chair and broke both the Ulna and Radius bones at his wrist.  We didn't even realize that it was broken because it wasn't swollen (hard to tell with his chubby wrists) or bruised, but he was fussier then normal.  So, after a couple of hours Mason finally decided to take him to the hospital and sure enough, it was broken.  He acted totally fine and happy up until he had to get the x-ray and cast put on.  Then he screamed and cried into Mason's shoulder trying to pull away (hence the large and not so pretty cast).  It's been an adventure getting him to sleep through the night since then, but it's definitely not keeping him from being crazy happy little Ruka.  I so grateful that my little man is fine and for my big man for taking Ruka to the Hospital.  I just have too many things to be grateful for during this Thanksgiving week.  Thank YOU!

Makrön and Nazi Stomping Grounds

Just another little family excursion exploring more parts of Berlin.
Nice butt!

This was the courthouse where the Nazis sentenced those responsible for the plot on Hitler's life.

The courthouse from across the park

Silly kids!

Tired and cold Mase (still so handsome!)

My mom would love this statue in her house…lol!!!

And then there are these macaroons…not as amazing as the ones I've tried from LA, but equally as beautiful and lovely.

Halloween and Hertha

Emi the Zombie

Miya the Vampire

Emi, Miya, and Miya's friends from school (Tram Ahn and Lilo)

Ruka was there too, as Kevin Mcallister.
The girls had so much fun. They went from store, restaurant, cafe to the next asking in unison "süßes oder saures," (something sweet or something sour). It was crazy how people had stuff ready or just gave each kid a whole pastry, an ice cream cone, balloons, money, roses from the florist and of course lots of candy. Ruka loved it too but was pretty set with the ice cream cone.

Our first time at the Olympia Stadium to watch Berlin's soccer team Hertha. The stadium is so impressively beautiful. This is where Jessie Owens stuck it to the Nazi hopefuls in 1936 and Leni Riefenstahl made the amazing 2 part film Olympia. Now it is a great mixture of neoclassical architecture with a modernized interior. It was awesome to watch the team so close, they had a lot great shots on goal. The only downside was the insane amount of second-hand smoke we each had to breath in during the game. Ruka kept saying "kick…ball." Hopefully one day he will play in the Bundesliga.
