Opposites

Kacey is very into talking about opposites right now. She is always pointing out the differences in things. The other day I showed her how to eat a cherry, mainly that there was a seed in it that she had to bite around or spit out. I made it very clear that she did not want to swallow the seed and made a big deal out of that. She also had grapes. So for the next few days she would point at cherries and say "Cherries - seed" then point at the grapes "Grapes - no seed"

So it's alot of "This hot... this no hot" and "This David's, this no David's" You get the idea.

My favorite so far though was when we were at a playdate. She was eating crackers but called them cookies. At one point she looked at me very seriously. "This hand cookie, this hand no cookie......(Big pleading eyes....) Cookie please?"

"Kacey! David!"

That is what Kacey said when I asked her who was in this picture. My mom found it in a closet. It's of my brother Derrick and me. I was about 4 and he was about 6 months.

What do you think? If it didn't look like the 70's would you be tempted to say Kacey and David?

Conversation with Kacey

Very long but thought the grandparents would enjoy seeing how much Kacey is talking. It's a little less than normal since she is distracted by the camera though.

Travelling advice needed!

Hey moms of two, help me out with this one.

In a few weeks my mom and I (Jamie has to work) will be taking Kacey and David to Denver to visit family. We will be flying. I plan on holding David in the plane so no seat for him. Kacey has a seat and we will be borrowing a friends seatbelt attachment thing so she will not have her carseat in the plane.

Question is this: Should I take my Phil and Ted stroller to have in Denver in case Kacey gets tired of walking around (it is converted to a double right now so it holds both kids)? Should I just take the Snap N Go for David's carseat and assume Kacey will walk everywhere including the airport? Should I take both strollers and let my mom push Kacey in the P&T and me push David in the SNG, then we have the option of each stroller when we are there?

Kacey will be 27 months and David will be 3 months if that makes any difference. Also we will be there for a week.

Thanks for your suggestions and stories!

On the 7th day...

The Lord rested as he had created the universe....

Apparently it takes David 7 days to poop.

How is that for a comparison?

6 months...

David is wearing a 6 month onesie today. Oh sigh.... granted he has cloth diapers so his butt is bigger than average but he is still shaping up to be a big boy!

OH NO!

Yesterday, David and I were minding our own business and enjoying the peace and quiet of naptime. That translates to: I was relaxing on the couch watching crap tv while David was asleep in his bouncy chair. Then I heard it... a sound I have been dreading for 2 years.....

Thump! Thump! Thump!! The very loud patter of 27 pounds of adorable little girl running through the house. She arrives in the living room with a very proud smile on her face and says "Mommy! Kacey poopy!" Funny thing, my first response was not, oh let's go change your diaper, it was "How in the world did you get out of your room???" to which she replies "Kacey open door, self!" An even bigger, prouder grin. I grabbed my camera and asked her to stand in front of her now open door and let me take a picture of that smile. Thus begins a whole NEW chapter in our lives. She is no longer contained!
Please note the jammy pants she put on herself at some point during nap. I should have gotten a picture from the back because she couldn't get them up over her diaper so they only went as high as her thighs.

After all this fun and a diaper change, I let her play with my camera. Here are some pics she took, not too bad!

Whew! Pooped!

Today we were invited over to my dad's cousin's house for a BBQ and swimming. It all started at 12 and lunch was at 2 so we decided to just skip Kacey's nap altogether and planned on having her home and in bed by 6. She LOVES the pool and was in for a couple hours before lunch and then at least an hour after. Jumping like crazy and being the little fish that she is. We all had a wonderful time!

Here she is during a swimming break, relaxing with daddy

We ended up leaving around 4:30 and she passed out in less than 3 minutes in the car. We drove the 10 minutes home and I pulled her out of the car and set her down so I could get some stuff. She said "Noooooo mommy.." I asked if she wanted me to carry her. "yeeeesssss...." So I carried her into the house and she fell back asleep on my shoulder. I then plopped her onto the changing table.
She remained a limp noodle the entire time I changed her diaper and into her jammies. I then placed her in her bed where she turned over and was done for the night. I left the room and realized it was only 5pm.

8 weeks old!

