Before I forget...

I was in the garage going through old boxes of mine trying to get rid of stuff and condense it all into less boxes. I came across a bunch of old diaries of mine and even found the one where I wrote about Jamie and my first date! Kacey came into the garage and wanted to read my "ancient history" with me. Not sure where she got that from! I found a blank diary and gave it to her. She immediately got a pencil and started "writing" in it. She spend the next hour or so talking about writing down her ancient history and she even drew a picture of a volcano for emphasis.

-------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday, Jamie saw an awesome Craigs list post for a bunch of the mini traveling Thomas Trains. The seller happened to live about 45 minutes away from us but only 1 mile from a dinner we were going to, talk about coincidence! So we ended up buying 75+ trains for $65 and a bunch of tracks and roundhouse type toys for a bit more. It was quite a deal! We agreed to save the trains and tracks til later but gave them each 2 trains to play with in the car. By the time we got home Kacey was sound asleep and transferred to bed. David was wide awake. Both Jamie and I were dying to set up some track and so we did. David was engrossed instantly. Biggest smile ever and just kept running the trains around. We finally put him to be around 8:30! Only about 2 hours past his bedtime! but he was so darn cute and having so much fun!!!

We left the track setup overnight. In the morning I heard Kacey get up and go into the living room. She then came running into our room "GUYS! The Easter Bunny came!!! You have to see what he brought!!!! Come on, get up!!!!"

----------------------------------------------------------
Tonight Kacey decided she wanted to read David his bedtime stories and she asked me to leave them alone. So I watched them in the monitor and it brought a tear to my eye. They were sitting next to each other in the rocking chair and she "read" him The Hungry Caterpillar and Goodnight Moon. It was so sweet and so adorable and she looked so serious and he looked so happy. Those are the moments that make me fell so lucky to have two adorable kids.

She then decided she wanted to go to sleep with David (normally he goes in their room and we them read stories and put Kacey to bed in our bed. We then transfer her when it's time for us to go to bed.) So I laid down the ground rules, no jumping on the beds, no yelling, no playing, go to sleep and absolutely DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR! Over the next 45 minutes I went in 3 times to calm them down. At one point the were running from bed to bed and hiding under the covers when they saw the camera tracking them. Kacey would get up on David's bed and wave at the camera and say "Hi mom!" That led to one of the times I went in. :)

Eventually they both actually settled down in their own beds and went to sleep right around 8pm. I am pretty surprised and impressed. This is a big deal!

---------------------------------------------
Before going to our room for the night, I went in to cover them up. I guess I was making a bit of noise clearing some things away from Kacey's floor, David got up and walked over to me with a very weak "Hi" He then hugged me and started to collapse. I hugged back, carried him to bed and he just rolled over and fell back asleep. It was just so sweet.

--------------------------------------------
I think we are in a very sweet spot with the kids right now. They are playing so well together and even starting to gang up on the parents a bit together. It's getting so fun to just sit back and watch them together. I can really see love growing between them. It's just so amazing to witness.

Random pics

I took Kacey to the mall to help me shop for a dress to wear to my cousin's wedding. On the way she fell asleep so I left her like that for an hour and played games on my phone. Ahhhh... relaxing!
We then got some hot chocolate. Yummy!
and an ice cream. She picked lemon sorbet and said "Mmmm, this has a delicious lemon flavor!"
She then tried on some of the dresses that I tried on. The shopgirls LOVED her and were very impressed with how well behaved she was. She kept bringing me shoes and accessories! She is a born shopper, watch that wallet daddy!!!
I am trying to do more craft projects and here is one success. We painted egg carton cups then stuck a green pipe cleaner in them and voila, flowers!
Here David is "feeding" his kitty.
and now it is drinking. Poor thing got completely soaked!
Although Kacey loves books, I cannot get her interested in writing letters to save my life. She does have a natural interest in math though. She will randomly ask "what is 3 + 4?" Then she will count on her fingers and tell you the answer. I printed up some math sheets from education.com and she loves doing them. Here she is with daddy. Very serious. Rumor has it, her uncle Dave did math problems for fun as a child and still does to this day!
Daddy took the kids to Descanso Gardens and sent me these pics on his phone. Don't know who the extra kid is but the pic is cute.

