Happiness is.....

David is sleeping in his bouncy chair. He just woke up, looked at me and smiled, then went back to sleep.

Random Musings....

* Last night I asked Kacey "Do you love mommy?" Her response "No, I not love mommy. I love daddy. I love Kacey's daddy." So tonight I tried again. "Do you love mommy?" She looked down and said "Yes and I love my daddy too."

* Kacey wants one of these even though all she can do is sit on it.

* Recently she has taken to pooping on the potty randomly. When she says she wants to, we let her. The other night she did it right before bedtime. I went to put a diaper on her and she said "NO! big girl panties!!!" I told her she couldn't because it was bedtime and she had to wear a diaper at bedtime so she gathered up all 6 big girl panties and took them to bed with her. She slept with them in her arms.

* On Mondays, David and I are taking the mommy and me class that I took with Kacey when she was a newborn. We are very lucky to be able to take it with Alex and Lorelei!

* This has become my new favorite picture of Kacey and is my wallpaper on my phone. It just cracks me up every time I see it.

* The last couple of days have been hard on David. I think he is getting ready to pop a tooth. Lots of drooling, not much eating, inconsolable crying and frequent waking after difficulty falling asleep. The night before last I ended up sleeping on the couch and bouncing him to sleep in the bouncy chair every hour or so. It was about 3am when I decided I will not be having a third child.

* At dinner tonight, Kacey had a chicken leg. She got all excited about the bone and was talking about how she "found" the bone. I asked her if she had bones too. "She looked at me like it was a very stupid question and said "Yes! I have a chicken bone!"

* David is starting to get the hang of his exersaucer. He doesn't play with the toys much (although he does a little and that is fun to watch.) He is really enjoying rocking around in it. I got this little video:

* Before "quiet time" I changed David's diaper and laid him on Kacey's bed so I could wash my hands. Kacey was all ready to be read a story and decided she wanted to read one to David. I came back from the bathroom and this is what I found. This makes the 3am wake ups and the teething and the "No love mommy" all worth it. (I may even rethink that 3rd baby someday.)

6th Annual BBQ

Since we bought this house we have had a BBQ every year. It's a fun tradition that we almost didn't do this year. We were just too plain worn out! We finally decided to just to keep it going and I think it was well worth it. Kacey and Taline looked ADORABLE in their matching outfits and little Lorelei looked simply scrumptious in the outfit that the girls wore 2 years ago.

Let's look back....
Kacey and Taline with their daddys in 2008
again with their daddys in 2009, a little harder to pose
and here they are in 2010, catch them together if you can!
Little Miss Lorelei and Auntie Tish, hard to imagine she'll be running around next year!

Little Miss Sicky

Kacey woke up yesterday with a runny nose, cough and sneezing. By lunchtime she had a low 100 fever and was complaining her head hurt. We had no plans so it worked out to do a stay at home in our jammies day. David liked it so much that he went to sleep at about 8:30 am and slept til noon. I alternated Motrin and a generic Tylenol and she was pretty perky all day but only ate Yogurt melts and crackers. I put her down for quiet time and she was asleep before I got to the couch to turn on the monitor! Poor girl then took a 3 hour nap waking once to cry about "inside her head hurts"

When she was awake she seemed to really like telling me over and over again "Kacey sick, I feel bad, I sick." She talked to my mom on the phone and told her all that too almost like she was proud of herself.

Today was more of the same but her fever broke this afternoon. I hope it is really gone and not just medicated away. We are hosting a BBQ tomorrow and about 70 people have RSVP'd. I just sent a email out letting everyone know about sickie in case they want to cancel coming but I REALLY hope Kacey is 100% better tomorrow. Send good thoughts our way please!!!

Just try to watch this and NOT smile....

Episodes in potty training...

I am not potty training but I am happy to encourage Kacey when she wants to use the potty. She talks about wearing "big girl underpants" and I have told her she can when she starts peeing in the potty and not in her diaper.

Yesterday after quiet time she had a poopy diaper so I was changing it. As I was about to take it off she said "More poopies coming out!!!" I closed the diaper real fast and asked her "Now??" She said no and I offered to let her use the potty after I cleaned her up and get more poopies out there. She liked the idea so off we went.

She hung out on the toilet for a few minutes and then peed. She got this look of surprise on her face and then immediately jumped off the toilet and ran to her room screaming "Kacey peepee in the potty!!! Kacey wear big girl underpants!!!" I giggled to myself and told her she had to come back and wipe and flush the toilet and wash her hands!! She came back for a wipe but then ran out of the bathroom screaming again that I didn't have the heart to stop her. She got her Elmo panties and sat in the hallway putting them on. She couldn't get them over her butt so she asked me for help. It was all so funny and cute. We then flushed the toilet and washed hands and I put a pair of pants on her as well so if she peed it would have more place to go than just the floor!

For the next 1.5 hours I set a timer and every 15 minutes asked if she needed to use the potty. "No mommy, no peepee and no poopoo coming out!"

She never had an accident but then we needed to leave so we had to put a diaper back on. I told her she could wear panties again today when we are home. Let's see if she wants to again.

Lunch with Nana and Oma

Every year we throw a BBQ and for the past 2 years Kacey and Taline have worn matching outfits for it. On Friday, Alex and I went shopping for their matching outfits and both grandmas joined us so they could keep the older ones entertained while we shopped. It was sooooo nice! Just like old times.... Alex and I pushing little ones in strollers as we shopped at leisure. No chasing a 2 year old or them getting bored. The grandmas were happy, we were happy and most importantly, Taline and Kacey were happy!!!

