Our Little Dancer, Josie!

Josie had her dance pictures tonight. I couldn't resist taking a picture of her before we went. She looks so cute in her costume. Her dance recital is in a couple of weeks. I'm sure there will be more posts later about that. She loves to dance and is so excited to get on stage. She is a great dancer!! I can't believe how old she looks in this picture. Our little girl is growing up.

Girl's Weekend in St. George

My friends, Sara and Sandi, and my sis-in-law Jessi decided to head down to St. George this weekend for a girls retreat. It has been awhile since I have done this sort of thing so I was really excited to get out of the cold weather and head to sunny St. George. And sunny it was. We had a really great time. We went out to eat at some great food places, went shopping (of course), saw a couple of good movies and laid out by the pool. Yes, I actually did lay out by the pool. I haven't done that since before Taylor was born, so at least 12 years ago. It was so nice and relaxing. I had a really great time. Thanks girls for making it such a fun weekend.
We'll have to start planning our next retreat.

We went on a 3.5 mile hike in Snow Canyon to Three Ponds. It was so beautiful. The weather was perfect, warm and not a cloud in the sky. We hiked through tons of sand and finally made it to the end. The red rocks were truly amazing and it was so nice to be outside and not freezing to death.

Me and Sandi at Olive Garden, yum!!

Sara and Jessi, look at how much fun they are having!!!

  • My great husband, Steve, is always so willing to take care of the kids so that I can get out and do fun stuff. He did have alot of help from our family this weekend though. Thanks to my mom, his mom, Kelli and Allyson, who helped take care of my kids so I could go. I really appreciate it alot. I am blessed to have such a great family!

  • Even though it is fun to get away for awhile, there is nothing like coming home to my sweet family. Now I am hopefully relaxed and ready to get back into the daily routine of raising children. I do love my family so much. Being away from them makes me realize how lucky I truly am.
Jessi celebrated her 23rd birthday today.
Happy Birthday, Jessi. I hope that you had a great day!

Kate's 1st Hair Cut

So, I think most kids usually get their first hair cut long before they turn 3 years old, but Kate has never had her hair cut. She has the cutest curly hair and it really isn't very long, so I haven't really thought she needed one. Until the last few weeks. The top layers are getting kind of heavy and I decided it was time for a trim. I didn't want to cut off any of her curls, so we just barely trimmed it up and gave it a little shape.
This is before.....
... and this is after
You can't really tell from this picture but just trimming her hair a little bit made it even curlier than it was before. It is so cute. I have never seen hair so curly. We call her our little curlilocks.

Happy Birthday Kate!

Last week was Kate's 3rd Birthday. She is such a sweet little girl. She has been looking forward to her birthday for a long time. She wanted to go to Mcdonald's for lunch (yuck), so we went up to her daddy's work and picked him up so we could all go out to lunch. She was so happy. She got a brand new Barbie bike and lots of other fun presents. She was so excited. We had the whole family come over for cake and ice cream. She loved every minute of it. She enjoys being the center of attention. I tried to upload more pictures, but it wouldn't work, so I will try again later. Happy Birthday, Sweetie! We all love you so much. I can't believe my baby is already 3 years old. The time goes by so quickly.

Spring Break!

Last week was spring break and the kids had the entire week off. Yeah!!! We were all really excited to have a week off of school, including me. It is fun to have the kids home and to change our schedules a little bit. We wanted to start it off right so we went to the Discovery Park in Pleasant Grove and had lunch on Monday. It was beautiful weather and the kids had a lot of fun, even though I think half of Utah County was there. We went with Sharla and her kids. Then, of course, the kids wanted to have a sleep over so we had Noah sleep at our house and Brenden slept at McKenna's. It was a fun day.

Then on Friday, we wanted to do something fun so we went to Boondocks up in Salt Lake. I took Kayleigh, McKenna and Brenden to play laser tag while the smaller kids played in the "kiddie cove". Then they got to play the arcade games. It was fun for everyone.

A Tribute to Katelyn Grace!

As we are getting ready to celebrate Kate's 3rd Birthday this week, I have been thinking alot about when she was born. I thought it would be fun to post some of the pictures we took of her when she was born. She was only 2 1/2 weeks early, but her lungs weren't developed so she had to spend 8 days in the NICU. It was so hard to watch our baby girl be so sick.

This picture about breaks my heart. My baby girl on a ventilator.
I can't say that I handled any of this very well.
Kate and her daddy.

