Mike came to ask me my opinion and we talked about it for a few minutes. Here is what he submitted, I really liked his answer and completely agree with it, just thought id share...
I am very cautious when it comes to accepting an international assignment. The safety and comfort of my wife and future children would be my primary concern. Some are a little more adventurous than my family but the country we go to would need to have a stable political environment, be developed and safe, have English as a common language, provide rich cultural opportunities, and not be freezing cold. Accessibility to extended family is a high priority for us so the condition of a temporary rather than permanent assignment would make me more likely to accept. The list of requirements is mainly for the benefit of my wife and children as they would be the ones living through the day while I'm working. In relation to my work, it would need to be a position that I’m excited about and that I feel provides momentum in my learning and progression. Given my list of requirements, international work seems an unlikely part of my future, though I know I would be open to and carefully consider any opportunities to do so.
