Uh...lots to say...
So, it's been, I dunno, like 4 months since my last blog. Obviously a lot has happened. And obviously, there are many, many pictures to post. Go to my Facebook page. :) Seriously, if anyone has tips on how to get pics in here easier than I've been able to...I'm open to suggestion. As it is, it's a huge pain in my bum to post them. Maybe it's because I have a Mac? Maybe I'm just lazy... That's definitely a possibility. Especially when my pics are on FB and everyone who even reads this thing has access to my pics there.
Let's see, I think I left off in March. So, in April, Shyla came to visit us over Easter weekend. My mom was also here. We went wine tasting and played with the baby. Saoirse learned to crawl in April...after everyone left of course! :)
In May, I celebrated my first Mother's Day with my our friends Tami and Larry Olson and their children; and our friends Lisa and Colin Morrissey and their little guy Jacoby. Tami and I had entirely too much wine at the Mother's Day Wine Tasting...but it was a blast! It was a bunch of local vineyards who allowed tastings all day. It was a perfect day. Shawn got me a nice bottle of wine - my fave Cabernet that is quite pricey for every day drinking. It's still hanging out in my cellar for the perfect occasion. Whatever that might be! :) Saoirse also got her first two teeth within a week of each other in May. And said "daddy" the day before Mother's Day.
In June, Saoirse started trying to walk all over with assistance. She also got two double ear infections. It wasn't pretty at all. Poor girl! We went to New Jersey/New York in June to see my brother and his family. We had a great time there. Saoirse took her first, very confident, unassisted steps. There were only a few steps taken but she did it all on her own and was so proud of herself. We also witnessed my nieces learning to ride their bikes without training wheels; though I feel a bit of a jerk since my brother wanted to teach them but they wanted Aunt Amanda to teach them. Oops!
In July, Saoirse and I went to Cody, WY to visit my dad. A big lesson learned is to avoid a 10 hour drive with an infant and only one parent. Seriously. Totally insane. On the way home, we stayed in Idaho Falls (about halfway) and that was a good distance for us. We enjoyed the trip to Cody to see my dad, his wife Suzi, and to meet her children and their families. It was nice to finally meet the people my dad talks so much about. My nephew Trey was there, and as always, it was nice to see him too. I miss seeing him often. Later in July, we took Saoirse for her first camping trip. She loved playing with the rocks, sticks, and especially the pinecones. She slept pretty good, too, and developed a love of breakfast burritos. Well, the egg part anyway. After we got home, she walked all on her own and hasn't slowed down since!
We also celebrated Saoirse's first birthday in July, even though she doesn't turn 1 until later this month. We had our family reunion here in Boise this summer and since everyone was going to be here, we just incorporated the birthday party with the reunion. She had a great time destroying the cake. Mama and daddy are going to get another cake for her actual 1st birthday so she can destroy it and they can get it on video!
So far in August, she has continued to perfect her walking abilities. She has gone on her first bike ride on her new trike that her Mimi got her. And she went on her first bike ride in the bike trailer that we got for her. We need to get a neck pillow for some added support for her but otherwise, she seemed to enjoy it. And by enjoy it, I mean she slept!
Saoirse has been amazing us daily with all the new stuff she is learning. She's picked up the sippy cup in just the last couple weeks, which was quite amazing for her since she hasn't wanted a bottle or anything other than "mama milk" for the past couple months. We're down to 2 feedings per day and will remove the morning one soon-ish. The nighttime one will be a harder transition, I think.
She is a talker. I'm not just bragging here, but this girl has a lot of words already! She says a lot of things to imitate but there are times she says stuff that isn't imitation. Words she has learned:
"Eat" (and then holds up food for mom to eat)
"Dink" = "Drink" (and then holds sippy to mom to drink)
"Thank you"
"Saoirse" (yes, she's mastered her own name - hilarious that she can say it but we have adult family members who hear it often and still can't say it! :))
"Hannah" (Daycare provider's daughter)
"See" (and shows you something)
"Doggie" (and goes to find the doggies; or when she sees the doggies)
"Uh oh"
"No" (of course)
"Ball"
"Please"
"Dirty" (I told her not to touch something on the ground that was dirty and she said it)
"Diaper" (not used often)
"Juice"
"All done" (mostly signs it)
"More" (mostly signs it)
"Mama"
"Daddy"
We're working on the signs:
"Please"
"Thank you"
"All done"
"More"
"mama milk"
"Eat"
"Drink"
Our daycare is working on these with her, too...especially "please", "eat", and "drink" now that she's mostly mastered "more" and "all done". I'm doing "mama milk" with her as we're starting the weaning process to help her differentiate between nursing and sippy cup milk (which still has some mama milk mixed in with it).
I'm sure there are more words she's said...but those are the biggies. She can also "tease" play - she played keep away with me with her sippy cup at breakfast a couple weeks ago. She had a blast! :)
Again, see my FB for pics...until I find an easier way to post pics here! :)
