Our Girl Thursday

Any guesses as to which family member never fails to make Grace smile and flail around like crazy?

Yup, it's Lilypie. Lily loves to go and talk to (yell at) Baby Grace as often as possible. Grace absolutely cannot wait until she can crawl/walk/run around with Lily. She's itching to go!

In this video you see a little glimpse of Grace's two new favorite things. One is that she likes to blow raspberries. It's pretty adorable. Second, she's starting go scoot backwards. She'll be on her tummy and lift her bum in the air and push back. She does a little one after I say "Gracie-cakes."

Lily's First Ski Trip

After getting new skis for Christmas, I was super duper excited to get out on the slopes. My mom had said she would watch Baby Grace for the day, but when we tried to practice bottle feeding with my mom, Grace would not take a bottle. Argh! So we devised a plan that my mom and dad graciously agreed to, where Shyla, Clay, Jim, Lily, and I would all drive up to the ski hill in the morning, then Mom and Dad would drive up around noon with Grace. Then I would feed Grace a couple times and they would drive home, and we'd follow them a couple of hours later when the slopes closed. Complicated, yes, but I really really really wanted to ski. Not only that, but I really wanted to take Lily skiing for the first time.

The ski area of choice was Silver Mountain, where none of us had been before, so we didn't know that you had to ride a gondola (the world's longest gondola) to the top, which took 30 minutes. So my dear sweet parents not only drove to Kellogg, but they also rode a gondola to the top of a mountain so I could feed my baby. I have a feeling this will be my only ski trip of the year because it was a lot to ask of my parents to do that, and they love me a lot. I mean, my mom loved me enough to give birth to me, and my dad loved me enough to hold the bucket for my mom to puke in while she gave birth to me. And I doubt anyone else loves me quite that much. So it looks like, due to my sweet child's stubborn refusal to take a bottle, this was my first, last, and only ski trip of the year. Luckily, it was a FUN one!

When we first got on the gondola, Lily was a little freaked out, especially when we went over the "bumpies."
But once she got used to it, she had a fun time.
Clay and Shyla all bundled up for the ride.
The Klein Clan (minus one) on the gondola.

It was snowy all day (the little pellet kind that makes you feel like you're getting a spa exfoliation on every run) and it looks like a blizzard in this picture. We're the little pink and white specks at the top of the hill.
Lily's favorite way to ski was between my legs where I would kind of hold her up and we would go "fast" together.

This was us going "fast."

After a couple of fun "fast" runs (the goal of which was to warm Lily up to skiing so she thought it was fun) I decided to teach Lily to ski on her own. She actually did really well, and loved it. She laughed and laughed the whole way down.
Lily perfecting her snow plow.

Shoot, I'm the world's best backwards skiier. :)

Lily made it about an hour out on the slopes before she dissolved into a heap of hungry, tired, cold sobs. So we headed inside for some grub.
My mom got a couple of shots of Goo on her first gondola ride. It looks like she's enjoying it!
Grace and I having a quick cuddle at the lodge.
She wasn't a huge fan of wearing my ski goggles*.

*When Lily and I first got off the gondola, I was getting us all dressed and geared up to go outside. The last thing I did was put on my goggles, then I said, "Come on, Bug," and started to head out. Well, Lily started looking up at the adults around her, and clunked around in her ski boots, and then burst out crying. Jim came up on her and asked what was wrong and she answered, "Mommy left me!" It was heartbreaking, but funny because she just didn't recognize me with my goggles on. It took a fair amount of convincing for her to believe it was me.

Christmas Morning

Merry Christmas everyone!

It was so fun to have Christmas at home this year. Since we didn't have to travel, we didn't have to open half of our gifts before we left, so we got to have a BIG Christmas morning, which was a lot of fun, and a little overwhelming. Lily had a lot of fun opening her gifts, but wanted to play with all of them as soon as she opened them. After a couple of hours, she was worn out from opening gifts and itching to play with what she'd already opened and we were having to practically bribe her to open more gifts. But it was a lot of fun, and she was super excited about all the fun new stuff to play with.

Lily opening up her stocking.
Is this not the cutest baby in the world?

Yay! A Five Little Monkeys book!
Santa brought new paci's!
Opening up our stockings.
Chewing on one of her new toys.
Chewing on the packaging for another toy.
Chewing on some wrapping paper. (Do you see a theme here?)
Lily masterfully opening one of her big gifts.
The Little People house! Woo hoo!
Grace cuddling in the blanket that our sweet neighbors made for her.
Lily playing on Grace's new keyboard. It was a hit with both girls.
So about halfway through Christmas morning, Grace opened the retro Fisher Price clock that you see here. Lily was in love. Her favorite game these days is "nap time" so she wound up the clock and played nap time while it played music. She probably spent the better part of an hour resting and playing nap time until we were finally able to convince her to start opening presents again.
Grace and Lily both playing nap time while cuddling in the rag blankets our neighbor made for them.
Still questioning the eye color. Hazel? Brown? They look pretty green in some lights.
The cutest Christmas present!
Grace enjoying her new keyboard toy. She LOVED it.
Grace's gift to Lily was doll clothes for Baby Sadie, and the shirt she got matched a shirt Lily already had. So when I told Lily to smile for the picture, she made the same face Baby Sadie makes. What a silly girl. :)
Grace likes playing with (chewing on) her new pots and pans.

Up Until Christmas

My sister, brother-in-law, Mom, and Dad all arrived on Thursday. Since then we've been busy playing and visiting. I'll give Christmas Day a post of it's own, but here's what we were up to before Christmas Day.

Shyla and Clay wasted no time bonding with their nieces. Grace was happy to smile for Shyla.

Clay read Peter Rabbit, which is Lily's new favorite book.

All the girls gather around Aunt Shyla.

Last week my Secret Sister gave me a gingerbread house kit, so on Christmas Eve we decided to give it a try. We weren't exactly skilled at putting the thing together and the roof promptly started to slide down. But it worked well enough and Lily had a great time decorating it.

Cheesin' for the camera.
What do I do with the frosting on my's finger?
Suck it off? Ok, that works!
Lily opening the last door on the advent calendar that Grandma Lala sent.

On Christmas Eve, Mrs. Claus sent a special gift for the girls...
...Christmas jammies!
Hey Lily, hold them up for a picture. That wasn't exactly what I meant... oh well that works.
Lily, the ever-so-helpful big sister, helps Goo open her Christmas jammies.
Ooh, those look warm!

Last year we started the tradition of going on the Journey to the North Pole boat cruise, and this year we did it on Christmas Eve. It was even more magical doing it on Christmas Eve, so I think we'll keep up the tradition of doing it then!
The whole family. Looking different directions, but excited to get to go see Santa!
Lily was far less scared of Frosty this year. Unfortunately, he didn't have candy canes this year, though.
Grace is in wide-eyed wonder on the boat.
This is one of Lily's "my-ohs" (smiles).
And another! What cute girls!

Lily and I out on the deck while Santa was reading off the Nice List. Lily and Grace both made it, whew!
Grace and Daddy out on the deck.

After our cruise, we went to Bonsai Bistro for dinner, and then went home to tuck the kiddos in before Santa came. Santa did come en force, but that's a post for another day!