*We weighed him this morning and he was almost 13.5 pounds!

She is definitely daddy's girl...

Last night as Jamie was reading Kacey a book she piped up out of the blue "Kacey love dada." and then she resumed the reading. He told me it brought tears to his eyes. Yeah, brought tears to mine too as she has not said this to me unprompted yet. I guess I'll just have to wait my turn. Lucky girl, having such a wonderful dada!

Things the kids say...

- Lilli told her mommy Kim the other day that Kacey is her favorite friend. Awwww....

- I was done reading stories to Kacey at bedtime the other night and I started to sing to her. She covered my mouth and said "Stop singing mama! Read book!"

- Also at that bedtime I started singing Row, row your boat, which I rarely sing but I had overheard Jamie singing to her and she said "No mama, daddy song! Sing Tinkle Star"

- Driving home from Alex's yesterday she piped up "Kacey not tired yet. Wide awake!" and about 5 minutes later "Mama, Kacey a little bit sleepy."

In 30 years...

these pictures will be in their slideshow at their wedding. The day that David met his future wife Lorelei.

Taline and Kacey approve the union.
David is already trying to make a few demands but Lorelei can relax knowing she will get her way in the end.
Was David really this small only 7.5 weeks ago??
Lorelei looks so comfy already!
Just AWWWWWWW.......

1002 posts...

WOW, just noticed that this is post 1002, I missed all the fanfare for 1000!! So here it is.... woo-hoo!!!!!

OK, now that is done with. Kacey, David and I went to Trader Joe's after gym class today. I remembered seeing little shopping carts last time we were there so I asked Kacey if she wanted to be my helper and push the cart. She got very excited and ran over to the big carts. I redirected her to the little ones and her face lit up. She started pushing it around telling me she was shopping. I picked out some strawberries and asked if we should get them, she said yes and put them in the cart. That was all I needed to do, she then started picking stuff herself! I had to stop her on a few things but we did end up spending a bit more on fruits that I normally would have. Oh well, as long as we eat it!

We also went to the treat area to put together a goodie bag for Alex. I believe in lots of treats for new nursing mamas!!! Kacey had fun with that too and kept picking stuff and looking at me very seriously.. "For Alex!" she would say as she put it in the cart.

It was pretty nice not having to push a cart and she just LOVES helping so much. I think we have found a winning combination!

I took this video of David this morning for Babu and Rie. I know I am not taking as much video and pictures of him as I did with Kacey but he just sleeps too much! This video is about as active as he gets...

Wide awake at 4am..

David woke up around 3 and I changed him, fed him, burped him, fed him again... burped him again... he refuses to fall asleep. Jamie said it was ok if I went on the computer and he could sleep through it. So there you go a picture of one sleeping man next to one very wide awake man. He's smiling in the picture, very amused by the ceiling fan... Mom I do not think I will be meeting you to walk at 6am...

Swim time!

Our local park has a little wading pool. Kacey is totally loving it! My mom had been able to go with us so I can be with David and she can follow Kacey around. Very good thing since her favorite thing is to "pretend" to fall down. We finally got her to stop doing it next to the wall...

We live where???

Yes we live in a suburb about 15 minutes north of Downtown Los Angeles and this is what we saw driving over to GG's house.

The Professional Poker Player....

and he whispers... "Just show me your hand... I'll tell you what to do..."
"OK", I respond "but please keep a poker face!"
"No! They aren't that bad...and shhhhh. I was trying to bluff!!"
"HAHAHAHAHAHAA!!! You crazy woman!" he says as he laughs. "They'll never buy it and you'll lose!"

7 weeks old...

.. and yes, that is a pink diaper sticking out... SO WHAT?!!

Night-Night Nana!

Last night was a very big deal for our little girl who just keeps growing up. She spent the night at Nana's house. There was no big reason, it was just because we thought she might like it. My mom has wanted her to stay the night for ages now but she just never seemed old enough to be away from home without mommy or daddy (I know lots of kids do it earlier but mommy and daddy just weren't ready!) So now that she sleeps in her big girl bed we thought it would be ok.

