3 silly faces that I love

Earlier this month we went to the open house of a photographer friend. She was doing a "Silly Faces Project". Here are a few pictures of the kids. They had fun, though the highlight for them was probably leaving with some yummy jello popcorn. :)

Goodbye 1st grade!

Avery had his last day for 1st grade yesterday. It's still hard for me to believe he's this old, and it still makes me feel a little old having kids in school! Will that feeling ever go away?!

So the obligatory first/last day of school pics! STOP GROWING!!!

I love this boy and how smart, kind, funny, thoughtful, and good he is. He's so excited for second grade. Yesterday he kept telling me "This is the last day I'm a first grader!" And "Today is the last time I'll ever see my 1st grade classroom". He's a little amazed at how old he is too! :)

Avery and Mom go the the zoo...alone?!

Avery is in the gifted program in his elementary school. Their big end of the year project was studying animal habitats and making dioramas, power point presentations and writing reports about their assigned habitat. Their activity was going to the zoo! I was able to find a sitter for the little kids and go with Avery. It was such a treat to spend the day with him at the zoo, we don't get much one on one time. He's a funny (and fun!) kid! We walked around with another boy who's parents weren't able to come. Since we drove down just the two of us we decided to stay an extra hour or so after the school group left. We rode the train, the tram, the African sky safari, fed animals, traveled from Australia to Africa and had so much fun hanging out. The only snag was that our lunches were in the school van, but the teacher got caught in line in Africa and couldn't get back to us at the assigned lunch time, so that ate up (ha!) some of our exploring time waiting for that, and the kids were starving by the time we ate! Other than that it was wonderful!

Jack graduates!

We have an {almost!} Kindergartner in the house!

Jack graduated from preschool this month. He loved going to school where Avery went, and loved his teacher. He took a few months to warm up to her (but that's just Jack), even telling me one time over the winter that he doesn't "talk to Miss Laurie, he just whispers to her in his brain", or something very similar to that. :) And up until about a month before school ended he was too nervous to ask to use the bathroom at school, so he'd wait til he got home. Good thing for him his school day was only 2 hours, unlike the time Avery held it all day! When we started preschool I couldn't get him to sing the alphabet, talk about colors or numbers, and forget about even thinking about getting him to sit down for 30 second with a piece of paper and crayons! Turns out...even though he wouldn't try for me he did know those things!! Yay, something sunk in! Within a few weeks of being in school he was writing his name, singing the alphabet and much more. What a relief!
He is very energetic at home, and slow to listen to certain requests. BUT - at school he is a perfect angel, according to Miss Laurie. Lucky her!! :)
We love Jack and we're very proud of how far he has come this year in preschool. He is so excited to go to school with Avery in the fall, it will be so quiet with both boys gone, but I'm so grateful they both love school so much!

Watch out Kindergarten, Jack's coming!!! :)

Jack's jokes

Jack's knock-knock joke of the morning

Jack: Knock-knock
Me: Who's there?
Jack: If you have no fear, you should be dead
Me:....if you have no fear, you should be dead who?
Jack: well, you don't have to cry about it!

Ok...?
He thought it was very funny.
