Our first time in Yosemite

This picture illustrates our trek TO Yosemite pretty well... it took a LONG time to get there!  We were tired and slept a little cold (though I was a sell out and had the only cot- I'm getting old and needy).  Our first "hike" was a site-seeing walk toward the waterfall.  Grant ended up using the pack we brought for Owen.  He looks like a 6 year old!  And Will said he weighed as much, too.

The 12-hour drive in the car and nip in the air was worth the breath-taking views of the cliffs, waterfalls and trees.  Even the "small" hikes offered amazing scenery.

Grant actually hiked well for a guy with short legs.  I bet he put in at least 2 miles each day before he broke down and refused to take another step.

Yes, he's holding this up all by himself.  Will had to lift it initially, but then Grant sustained it for the time it took us to snap a photo.

We left Yosemite one night early because we wanted to tackle some of the miles while the boys slept.  Plus, we figured we could camp somewhere pretty easily.  What we found out was that most camp sites off the highway charge $30 a night to sleep by a toilet and a pic nic bench.  Are they kidding?  We kept driving... and driving until we finally hit Bakersfield and gave in... for $20 and a lot of wind.  Waking up the next morning to play on reservoir beach was so worth it.  Grant is a man of simple needs...

Can you believe that the highlight of the trip for the boys was staying at a resort in Palm Springs on the way home?  I scored that one on Priceline and thought it was the perfect end to a LONG camping trip.  Grant said, "Can we stay here for another week?"  I told him to save up.  Just the other night he asked if we could go back to "that one hotel with the pools..."

California trip part I

We decided to take a trip to LA to visit Mike and Bri and witness the blessing of Roger.  Of course the beach was our first stop and a "must" see for Grant.  He didn't care how cold it was!  The theme in all of these pictures is Grant running.  He doesn't stop- that's how much fun he had.

Looks like Will, but this is Mike.

Can you see it was freeeezing?  Here's Roger and Owen sound asleep in their seats.

Grant and Celia loved the M.A.S.H. hike.  They were little explorers.

Tonto Natural Bridge

Waaaay back in March, when Sandy was visiting, we made a day trip to Tonto Natural Bridge, just past Payson.  It's a pretty amazing site!  Once we parked the car and saw all the old people with their walking sticks, we knew we were in for a VERY difficult hike.  The guide said it would take an hour.  10 minutes later we were there.  But it was so worth the "long" walk.

While Grant was climbing through the cave, it hit him that he had to go to the bathroom.  When I walked back, I said, "Peeeuuuww.  It stinks in here."  Grant confessed and I tried to teach him how to properly bury it... unfortunately it was all rock and no dirt.  My apologies to any future explorers.