I got a big bag and let her pick out jammies and animals and blankets from her bed as well as a book. She packed it all in the bags and talked about going night-night at Nana's. I didn't know if she really understood so we were prepared for a late night visit from Nana and Kacey. When the night came and went, we assumed all was ok. I called Nana this morning and found out that it went fantastic! Kacey didn't miss us at all!!! Oh no! Are we happy that it went so well or sad that our little girl is growing up so much that she didn't miss us?

Nana said that they got home and watched some tv. She expected Kacey to just fall asleep on the blow up mattress in the living room while watching tv but I guess it was too interesting. At 9pm, Nana said it was bedtime and tried to lay on the mattress with her but Kacey kicked her off so Nana settled down on the couch. Kacey talked for a few minutes and then fell asleep! Sometime in the middle of the night Nana heard a thump and Kacey started crying. She assumes she fell the 4 inches off the mattress. She called her over to the couch where they cuddled a bit and then Kacey went back to bed.

Nana woke up around 6 to Kacey just laying in bed and talking to her stuffed animals. No fear or worries about where she was. A nice morning of breakfast and playing and then she came home.

Now Nana is talking about getting rails for her guest bed and clearing the guest room of breakables and putting in coloring books and toys. She suggested that maybe Kacey could come over once a month or so..... hmmmm... Kacey might be game but what about mommy and daddy?

Car shopping with Nana

Today David and I spent the day with Nana (Kacey went on Daddy/Daughter day and had a fabulous time!) and went car shopping. David was quite the trooper and rarely fussed. When he was in his carseat he slept and when we were shopping I had him in the Ergo and he pretty much always slept (or ate! Love how I can feed him in that thing AND talk to a car salesman at the same time.) By the end of the day, Nana had traded in her 17 year old Geo Prism* and bought a brand new Hyundai Elantra**. She is on cloud nine about it as it is her very first carlot purchase!! YAY Nana!!

*I bought the Geo 17 years ago as my very first brand new car. 5 years later I traded it in for my Mustang and my mom promptly went to the lot and got it back for herself and has had it ever since.

**Gotta get a picture up of her next to it soon!

Playdate at Taline's

We went over to Taline's house to keep her busy. Alex was very distracted lamenting the fact that she was 3 days past due with little Sprout. It worked out great, Taline got to smother Kacey and David and Alex got to relax. Kacey and I had a great time too!

I took this pic because I thought Sprout made for a very cute David holding shelf.

Happy Taline!
Happy Kacey!

The Strong Man!!

Just a quickie little post to note that David started pushing up with his arms today. He was on daddy's chest and pushed up. Later on I was burping him and I was slouching back at an angle and he pushed himself upright! His neck control is getting much stronger too. He really loves looking all around and soaking in his surroundings.

Damnit!

Hmmmph. this is somehow Kacey's new favorite word. Not sure where she picked it up. I say dagnabit (yes, seriously, I do) I haven't noticed Jamie saying it so that leaves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Sesame Street and Nana Pat....

He pees like a toddler...

Oh yes, my boy pees alot. I realized this this weekend when we switched him to cloth diapers. I was using infant inserts and he was leaking like crazy. Not a good start. I changed the inserts to the same ones I use for Kacey and he stopped leaking; however, they are completely soaked through in 2-3 hours. WOW. I had heard of boys that were "heavy wetters" but I didn't realize how much. This means that when he does start sleeping through the night, he will most likely wake up wet. Even if I double stuff he just might not last 8 hours.... hmmm... not worth switching back to disposables but.... but what? Hmmm... anyone out there CD and have a "heavy wetter"? We are using a mix of BG's and FB's if that helps....

4th of July Party at Dash's House

On the way to Dasheeeee's house, we stopped to get Kacey's hair cut. This time she climbed right up onto the kid seat shaped like a rocket and sat all by herself!! The last couple of times she had to sit on my lap, wow, she is getting so big! She watched Miss Jessica very closely to make sure she did a good job and kept smiling at her at regular intervals. I was just so proud of her. :)
We then got to Dasheee's and she got her swimsuit on.
The hostess with the mostess showing off her dessert table.
YUMMY!!!!!!
Cranberry juice for the lil ones...
Sangria for the big ones!
