Summer of ...
Let me preface by saying that most students know and can use properly f*ck and s*it. (I'm censoring for you, Mom!) Other than those two words, they don't really know any other "bad words."
Today, I was teaching 6th grade. The students were supposed to working on writing when one of the students said, "Anne Teacher! He said son of a bitch."
I tried to suppress my smile. I looked at the accused and said, "Please don't say that word."
This, of course, created a whirlwind of "Son of a bitch?" One student even said (in Korean), "S-U-N, isn't it?" When I smiled to myself, the smartest student ever in the history of our school said, "S-O-N."
Another student whispered, "Summer of bitch." I suppressed another smile.
One student kept repeating no matter how many times I said, "Please. do. not. say. that. word." I know that I should have ignored it. He was looking for attention, but I could also see that he was trying to do it to sneak behind my back.
Then the smartest student every in the history of our school said to the repeat offender, "What did you say?" Then lifted a finger gun and shot the kid. They both laughed and said something about guns in America.
I finally managed to get the kids to quiet down and focus on their work when another spoke up, "Teacher. In America, we say son of bitch, we shoot?" Need a translation? He wanted to know if he said son of a bitch in America, would he get shot. I laughed and said yes.
It settled down for a bit again while the students were writing. Then another kid piped up, "Teacher? Everyone America gun?" Translation: Does everyone in America have a gun? I told him no, but some people do. "Teacher, you have gun?" I laughed and assured him I didn't have a gun.
With a few minutes left of class the students were calming down and focusing on their writing. As I was walking up the aisle, behind the repeat offender, I heard him start to say, "Summer of--" then he saw me out of his peripheral vision and said, "[No, no] Summer, autumn, spring, and winter."
As if I didn't know where he was going with that.

Suzi Homemaker: Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins
Sometimes, when I can't get through my bananas fast enough, I get a sudden craving for banana bread.

This time, I wanted something a little different. I used my usual banana bread recipe, added chocolate chips, and poured the batter into my silicone muffin cups.

They definitely hit the spot!
The Sky Lately
This is such a random and dorky post, but I have to do it.
I get up between 430 and 5 during the work week. The sky at this time lately has been breathtaking.
I've tried to capture it with my iPhone, but sometimes that just doesn't do it justice.

September Goals
I can't believe it's September already.
I didn't realize how ready I was for autumn until it cooled down for a minute or two. Then I was desperate for skinny jeans, cardigans, and boots with apple and pumpkin flavored everything.
Except, I have yet to find a great pair of boots. And apples and pumpkins just aren't appreciated in the same way over here.
We're just four months away from the New Year. And that has me inspired. Also, I realized that I was nothing but a sloth for my entire month of vacation and that really threw me off. So, I'm making September goals.
1. Finish updating my blog. This is just getting ridiculous.
2. Get back into my gym routine. As in, no missed days. It's not impossible. There are no excuses.
3. Eat as clean as possible with little to no straying. (Not really sure how to measure this just yet).
4. Run at least twice. It sounds like nothing, but it's really hard to fit into my gym schedule. I go 6 days a week with alternating days of cardio and weight training. I guess I could run on cardio days. Let's still keep the number at 2 and then be really surprised when I run like 18 times.
5. Finish my last Professional Development course online. Read The Daily Five and The CAFE book.
And, as a sort of bonus goal, if I finish all of that PD, then I'll start studying Korean again.
That's it!! They're all easily obtainable goals, right? I got this.
