Childless long weekend....

Tonight we are taking Logan to my parents house to begin his super fun grandkids weekend - AKA - G&G baseball camp! Totally! My parents are so excited about this and Logan and his cousins Thomas and Piper will be at Grandma and Grandpa's Friday, Saturday and Sunday and we'll pick him up when we head out for the family party on the 4th! GOODNESS, right? That is a lot of Nathan/Lindsey time!

My parents have been looking forward to this weekend for a couple months now and are taking it quite seriously. They sent my brother's family and ours camp registration packets in the mail that we had to return to them to sign the kids up, they have had camp t-shirts made and a list of super fun things to do a mile long. Everything from actually doing some fun baseball stuff at the ball park to the splash pad in town to picnics in the park to rubber duck races in the creek (or local river if my parent's creek is dried up) and much much more! How cool is this going to be, right?

Nathan and I have joked that we want to follow along and spy paparazzi style in the bushes with our long zoom lens. I think it is just going to be a blast for everyone involved!

So what are we going to do between tonight and Monday? We do have some stuff on the docket... The replacement crib for Abby's room arrived today so that will likely get put together at some point. I'm only working a half day tomorrow and will spend the rest of the afternoon in my little scrapbook room hopefully getting the last two projects for others done so I can focus on LINDSEY stuff! (I realized a couple days ago the last time I did any scrapbooking for our family was in the spring of 2009!!! Since then I've been so busy/burned out from doing scrapbook for hire I've had no time to enjoy it personally. SO GLAD that is changing!) Tomorrow night is going to be a stay-in date night of some sort. Saturday morning - SLEEP IN! Visit my cousin's family who are in from CA and then to a friend's house for a 4th of July cook out/carnival thing with fireworks. Sunday is going to be Nathan/Lindsey time and do whatever we feel like day. And Monday is 4th of July part at my parent's house! YIPEE!

I think we'll have a great time - get some much needed couple time and enjoy prepping for little miss who will be here before we know it!

That is our plan for the long weekend! Can't wait to recap next week with all the fun that was had by all!

Super Hero Cape

I have had it in my head for a while that I wanted to make Logan a super hero cape - something cute, dress up worthy and down right cute. I was quite intimidated by my sewing machine which I've had for 4 or 5 years, but never really figured out how to use it. I understand how to sew, but I never had a clue how to set up my machine. A friend, Siri, came over a couple weeks ago and showed me how to do it all and I was feeling better about the process, but decided I needed a supervised sewing project. That is when I volunteered my sister-in-law to be my tutor. :) She happily obliged and we decided to do the capes for our boys - her son, Liam is 7 months younger than Logan. Here is the pattern we followed: SUPER HERO CAPE. She walked me through each step as she stayed a step ahead of me - it was perfect! I got more confident as I went along and am hoping to make curtains for our bathroom as well.

Here are Christina and I modeling the capes - we figured we deserved a picture before we showed the boys!

Nathan and Christina's husband, Oliver designed the logos for the boys. Nathan was really in to designing Logan's. He went through multiple drafts and ultimately sat down with crayons and drew out what became the final design. It is pretty adorable and encompasses the lightning quickness of SUPER LOGAN!

Logan loves the cape and has worn it much of the past few days. It is adorable on him, I can't convince him the collar should be folded down, but oh well. (Side Note: the pattern calls for velcro, but I suggest either using a smaller piece of velcro or replace the velcro with snaps - which is what I did. Logan was complaining the velcro was scratching him.)

It was a great project and I'm glad Logan likes it and I must say - he is even cuter in it than I thought he would be! :)

Family Fun Day!!

After what seems like weeks and weekends full of to-do lists and chores and projects I told Nathan that I was declaring Sunday was "Family Fun Day" - no project lists, no to-dos, no nothing! The only thing allowed was the three of us having fun! AND FUN WE HAD!!

After church I whipped up some Mac and Cheese - so fancy, I know... and we ate lunch on the new dining set we bought last week for our deck. (I love me some self timed pictures... click and RUN!"

That morning before church Logan found the remote control helicopter and we told him we would play with it after lunch. As soon as we were done he asked for the helicopter. We tried it outside, but discovered it doesn't really work well out there.

