Proposition 8

It has been a fun and exciting experience to be a part of something bigger than me, my family and even the church. I started out nervous and apprehensive as to what others were going to say and am now very bold and proud to tell people how I feel. It has been fun putting up yard signs whenever we see other political signs, putting flyers on people's cars in the parking lots, and talking to neighbors about this important issue.

I am really proud of Todd as he wrote this email and has been persuading a lot of the "soft voters".

Hello family and friends,

We wanted to write you all a quick note encouraging everyone to get out and vote YES on Proposition 8. We are not terribly political, but defining the family and setting clear limits to marriage really strikes a chord with us. Below we have listed some of the reasons why this is so important to us.

Failure to pass Proposition 8 will hurt children. If same-sex marriage remains legal, public schools will put it on equal footing with traditional marriage. Children will likely receive “age appropriate” information about sexual relations within heterosexual and homosexual marriages. You are all aware of the course this has taken in Massachusetts. Couple that with the school sponsored field trip to a same sex wedding in San Franciso earlier this month and there is no doubt as to the direction that this could quickly take. It's not like agenda isn't being pushed into schools already. Thank heavens the Governor vetoed Harvey Milk day.

The basic family structure is beneficial for society.
Gordon B. Hinckley said the following about families. "...the family is the basic unit of society. You can’t have a strong community without strong families. You can’t have a strong nation without strong families." We unequivically agree with this statement. We both are part of and know others who have for one reason or another not had a father or mother in the home. We have seen and know of the hard and woderfull work that has been done in these families, however these families and people are the exception, not the rule. It cannot be argued that the ideal situation for any family is to have the traditional Father, Mother and Children. In this structure lies strength.

Failure to pass Proposition 8 will hurt churches. The court’s decision will inevitably lead to conflicts with religious liberty and free speech rights. Society will become more and more hostile to traditional beliefs about marriage and family. Any institution that preaches or holds to their traditional values may eventually be pressured by the law to abandon these views and practices. Whether it is a Church, doctors office (ala San Diego earlier this year) or even adoption agencies.

Proposition 8 will not hurt gays and lesbians.
In California, the law provides for marriage-related benefits to be given to civil unions and domestic partnerships. Proposition 8 does not diminish these benefits.
Unless Proposition 8 passes, California society will soon undergo a profound change in its basic understanding of marriage and family life. That will affect everyone in numerous ways. Please join us in voting YES on Proposition 8. This truely is a critical time in the History of society. Make your voice heard. Share your thoughts with those that you are in contact with.

Thanks!
Amy and Todd

Cool Toys?!

Carson has officially turned into a teenager at the age of 4. He is complaining that we have no "cool" toys at our house. Day care has no "cool" toys. When we go to the park, he asks if we're going to a "cool" park, then asks if his "cool" friends are going to be there. What happened to my little boy?

Any ideas for "cool" toys? I have no idea what qualifies as "cool".

Apple Picking and Pumpkins

On Saturday we went to Oak Glen for some apple picking and to visit the pumpkin patch. It was very fun to visit the pumpkins, though we are too cheap to buy them from the pumpkin patch (we'll hit the grocery store later). The highlight was picking apples, though. We learned that you need to pick them with two hands or your perfect apple ends up on the ground and not so perfect. And it's very hard trying to tell the kids which apple to pick while holding them on your head and trying to get a picture all at the same time. We ended up with a lot of very small apples!! Our day ended with a old west gun fighting show--don't worry the good guys won!

Sharing and Underage Drinking

Two funny stories about Wyatt:

We were at playgroup and another mom bought Happy Meals for her children. Apparently these looked better than our PB&J so Wyatt grabbed a chicken nugget and started eating it. I told him those weren't his and he said, "I sharing!" I'm so glad he likes to share.

We went to Round Table the other night for pizza (not my favorite pizza but the kids love the game room). The kids were playing and Wyatt ran out of the game room and sat at a table that was empty except for drinks on it. Todd found him right when he was putting a big glass of beer to his mouth. Luckily he thought it was gross and the guy whose beer it was didn't even make us buy him a new one.

Countdown to Halloween

I got this great idea from my friend Tasha's blog to make candy clip-a-day countdowns to Halloween. So during conference weekend we made these along with a cool Halloween Advent Calendar from the Family Fun website. We got home and hung them up. A little while later Carson comes and tells me the babies are in big trouble...and I come running to find Wyatt and Emma with the scissors clipping all their candy and eating it!

So I fixed them up and now I'm spending my days babysitting the candy countdowns!!

SoCal Vacation

Since we live in Southern California sometimes we forget how much fun it is. Craig and Krista came down to help us remember. There were many adventures for the week and many exhausted kids for several days following.

The beachhouse is always a blast. Carson is spoiled and doesn't want to go to the beach anymore. Only "the beachhouse".

Sea World was a big success, only losing Wyatt once. Carson just squeaked in tall enough to ride the Journey to Atlantis ride. Just a hint, don't sit in front!! All the kids loved the funny Sea Lion show and Wyatt still likes to bark (or roar) like a Sea Lion.

Disneyland--always a magical experience. Carson loved riding on the Unicorn (Matterhorn). And he helped Craig be brave on the big fast railroad (Big Thunder Mountain) by holding on to him real tight. Emma was a great princess and learned how to bow real big. Wyatt got to see Woody and tell him "Love you!!"

Thanks Craig and Krista for helping us have a vacation right from home.
