David Doctor Visit

It's official, he is huge. We went for his 3 month appt yesterday and he weighed in at 17 lbs, 9 ozs. That puts him in the 97%. WOW! His height is 25 (Kacey is 34 right now) which makes him 75%. His head is tracking at 50% at 16.25 inches.

He got some shots and did ok at the appointment but last night was a rough one. It started in the evening with inconsolable crying. I finally got him calmed down and to sleep but he continued to wake up every 2-3 hours screaming at the top of his lungs. It would take 5-10 minutes before I could calm him. Very surprised Kacey never woke up. Jamie ended up moving to the couch around 3am and I left David in the bed with me the whole night. Thankfully he has seemed pretty much back to normal today.

Our house has lots of charm. One thing that we loved when we bought this house was this woodburning stove.
It is not very child friendly though. Kacey has been very good about not opening it and rubbing her face in all the black soot but since David is a boy I am thinking we may not be so lucky in the future. We also have not actually used it since Kacey was born and are not likely to in the next few years. Our house is only about 900 square feet so we decided the potential storage space was more important than charm at this point and we have temporarily removed the stove. It is a lovely decoration in our garage now. Here is what we put in it's place.
Not as charming but much more useful and much easier to clean up Kacey's toys. David even has 3 bins of toys in there!

The other day Kacey was ready for a bath and David needed one too so we combined the two and let her help. She really loved this and David seemed to also!

Here she is at Chipotle. She didn't want to sit at the table with Tom, David and me. My little girl has a very independent spirit.
Cooking up some dinner! Love the piggy apron little Nathan gave her for her birthday! It even has her name embroidered on it!

Kacey the scientist!

Taline's grandma (Oma) is a scientist. She studies insects, what a cool job for a grandma to have!!! She is using our house for a study on ants and came over to collect some data. Kacey got to help, I think we have a future scientist in the works!

David's first laugh.

I was sooooo excited. I had David on my lap and got him to laugh. It was a full blown, from the gut laugh complete with a high pitched squeal. I put him down, grabbed my camera and got him to do it again on video. I just went to upload the video and it is corrupt, won't play. ARGH!!!! I have this video that I took later but it just is not the same. I am so sad :(

BTW (This all happened on the 25th, a little over 13 weeks old, about the same timing as Kacey!)

Last night David pooped...

and that isn't the point of this post! The poop leaked onto Nana (that's what happens when he only goes every 5-8 days!) I went and got him and started cleaning him up as Nana went to the bathroom and started cleaning herself up. She said she had poop on her shirt so I called back that I would get her a shirt to borrow when I was done with David. Next thing I know, Kacey is behind me opening my closet, she pulled out a shirt, took it to Nana and said "Here Nana! Shirt!" She then came back to help me find shorts but I couldn't find any that would fit Nana so I gave Kacey some jammie pants and after Nana put them on, Kacey pushed them up on her legs to make them into shorts.

It just amazes me all the time what she understands, what she pays attention to and how she problem solves!

So smart...

Kacey is very into the moon right now ever since Jamie showed it to her with his telescope. She now associates the moon with night time (when it is brown outside.. weirdo!) and likes to find it if she is still awake.

This morning I took her into her room to change her diaper and the light was off and the shades were drawn, she said "Dark! Kacey see moon!" I told her that it was only dark in her room and not outside. She said "Kacey see moon inside!" I told her that there was not a moon inside to see. She replied with "Kacey see moon inside.. TV show!"

3 years ago today...

I was at home resting after having done IVF in the morning. Who could have possibly guessed that 3 years later I would be doubly blessed?

Weekend Fun!

We had a very fun and busy weekend. Jamie and I were going to a wedding in Long Beach so my mom went with us and we got a room. Fortunately the wedding and reception were in the same hotel so it worked out great.

First I got my hair done, Kacey spent the morning with daddy while Nana came with me and David. She strolled around town with him while Karin did my hair. David fell in love with Karin and I was a bit afraid she wouldn't give him back!
We then all piled into the car and headed down to Long Beach. The original intent was to go to the Aquarium but what should have been a 40 minute drive took 2 hours! AGH! The Red Bull Flutog (sp?) was this weekend and jacked all the traffic up. We scratched the Aquarium idea and went straight to the hotel and then headed to the pool for a bit before we had to get ready for the wedding. Kacey enjoyed dragging her froggy suitcase along!
Here we are at the wedding with Jules and Kristen.
I went up between the ceremony and reception to feed David and get him to sleep. Worked wonderfully! I was then able to stay at the reception until midnight!!! In the morning, this is how i found poor Nana sleeping. I guess Kacey likes to take up more than her fair share of the bed!
View from the pool area.
On Sunday we went to my Aunt and uncle's house to celebrate Renee's birthday. Kacey spent a couple of hours in the pool and even jumped off the diving board a bunch of times!! This girl has no fear!