So inside we went and Daddy gave a good demonstration of how to fly the helicopter. It wasn't long before Logan was asking for a turn.

Such a look of concentration on his face in these -I love it!

After nap we decided it would be fun to head to a park in town that we had not been to before. Turns out Logan had been with my mom, but it was Nathan and my's first time. It was a blast!

The joy on my boy's face is just contagious I don't know how anyone could spend time with him and not enjoy the heck out of the whole experience?!

Logan loves to lean back when he swings and I am glad I was able to capture this carefree happiness he has.

Super Logan! - More on the cape tomorrow... (I made it!!)

While I ran to the store to get us some water (we were slightly unprepared for Family Fun Day) Logan and Nathan found a caterpillar. FUN!

We had a snack of water, peanut butter crackers and some fritos... snack time of champions... I'm going to have to plan better on our next family fun day as our food options for the day were less than stellar.

My two handsome boys - could they be any cuter?

We did have one ouchie for the day - Logan vs. Swing... the swing won the battle, but Logan went back and won the war!

Then the boys took turns climbing this tower thingy... (official name)

On our way out of the park I asked Logan what he wanted for dinner - he quickly responded, "Pizza and Breadsticks!" So we picked up a hot and ready and headed home for a backyard picnic!

Logan said he was listening to baby sister... Abby was saying, "Wake Up" according to Logan.

Nathan was given some fireworks as a thank you gift - kind of odd, I know. So we busted out the sparklers! Logan loved them! Nathan being the pyro he is asked if he could light a couple of the fireworks off. We have never done that at our house before, and we had no clue how old these fireworks were, but I shockingly agreed. Logan LOVED IT! But I think Nathan loved it more. ha! It was during the day and such, but Logan still found them to be very exciting! It was a great end to our family fun day!

Then it was off to bath, some more helicopter flying and bed. This was the prayer Logan said when he went to bed - prayed all by himself - "Dear God, thank you for today, thank you for Daddy, thank you for macaroni and cheese, thank you for pizza and breadsticks, thank you for da park, thank you for making helicopter fly, thank you for Momma, thank you for fireworks. Amen." (Then Nathan asked what about Abby?) "Dear God, thank you for Abby. Amen!"

So wonderful, such a blessing and SO happening again soon. We have already decided July 16th is our next family fun day and are making plans to be slightly more organized and just as much fun!!!

Fun with Daddy!

Nathan and Logan have always had a loving, deep, amazing relationship. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little jealous of it at times, but thankfully Logan has started to even out the love and affection. With me being all pregnant and slow he and Nathan have been two peas in a pod. I don't know about other moms out there, but watching your husband be a pretty great dad is pretty wonderfullly sexy thing! I digress....

The other night Logan went in the half bath to wash his hands. After a few minutes Nathan went in to see what he was doing. After another few minutes I started to hear giggling and of course went to inspect. This is what I found:

Silly silly Logan and Daddy... they have such fun together!

Monday night we went outside for some fun which started inside with, "I play catch with daddy outside now. Here your mitt daddy. Bye bye momma!" I convinced Logan that I coul dat least come out and watch. ha! Silly boy. After playing catch for a bit Logan quickly told Daddy he wanted to play tag. I'm not sure Logan fully understands the game of tag because after a few back and forths of being "it" Logan just wanted to be chased. haha! Then Logan climbed up on Nathan's shoulders and yelled, "On your mark, set, gooooooooo!!!!!" And off they went! I managed to catch a quick fly by picture with my phone. Logan was loving it and Nathan was sweating after all the running around they did.

I love me some handmade gifts!!

Last week I recieved an email from an online friend asking for my address as she wanted to send me something. I didn't really know what was coming, but was thrilled when a little shoebox arrived - but it did NOT contain any shoes.

Inside was a note that said (paraphrased,) "I have been saving this fabric for something special and when I heard you were having a little girl I knew it was meant for her!"

How cute is this little dress and diaper cover?!? I just love it!

She even offered to make me a couple more if I want to send her some fabric! How generous is that?! I'm pretty excited to put little Abby Rae in this dress!

Where has the time gone?!