Taylor, Brenden and Josie were so upset that they couldn't see her after she was born. This was the first time that they were even able to see her and she was a few days old. They were so excited to have their new baby sister.

Can you see the IV in her head? I about died when I went to see her. The day they put it in her head they took her off of oxygen and I was so excited about that until I saw the IV on the top of her head. I had never seen anything like that before.

Sweet little Kate. This is just before we brought her home!

Grandma-Great Douglas and little Kate.

I think that this is the last picture of my Grandpa that I have. He died on July 27, 2005. This picture was taken on Mother's Day. Kate was almost a month old. He thought that she was so cute. He told me that every time he saw her. Yesterday, April 12th, would have been his 87th birthday. Happy Birthday, Grandpa! I love and miss you a lot!

What a sweet baby. We are all so glad that she is part of our family. She has completed our family in every way. She has grown up way too fast. I wish she could stay little forever, especially since she will always be my baby.

Riding Wheeler, the Mule, with Uncle Jon!

After we had dinner at Allyson's we all went outside in the beautiful spring weather to show James and Carli and their kids Jon and Allyson's farm. The kids were having a blast running around in the pasture and they all decided that they wanted to ride Wheeler, one of Uncle Jon's mules. My kids are usually very intimidated by large animals, but they all really wanted a ride on Wheeler, even Brenden, who usually hates that sort of thing. Uncle Jon took each of them on a ride around the pasture. It was really fun. As you can see, even Brenden really enjoyed it. He was really brave. I was so proud of him!

Kate rode with Brenden for a minute and decided that she wanted to ride by herself. We put her on alone for just a second because as soon as Wheeler moved it jerked her a bit and scared her. She got off really quickly after that.

Taylor and Josie had a great time riding a mule for the first time.

Climbing trees with the Oylers & the Millers!

My cousin, James and his family, moved to Utah from California a few months ago. We got together today at Allyson's house for dinner. It was so much fun. The kids love to see each other and play. The last time we went to Disneyland, we spent a day with them at the San Diego Wild Animal Park and the kids really had a blast. It was so fun to see them again. We are so happy that they live close to us now. Hopefully, we will be able to get together more often. That is Hayden, Ben and Brenden up in the tree, and Ryan, Carson & Logan, Josie & Kate, and Taylor on the ground.

Kate's Sad Face

This is our Kate when she doesn't get her way.
You better stay out of her way! She can be one mad little girl!!!

Utah Flash!

The kids had a Utah Flash assemby at their school last week. The Flash Fox and some players came. They had a blast. They gave each student at East Meadows 2 tickets to the Flash game last night. We decided that this would be fun for all of us to go together so we went. It was a lot of fun. Josie and Kate loved watching the Flash Dancers. Kate would clap whenever anyone else was clapping and she actually got into it pretty good. They started losing interest some time during the 3rd quarter and decided to play with my camera. As you can see, Taylor is not in any of the pictures. He decided he would rather go and hang out with his friends. I guess I can't really blame him. We saw tons of people from our ward and neighborhood. It was a lot of fun.
Look at my pretty girls. They love to pose for any picture.
They love to be silly girls, too.

Brenden had a lot of fun.
He got a new Flash jersey, so he was way excited about that.

Pinewood Derby!

We had our ward Pinewood Derby on April 8th. It was a lot of fun. Brenden and his dad worked hard to make a really cool car. They made a neat design and then put a sweet flag decal on it that made it look really great. Everyone asked Brenden how he was able to paint such a neat car. Brenden's car had some technical difficulties so he didn't win any races, but he got the award for the All-American Car!! Way to go, Brenden!

General Conference

This weekend was General Conference. It was so nice to be able to listen to our prophet and general authorities. It was really neat when they sustained our new prophet, President Thomas S. Monson. We actually watched all 4 sessions of conference. It was really amazing. We had Steve's family over for dinner in between the 2 sessions of conference and to watch the 2nd session. The kids did not want to sit and listen so I printed off some wordsearches and puzzles for them to do so they could at least be in the same room with us watching conference. It worked for a little while, but it is hard to sit still when they can play with all of their cousins.

Taylor thought it was so funny that everyone fell asleep during conference. He wanted to take a picture of them sleeping. Grandma said that she was listening with her eyes closed, but I think that Jessi, Devin and Jared were definitely sawing logs.
I love general conference weekend. It is so nice to be able to sleep in and relax on Sunday and have a week that you don't have to worry about your calling.