They are starting to play with each other and get along. It's wonderful to see!
My favorite pic of the two of them.
Here they are searching for ladybugs. They can do this for quite a while.
Kacey and her pet bird "Hannah" They are inseparable.

No longer resembles a baby....

Yesterday morning I walked into the kids room to get David and he was jumping up and down yelling "Out! Out!" He then leaned over so far that I thought his big head might take him over the rail and cause him to break his neck. Jamie and I talked about it and decided he is never going to climb out of the crib so let's just take the front rail off and make it a toddler bed. We were hoping it would be a fairly easy transition since he really does seem to love staying in his bed. So off the front went.

At first he walked in the room and want "Noooo.... noooo...." Then Kacey got excited and started jumping on it and telling David to join her. He finally relented and realized there was much fun to be had.

I was out later that night so Jamie got to put him to bed. He said he took him in and tucked him in and then grabbed the monitor as fast as he could. He said David jumped right out of bed and started walking around the room. He went to the door, looked at the doorknob and then laid down. After a minute or two he got up and walked around some more, played with a couple of toys then climbed back into bed and went to sleep. It all took about 5 minutes.

This morning at 5:20am I heard a weird noise, thought it was the cat but then realized she was on me. So I got the monitor and David was not in bed, I panned over to the door and there he was playing with the doorknob. I was very surprised he wasn't jumping on Kacey!!! I went and let him out and began the day. As far as I know he never woke up at night. So we will see how tonight goes!

This morning, we were on a "David is growing up roll" and decided to turn his carseat around a month early. He was only slightly amused. Kacey thought it was great though and kept saying she loved our new car.

So cheers to growing up!

Easter!

WOW! The Easter Bunny came to our house, hid eggs and ate all the carrots we left out on a plate for him!

A little morning video for Rie and Babu....

We then went to GG's house for breakfast. (Thank you GG Hazel for this beautiful dress!!!!)

Later that day Aunt Sue came over to measure Kacey for her flower girl dress she will be wearing in Cousin Renee's wedding. This is the dress for the 6 year old flower girl. Kacey is soooooo excited to be a flower girl!!!

Play time.

I'm at an indoor playground with Kacey and its so much fun to watch her these days. She is finally starting to play with new kids and not just be on her own. She is usually more attracted to older girls and will follow them around for a little while, then ask their name. She gets so excited and runs over to tell me she has a friend and then follows them everywhere.

Interesting thing happened though. She was playing and 3 boys, maybe 4-5 years old, went up to her and said "get the girl!!!" and started pretend shooting her. She came running to me and "hid" beside me. She was clearly not scared and was smiling so I left it alone. After a while they started shooting at me and that was when I said something. "It is not nice to shoot a mommy. Only shoot at your friends that WANT to play the shooting game with you". They left and I noticed a woman call one of the boys over. She asked him if he was being respectful and chastised him for disrespecting me. I immediately liked her. Later I saw her and told her how much I appreciated what she said to him. She said she was his nanny and was trying to teach him better manners and respect. I love her!!!! She asked what they were doing and I told her. She then went to all 3 and had a chat with them and made them come apologize to me. It was actually quite sweet and sincere. So if I ever need a nanny I want her :)

Side note, I don't like the idea of boys "shooting" at anyone, especially kids that aren't a part of their game but I am trying to reserve judgement on it until David is 5ish and does it too. I know most boys get into pretend shooting but I still think they should be taught to only do it with each other and definitely not at adults out of respect. Is that naive?

Getting ready for Easter

This year I decided we would decorate eggs. Kacey seemed old enough to really be interested and make it worth the effort. So I boiled up 6 of them so we wouldn't have to do too many and got set up. My original plan was to do mosaic eggs where you dilute some white glue with water and "paint the egg" you then put scraps of tissue paper on and put more glue paint over that. Kacey did one and said it was too boring for her and begged to paint. I gave in and let her watercolor the rest of hers which made her very happy. David on the other hand, gopt very into the mosaic technique and did 2 eggs! He would paint and I would put on the tissue and he would paint again.

Overall it was a big success and lots of fun!

Easter party at Gwynn's

Gwynn (Dashell and Beckett's mommy) had her Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday. The kids had a great time and David really got into the finding of eggs. He carried his basket around almost the entire party! So here is just a stack of pics, pretty self explanatory so no need for labels from me!