Goodness! Is it really June 21st?! How is that possible? We have been flying through life these days... recap of the past couple weeks...

  • June 2nd (okay before my last post, but never mentioned it.) Nathan and my's 5th wedding anniversary! We went out to dinner at Grizzly Peak in downtown Ann Arbor... YUM! Serious YUM! Then we went to see the movie, "Bridesmaids" - wow was that pee your pants funny (especially if you are pregnant!) It was a really fun night and we enjoyed the heck out of it!

  • June 11-12 - probably the most productive weekend Nathan and I have had in months and months. It helps when you aren't running all over the place for other commitments. We were able to enjoy the weekend getting projects done around the house and enjoyed each other's company doing it. My dad came over Saturday morning to help out with a few things - that always spurs more productivity I think! :) Logan was a great help too - he was loving using Grandma's big "loppers" (as we call them) to cut down three bushes on the side of our house.

  • June 14th - maternity clothes shopping! Okay this was pretty epic for me. I was wearing the clothes from my pregnancy with Logan and I didn't buy a lot then so they were very well loved. I went with my mom and sister-in-law, Sarah (who is also pregnant and due 3 1/2 weeks before me!) Now - under normal circumstances shopping for me is an act of self inflicted torture and I DO NOT ENJOY IT. I'm a total debbie downer on myself when faced with the bad lighting and mirrors of dressing rooms. This trip however was a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed the heck out of it!! Lots of laughing - lots of gripping (in a funny way) - lots of "you really want me to try this on?!. it was a great time! My parents bought our clothes as part of Sarah and my's birthday presents - THANK YOU MOM AND DAD!

  • June 17th - we picked a name for our little girl - Abigail Rae! We'll call her Abby and we are thrilled thinking it will be the perfect little name for her. And I like the sound of "Logan and Abby" together. So that is a great thing to have checked off our list!

  • June 18th - a baby shower for my cousin Kendra who is due the end of July. It was a great day! It was a couples shower so a total family affair. I think it felt more like a get together/party than a shower - which was kind of nice! Although - Kendra is also having a girl and let's be honest - I just wanted to steal all the presents she got. :)

  • June 19th - FATHER'S DAY! I sang in church that morning while Nathan and Logan ran down to visit one set of his grandparents who live in assisted living. They were really happy to see him and Nathan was happy he got a visit in. Then we had lunch/nap time at Nathan's parents house. That afternoon we headed to my parents house (really like the fact that our parents only live about 20 minutes apart!) My brother's family was already there and Logan - as always - had a TOTAL blast with his cousins - Thomas (just about 5) and Piper (just turned 3.) The laughter that comes out of these kids is contagious and I love watching them love on each other - especially Logan and Piper - they are two peas in a pod! (I love that we are having babies at the same time again - will be fun to see another relationship develop with this boy/girl set!) We had a great time and enjoyed the country air and the freedom to run around with reckless abandon. A great time. We didn't take any pictures as Nathan forgot the camera and I opted not to drive home after church and get it. But it was a wonderful day that I'm sure we won't soon forget!

  • June 20th - I finished the process of sorting, washing, organizing and putting away all the hand me down clothes we have received for Abby. Her closet is a mountain of pink and I'm going to try my hardest to only buy other colors between now and when she is born! I think it is kind of hard to find anything other than pink for infant girls. But then again - I haven't really looked either.

Abby's closet before - basically a catch all for clutter and crap we don't know what to do with:

Abby's closet after! An explosion of pink! I'm pretty sure when I go do an shopping from here on out I will only buy non pink things! GOOD GOSH! I have all the clothes we have from 0-12 months in there and made size dividers with old shower curtain hooks that have a disk on the front - so then I could hang them backwards and still have room to write the size on the back of the disk with a sharpie... worked perfect! The baskets above are the non-hang up clothes that will go in drawers as she grows into those sizes. On the floor are more wicker bins with receiving blankets/burp cloths, shoes, and socks/bibs/diaper covers. Feels good to have a little bit organized!