First we had lunch and David even sat int he booth all by himself (for about 2 minutes!)
Oma wanted in on the pic!
Kacey showing off her pretty curls!
and a silly little video of Kacey shaking her pretty girls like a madwoman and David sitting by himself.

Fun with Taline!

Today we went to lunch after class with Alex, Taline and Lorelei. We walked in and the host saw the 4 kids and said "Would you like to sit in our back room?" We were very happy to and had the room all to ourselves. The girls were great while eating and then played a game of chase when they were done. I got a little video, the end is a bit funny when some more people come in, the girls become enraptured.

I got a couple of pics as well but let's look back a picture of the girls at lunch at La Cabanita 2 years ago when they were about 6 months old.
My how they have changed!!!!

Kacey took this picture, I think she did a great job.
They decided they wanted to sit at their own table.

I took this at class today. Kacey LOVES riding around in these cars.
Here she is showing off an adorable dress her Nana Rie gave her.

DO NOT DISTURB!!!

Kacey is getting ready for college! (yes, in case you can't tell for sure, those are Elmo panties hanging on the doorknob!)

Pool of poop.

Oh it was glorious!!! Not the pool of poop but the 7 days in Denver when David pooped every single day. I thought we had turned a corner. He pooped before we left for the airport on Wednesday and I was so happy. But then we got home and he didn't poop again. Until today. Hence the pool of poop. I was doing dishes and he was in his bouncy chair. He started grunting.... and grunting... and just kept.. going.. I finished the dishes I was doing and headed over to clean him up. I expected it to be bad but ... oh my, the pool he was sitting in... No I did not take a picture, thank goodness I have some standards. That and the fact that he also had plopped his hand in the poop and had rubbed it on his face. He was grinning like a madman. Oh my.

Speaking of underpants.. yeah, just trying to segue here. During quiet time, I walked by Kacey's room to see she had reached out and hung a pair of her big girl Elmo panties on the doorknob.

She told me today that her daddy would "make a spaceship and get Kacey the moon." I told Jamie and he said he would get right on it.

I stood David up next to the doorway where I have marked Kacey's height from time to time and he is the same height she was at 8 months. No wonder he has outgrown his 3-6 month clothing. Yes, he is only 3.5 months old. Oh my again.

Yesterday my mom had to go to a seminar and could not come over to watch Kacey while I took David to our infant class. I asked my cousin Renee and she happily agreed to come over and play with Kacey for a couple of hours. Before her quiet time I told her that I would be gone when she woke up and that Renee would be here. As it worked out I was still here chatting with Renee when she woke up and she woke up screaming. "I WANT MY MOMMY!! I WANT KACEY'S MOMMY!!!" I tried to calm her down but after 10 minutes Renee kindly pushed me out the door. This was the very first time since Kacey has been able to speak that I have left her with someone other than Jamie or my mom for longer than 10 minutes or so. A real "babysitter" type event. I gotta tell you, it broke my heart to walk out the door with her screaming. I got to class and told the teacher about it and she assured me Kacey would be fine. I called Renee half an hour later and confirmed that all was well and came home to a happy little girl with freshly painted pink nails. To prove she was ok, she asked for "Nee" all day today and broke out in hysterical tears this afternoon when Renee wasn't here.

Thank you Sue!!

Many years ago, my Grandpa Walden built a playhouse for my cousin Renee and then my cousin Megann used it too. My aunt and uncle still have this house in their backyard. In the past years it has been more used as pool toy storage and the last couple of times we have been to their house Kacey has opened the door with a bit of longing. I think she knew it could be fun inside if only.....

Well this past weekend the if only... happened. Aunt Sue surprised Kacey with a cleaned out house, complete with kitchen toys, food, etc and even a chalkboard that said Welcome Kacey!! I think Grandpa Walden would be very, very happy to see his house being used again. :)

Kacey with Aunt Sue.
Having fun with mommy.
Welcome Kacey!
I love this shot of the aforementioned Renee with her boyfriend Adam and the little Mister. I have another picture where she is more posed but this is just such a cute candid!

Just like his sister

2 years ago I was taking the infant class through Glendale college. I LOVED the class and was so excited when I found out I was pregnant and could take the class again! Doubly excited that Alex would have Lorelei at a similar time and we could take it together, just like old times!

Well this past Monday the teacher asked us to answer this question: What makes your child special? (or something to that effect)
My answer was the same for David as it was for Kacey: His smile. He smiles constantly and it is gorgeous. He is just such a happy boy. How oh how!!! did we ever get so blessed?

Here he is enjoying a light of thing in his crib.

Such a good big sister...

I have a friend that had a second son the day before David was born. Her older son is about Kacey's age. He did not react as well to the new addition to the family and actually ignored my friend for a full week after she got home from the hospital. She says that now he is getting better but still is acting out a bit.

When Jamie's parents brought his baby brother Dave home, his grandparents were there too. A week or so later when they were leaving he was quite upset and felt they should take the baby with them, as they all arrived at the same time, shouldn't they leave at the same time?

We have been sooooo very fortunate with Kacey. She loves David and just the perfect amount. She will show him toys, hug and kiss him before bedtime and will be the first to tell you he is too little to have food. This just makes me so warm and fuzzy inside. I think she is really starting to like having him around. I walked around the corner the other day and found her in front of him just chatting away and showing him her daddy's camera. He was so pleased and just started at her with such admiration.
A couple of days ago we decided to get the exersaucer out because... well you know.. we just have so MUCH EMPTY SPACE! we needed to figure out how to fill it all up. Kacey had a ton of fun helping daddy put it together and showing David how all the toys work. She likes to tell us that she used to play in it when she was little but now she is a big girl.
