Until We Meet Again

My Grandpa Pratt's 2 year battle with Leukemia ended this morning as he returned back to our loving Heavenly Father. I'm so grateful for the opportunity we had to go to Cedar City on Sunday to see him as well as stop on our way home from St. George on Tuesday to say our final good-byes. My Uncle Jim sent the family an e-mail this week that really explains the feelings and emotions we all felt that day in Cedar as we said last good-byes in this earthly state. Here is what he said:

"There are certain images and feelings from this visit I will carry with me for the rest of my life. While it was an emotional, tender experience, it was also one that has reconfirmed to me the importance of family. Really, isn't that all we have? I think so.
While there were many images, none were no more poignant to me than pulling away from you as some of you stood in the driveway waving goodbye to Lew. He waved goodbye as best he could, most, if not all of us realizing it would be the last time he would be here for Christmas. Then up the road a bit, Lew and I talked of heading for home, that there really is nothing like it. But it's family that makes it home and in the next life, that's the way it ought to be. He's heading for home, indeed, and I hope we all live our lives to merit returning home to be with him and family. That day is ever closer.
The aspiring poet in me had to try to capture this touching moment. For what it is worth, I hope I've done it some justice.
Heading Home after Christmas (2010)
A row of family
stands in sterile concrete drive
under pewter-gray hue
of wintry stratus cloud.

Their hands carve farewell
through thickening late afternoon fog
as precipitation falls down saddened faces.
It is the fog they fear most.

There must be a ray of light,
bluer skies at higher elevation.
beyond the bleak horizon,
perhaps Beaver Pass.

Disembarking is difficult
for all, even him.
Through shadowed windshield, he musters
a languid good-bye with feeble fingers.

The rearview mirror
fades them and life too quickly.
He knows it is time
to go home."

Christmas Events

The annual APX Christmas party was at Fat Cats this year. There happened to be a Santa there for an elementary school fundraiser, so I jumped at the opportunity to get Avalynn's picture taken with the jolly ol' man. Saying that she did not like him is an understatement!!
When I was a kid each year we got a new ornament that represented something we did that year. I want to carry the tradition on with our kids, so this year Avalynn got a little hula girl from our trip to Hawaii.
We went to St. George for Christmas this year and loved escaping the snow for a few days. Brennen's aunt and uncle had us over for dinner Thursday night, and made some delicious dutch oven chicken and cornbread. Christmas Eve was spent with my mom's sisters and their kids. We went to the Christmas sing-a-long at the tabernacle and then headed home for our annual white elephant gift exchange. As always there were lots of good laughs from the gifts! Avalynn loved opening presents on Christmas morning. After her birthday party she was a pro at the gift opening! We loved being able to spend time with many family members to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Avalynn's Sweet Shoppe

I had so much fun planning and creating Avalynn's 1st birthday, and am so happy with how it turned out! I'm one of those crazy people who start planning things way too far in advance, so her birthday party was started probably 5 months ago. Yes, I told you I am crazy! There are so darling ideas out there so I had a hard time deciding on a theme but went with "Avalynn's Sweet Shoppe" after seeing the amazing party thrown by Shelley on "How Does She?". Brennen has said that she is not having another birthday party until she is 10! We will have to see about that!

Avalynn's 1 Year Pictures

Once again Noelle did an amazing job of capturing Miss Avalynn in all of her spunkiness at 1 year old! I love that Noelle is always willing to go with my vision for the pictures and then once we start putting our ideas together it turns out amazing!

Party Designs

While planning Avalynn's 1st birthday party (pictures to come soon!) I have taken a liking to designing things for parties! I recently designed invitations and party circles for my aunt and one of my best friends's from high school. Here is a look at what I created. Keep in mind I am a rookie!

1 Year Old

I am still in shock that my baby girl is one year old! It amazes me how fast time goes by. Avalynn is so full of life and such a happy little girl. At 1 year she is:

18.6lbs (10th Percentile)
28.5 in (31st Percentile)

-has 4 teeth, 2 top and 2 bottom
-finally sleeping a straight 12 hours through the night
-walks with things, but not on her own yet
-can go up AND down the staris by herself
-is into EVERYTHING and such a busy body
-can sign: mom, dad, please, thank you, more, all done, dog, cat, baby, signing time, eat, drink, down, bye-bye, milk, cereal
-sings and dances whenever music is on
-gives high-fives
-loves to yell "Da. Da. Da" throughout the house looking for Brennen

Family Pictures

We had family pictures taken by the wonderful Noelle in October, and I realized I haven't posted any pictures yet. Here are just a few of my favs!

Dolled Up Shoes

If you know me well, you know that I love shoes and glitter. So when my friend Shauna (check her out, she's hilarious!) posted a tutorial for some glitter heels, I knew I had to add it to my project file. Although mine didn't turn out as cute as her Brownstone heels, they will be fun to wear every once in a while!

{Hawaii:: Day 20 & 21}

Our last 2 days in Hawaii we soaked up the last little bit of sun and beach we could get. On Monday we went to Haleiwa to a really calm beach that the kids loved playing in. The boys went on stand up paddle boards while Ann and I went to the shops in Haleiwa and devoured one last shave ice. Tuesday we spent the day at the Haynie's since we had to be out of our place by noon. We went to Shark's Cove and played and then went on this pretty ridge to watch the sunset, a great ending to a wonderful trip!