So that has you all caught up. We have Nathan's sister, Christina and her family (Oliver - the hubby and Liam the 2 year old) coming up Friday evening to spend the night. Tina and I are making Liam and Logan super hero capes! How much fun will that be?!? We are pretty excited. They are not going to be like "superman" or "batman" they are going to be their own super heroes. Logan keeps asking when he is going to get his "super hewoo cake" and is quite excited about it. Then we have our niece's first birthday party on Saturday and then hopefully church and a quiet day on Sunday. Sounds pretty perfect to me!

Glad we are more current on the blog now! woohoo!!!

Tractors!

This morning we met Nathan's parents, grandparents and sister at a park in a nearby town to look over some antique tractors! Logan was pretty thrilled - especially after Momma made him wait so she could do a quick shop at a local kids consignment store.

(side note: Children's Orchard is awesome. They had a fill-a-bag event and could buy a large bag -$15 - or a small bag -$5 - and whatever you could fit in the bag from certain marked clothes you could get! I opted for the large bag and fit 41 pieces of clothing in there!!! When I totaled up my savings it would have cost me $115 to buy all of that at their regular prices! SWEET!! We were pretty thrilled! A bunch of stuff for the summer for Logan and also some little pink clothes for baby girl!!)

Back to the tractors... Logan had a blast! He was able to climb on almost each and every one which thrilled him to no end. We spent a couple hours there and then headed home for lunch and nap time. Here are a few photos from the morning's fun...

Memorial Day!

We had a pretty busy Saturday/Sunday of Memorial Day weekend helping our neighbors get ready for their son's graduation party on Sunday afternoon. We were thankful that we had the opportunity to head out to my parent's house on Sunday evening, spend the night and have all day Monday to just relax and enjoy ourselves! And that is exactly what we did!

Monday started off with Grandpa's homemade french toast and sausage for breakfast - YUM! And then we quickly got ready and headed into town for the local Memorial Day parade. Logan was a ball of energy not really wanting to sit still - that is until the parade started. He was so into it - it was pretty adorable!

Here are a few pictures of all of us before the parade started.

By far Logan's favorite parts of the parade were the marching band and the horses. He announced to us when any horses were coming and talked about the parade off and on the rest of the day. It was all together pretty great. We loved that he was so into it!

It wasn't until the firetrucks and firemen came by that Logan really got into the whole waving part of the parade. He was waving so hard it looked as though his arm was going to fall off! So so funny. He was pleased as could be when someone actually waved back!

One of my favorite things... fly overs!!!

Someone discarded their flag on the ground. Logan was happy to pick it up, wave it around and take it home!

Once we arrived home Logan hopped in Grandpa's wagon for a trip around the yard. They even went across the bridge in the backyard and picked Momma a flower which Logan came RUNNING and YELLING in the house to deliver. He was quite pleased with himself!

Stomping through Grandpa's garden... they boy was having a ball. My parents have a fair amount of open land and Logan just loves being out there as we can let him just have a free for all! The live out in the country and it is fresh air, hardly any traffic and lots of hills and grass to play in. A FIELD DAY for a little boy like Logan!

We changed into our bathing suit and of course needed another quick drive of the tractor before we could switch gears to sprinkler fun. This time Logan drove!

WATER TIME! Logan was such a happy boy during this (shocker, right?!) At first he would only run around the outside edges and didn't want to go in too far, but after a few minutes he was following Daddy as they walked the same way through the middle of the sprinkler. Love his face in this one.

A quick break to take a picture with Grandpa in front of the Walnut tree he planted last year. It is growing fast!

In the above picture Logan said he was going to crawl through the sprinkler like a cat... this is apparently how a cat crawls in case there was any confusion.

With a little prompting from Grandpa and a demonstration from Daddy Logan was happy to give sitting on the sprinkler a try. Silly boy!

Aren't I just the luckiest girl to have these two guys in my life! Love them to bits!

After nap and some food Logan went fro another round of sprinkler time. He was so exhausted that he needed to take a break and eat two popsicles. He opted to lounge on one of the cushions from the deck. Looked quite comfy!

It was a wonderfully relaxing day - at least for me it was... I just sat and watched Logan run around. That was plenty exhausting for almost all of us! We didn't want the day to end, but sadly we had to go home and head back to reality the next morning!

Thank you Mom and Dad for a GREAT day!