Spring Soccer!!!

Well, we started spring soccer today. At first I thought it would be a good idea to play soccer in the spring, but it was FREEZING. The kids didn't seem to mind though, it was just us that were on the sidelines that were cold. Brenden and Josie are both playing. Brenden's team is the Storm and Josie's team is the Fireflies. Since the weather has been so bad and we were out of town, neither one of them had even been to a practice. They were both excited and ready to play. Josie really likes her pink cleats and pink shin guards. The only problem is that of their 10 games that they play 6 of their games are at the exact same time. So today I went to Josie's game and Steve went to Brenden's. I only got pictures of Josie, but we will probably switch next time so I can get some pictures of Brenden. This picture is of Josie with her friend Aspen, who is in her kindergarten class. We didn't know that she was going to be on her team, so when she was at the game Josie was really excited. Josie scored a goal!! It was great. Steve said that Brenden played really well too. The 2nd grade league is getting so competitive. It is amazing how good the kids get when they are so young.

Happy Birthday, Steve!

Today is Steve's 37th birthday!!! Wow, is he getting old. I am so glad that he is so much older than me. We had a really busy day with Josie's writing celebration and soccer games, but we had everyone over to celebrate his birthday. I made his favorite cheesecake. I have been trying to decide what to get him for his birthday for quite a while now. He occasionally surprises me with really nice gifts and I never do anything like that for him, so I wanted to give him something really nice this year. We have been talking about buying a laptop for quite a while, so I decided to get him one for his birthday. They were a little more than I thought so I asked his parents and my mom to go in on it with me. But I think that he was really surprised and he actually liked it. I am so proud. I am famous for buying him things that he doesn't like. It is something that our whole family is enjoying quite a bit. Now we won't fight over who gets to be on my computer. Happy Birthday, Steve. I love you and hope that you had a great day!!!

Josie's Kindergarten Writing Celebration

JOSIE'S KINDERGARTEN WRITING CELEBRATION

Today was Josie's kindergarten writing celebration. Josie wrote and illustrated a story about when she and I went to Hickory Kist for dinner, just the two of us. She must have enjoyed it alot, to write her story about it. She had to stand up in front of her class and all of the parents and read her story. She was a little nervous at first, but she did an excellent job. We just may have a writer on our hands.

Jumpin Jacks with the Rowleys!!

Last Friday night, we met the Rowleys, our DisneyWorld buddies, at Jumpin Jacks. It was really fun. We all have a great time when we go with the Rowleys, because everyone in the family has a friend close to their age. Taylor and Jordan are really similar. They both like sports and really enjoy hanging out. Brenden and Maddie are both really silly and goofy and they have tons of fun together. Josie and Morgan love to play together. Kate and Logan like to play, as well. In DisneyWorld they would walk around holding hands. It was super cute. They also have a 1 year old named Gabriella. She is really sweet and fun to be around. Then there is Steve and Justin. They work together and have been friends for a long time. Jewel and I have gotten to be good friends. I really like hanging out with her. After Jumpin Jacks we went to Dairy Queen for treats. It was really nice to see our friends again. They don't live by us so we don't get to see them as often as we would like. We like reminiscing about our trip to Florida last October.
Brenden
Kate thought she was big and ran around going on the slides all by herself. I don't think she hardly stopped the entire time we were there. It was fun to watch her. She is not afraid of anything.

Morgan and Josie

Brenden

Speaking of being hilarious, Brenden is definitely the clown of the family. He is always making everyone laugh. He has a quick wit and can always come up with one liners that really are funny and clever. He thinks that he is tricky with this silly face. I couldn't get my face to do it until just the other day. He was really proud of me when I could finally do it. He is a funny boy!

Hilarious Kate!

So, we went to Wendy's the other night for dinner, and little Miss Kate decided to put on a little show for us. She was being so silly. She decided that instead of eating chicken nuggets she would just eat the ranch. She thought she was so funny and wouldn't stop doing it. It was really gross, but she thought she was hilarious!! Her personality has been coming out more and more. She is so smart and comes up with some really clever things. Last night Steve was showing some clip on youtube to the kids. It was a little boy who kept putting his finger in his brother's mouth. He had an english accent and kept saying, "Charlie, you bit my finger, it hurts." Well, Kate thought it was so funny, she kept repeating it, in her version of the English accent. It was so funny, I couldn't quit laughing. She picked up on that accent and kept saying it. It was so cute!
