A very merry un-birthday

Sara's new ride in celebration of her half-birthday
(18 months).

At our apartment complex, there are sidewalks galore for her to ride on. A little biker's dream!

Okay, let's see this thing in action! (well, sort of.)

Thanks Mom!! She loves her new "car"!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

p.s. -- a funny side note: we purchased this bike on Saturday with money from my mom (Grandma Christine). The next day when we brought it with us to Rob's parent's house, they had also purchased the exact same scooter for her! So now she has two; one for our house, and one for Grandma and Grandpa Hinckley's house!

It's 1:27 AM

....and I'm still awake. Why do I do this to myself? Why?! I'm so going to regret it 6 hours from now when Sara wakes up. Uhhhg.

I call "heads"

I have a nephew who collects all the U.S. State quarters (and who loves coins and money in general), so when I was sorting through a pile of change in the car to see if any of the quarters had States on the back, I was surprised to find this:

A two-headed quarter!

My first thought was, "How did this happen? Was there a mistake at the mint?"

My second thought was, "I wonder how much this is worth!"

Well it turns out it's not worth anything, and you actually have to purchase these coins for about $7.00 each!! (but looky here, it must be your lucky day, 'cause there's one for sale on Amazon for only $2.25!)

It just so happens that magicians use these coins for magic tricks and such, which sure is handy for them seeing as it comes up heads every time.

So after finding out I won't be making a fortune off this lucky find, my third thought in regards to the coin was, "Maybe I'll just be like Two-Face from Batman (before he turned evil) and start leaving all my decisions to chance, using my trusty double-headed coin to decide the outcome."

Then I came to my senses and realized; that's just plain creepy.

So I just don't know what I'm gonna do with this lucky coin of mine. Maybe I'll give it to my nephew who will be sure to love it. Maybe I'll make a few bucks by selling it on eBay. Or maybe I'll put it to good use and become a children's party magician on weekends. Who knows for sure, but in the meantime, you might want to steer clear of making any "heads or tails" bets with me. Something tells me I'd win that bet every time!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

{p.s. Stop worrying about me turning into a comic-book villain. Of course I gave the coin to my nephew, and of course he thought it was pretty much the coolest thing ever. And let's face it; A 6-year-old boy having a double-headed quarter is much more socially acceptable than a 28-year-old woman having one. It didn't take two heads to make that decision.}

Subject: Request for Invitation

(Because we all do a little blog-stalking from time to time.)

Dear Casual Blogger,

You hardly know me, but I've been blog-stalking you for a while now, and I was disappointed to discover that your blog is now private.

Despite the fact that we only met once at the party of a mutual friend, I would appreciate an invitation to your blog so that I may continue reading about your hobbies and secretly viewing your family photos from the comfort of my personal computer. Or laptop. Or iPad. I realize you may have overlooked how making your blog private has inadvertently limited my access to it. I know that wasn't your intention, so I will forgive you. And honestly, I can't really blame you. There are some real creeps out there.

After I confirm your invite, I promise not to leave any embarrassing comments, or any comments at all for that matter. That way you won't even know I am viewing your posts, and we can just keep things the way they once were; you continuing to share posts with funny anecdotes and personal life stories, and me continuing to read them with the same dedication and enthusiasm as, say, a close friend or family member. Well I know I don't actually fit into either of those categories, but I'd like to keep tabs on you just the same.

Thank you, and I look forward to seeing the photos from your next vacation.

Sincerely,
Overly Interested Semi-Stranger

Do I have something on my face?

A text message from me to Rob:

"I think Sara and I could easily eat that whole thing of raspberries in one sitting."

Rob's appropriate reply:

"If I want any raspberries, I'll have to buy them and hide them!"

I think he may be right.

It was a Costco sized container. And they were delicious.

She likes to read

Sometimes Sara will walk into her bedroom and shut the door behind her, and then proceed to be very quiet in there. When I go in to check on her, I will find her sitting against the wall next to her bookshelf, happily and quietly "reading" to herself. I find this to be one of the cutest things she does.

She loves when we read to her, and even requests her favorite books and favorite pages within the books. She is at the stage where she learns several new words a day. She can repeat just about anything, which means we have to be careful what we say! She loves learning the meanings of new things and it's so fun to watch her little brain make those connections. My little baby is growing up!

Just a cute video

Words to listen for -- this?, camera, shoe, other shoe.

There's just something about watching it on TV

We don't own very many movies. And the movies we do own, we don't watch very often. Hence why we don't own very many. BUT for some reason, if we ever happen to see one of the movies we own on TV, we will sit and watch it (commercial breaks included) instead of simply getting off our rears to put the DVD in the player, enabling us to watch the movie commercial free. I don't know why, but we do this all the time.

Another weird thing I do in regards to television movie watching: I will watch the same movies over and over, any time they are on TV. What is it about a movie being on TV that makes me think it is worth watching? And what makes me think it is worth watching every time I see it on TV? It's a weird, weird habit, and it needs to stop.

What strange movie-watching habits do you have? And better yet, what movies would you recommend I watch so I can break the cycle?

Rob went to Singapore. And Cambodia. Here are some photos.

Rob was in Cambodia and Singapore from April 29 - May 9 for an "International Context" trip as part of his MBA program at Westminster College. If you're interested, here are some photos from his trip. I didn't feel like re-posting them all here. Sorry blog.

Here's the photo I made him take before he left on his trip. :)

And here's Sara happy to see her daddy after he came home! She's wearing two necklaces Rob brought back for me from Cambodia.

And here's one more photo from his trip.

To see what it's all about, you have to click here to view the rest of the photos! -- I promise it's not a trick. Really. It's not. Click there and you'll see more awesome pictures from far away lands. Promise.