Kacey wants some cake!
Happy Birthday kiss for Renee!!
Driving home we saw some of Santa's reindeer.

Quiet time

This is proving to be a HUGE success. The last couple of days I have read her one or two books then hugged and kissed and said goodbye. I leave her door open a crack with the threat that I will close it all the way if she opens it more or cries. She does neither. She plays all over her room (looks like a tornado went through it by the time I get her up!) and then she climbs into be asleep. Today after her book she even said bye to me first.

Yesterday I watched her on the monitor and she was awake the whole 2 hours. She had fallen asleep in the car for 10 minutes on the way home from a playdate so I figured that just ruined her sleeping. She never cried and played quietly the whole time. When I got her I realized she had a dirty diaper. Duh! Dumb mommy. So today I told her to please tell mommy if she gets a poopy diaper during quiet time. It's ok to open the door to tell mommy that. Low and behold, 5 minutes after I left she opened her door "mommy? Mommy? Kacey poopy! Mommy?" I figured she was lying but I checked anyways and there it was! So I changed her diaper and told her she was a very good girl for telling me she pooped. She just beamed and was so proud of herself! I then told her it was still quiet time and kissed and hugged her and left. I watched her play on the monitor for about 20 minutes and then go to sleep! TA-DA!!!

I have also been getting her up around 3:30 - 3:45 even if I have to wake her and this is helping nighttime bedtime tremendously! No more crying for an hour, yay!!!

David has been getting harder to transfer during daytime sleep. He will fall asleep nursing and I used to be able too just put him in his bouncy chair and he would stay asleep. Now he is popping awake. So a couple days ago I started laying down in our bed with him to feed him after I put Kacey in her room and he is falling asleep. I then quietly slip out of bed and he sleeps for a solid 2-3 hours. (Disclaimer, no blankets or pillows are around him, he's totally safe!)

So yay! Mommy is getting her own quiet time and everyone is happy! Now let's make sure to enjoy it while it lasts!

Day 1 of quiet time

Over the weekend we skipped naps pretty much and it went ok. Kacey doesn't really get tantrumy or anything when tired, she just gets a bit loopy, rolls her eyes alot and gets a bit more defiant when you ask her to do things. So the weekend went pretty well and she went to bed at night a bit better.

(In case you missed the previous posts, she has been falling asleep for nap around 2-2:30 no matter what time I put her in her room and waking around 4:30. She then won't fall asleep at night until 9 or 9:30 no matter what time I try to put her to bed. I don't like the late bedtime and would prefer she went to bed around 7 so I was thinking naptime might be coming to an end.)

My plan for today was to get her in her room around 12:30 and let her have quiet time. We got home from a playdate a bit later so it was a bit past 1 but I got her in there and told her she didn't need to nap anymore. She really liked that idea!!! I turned on her light and opened a window shade. I told her she was going to have quiet time and no napping. David and I were going to leave to have our own quiet times and she could read books and play and anything she wanted to do. Well she flipped out and started crying. I ended up reading a few stories to her and left her crying. I watched her on the monitor and she cried for a few minutes as she sat looking out the window. After less than 5 minutes, she went to her bed, pulled her blanket over her head and went to sleep. Sound asleep by 1:40. I hear her now at 3:40 waking up, so a 2 hour nap which is normally fine with me!

Quiet time didn't work as I had planned but hopefully the earlier nap will mean earlier bedtime and I will still get what I wanted all along!

Watermelon Festival!

This weekend was the Watermelon festival at our local park. I remember going to this as a kid and thought it would be fun to try! Kacey was way too little for most everything but she did like eating free watermelon and some ice cream. She also got to play 2 games and won a prize each time. Imagine that! We were there a couple of hours and it was actually well worth it. Next year will be more fun watching Kacey go on rides but I think she really did enjoy just looking at them this year.

Playing the duckie game. You fish for a duck and on the bottom is a letter that corresponds to the size prize you get.

Kacey got to pick her own prize and got a penguin.

We told her she was too short to go on the rides and had her stand by the sign. She kept repeating "Kacey too short, Kacey too short."
She won this water gun game (with a little help from mommy!) and got this little dog. She gave the penguin to sleeping David and carried the dog around instead.
Yummy watermelon!

For the babybook:

David peed on his sister today while she was helping daddy give him a bath!!

Kristen and Jules

After Lauren's party we went over to visit Kristen and Jules. Kacey played a little Guitar Hero while Jules played MarioKart.

At the end of the night she called Jules daddy. :)
Wait a minute, have we been replaced?

Lauren's 2nd Birthday Party

Kacey got to wear her new Birthday dress that Grandma Rie and Grandpa Babu gave her. It was perfect!
