Blood!

Last week was my first time ever donating blood. I have to say I never thought I would do it, but Jer talked me into it. She really wanted to go before we go to Africa and I told her I would join her in her efforts. Most of you know my affinity for blood and needles so I won't say I was excited for this, but it turned out to be an okay experience. And I didn't pass out. :)
Jer told me that when she would go with her mom they would race to see who could fill up the bag the fastest. Me being a slightly competitive person, took that as a challenge. So we jumped on the bus and got the process going. Once they pricked my finger and told me I was definitely a bleeder I knew it was going to be a close race! Sadly though, I lost. But I still turned in what I believe is a respectable time for competitive blood donation. Jer finished in 4:33 and I finished in 4:55, not bad for a first-timer I say. Especially when the woman next to Jer took 15 minutes to fill her bag.
That was how we spent part of our Friday after work last week. The rest of the night we spent keeping our friend Tya company. Her husband was off fishing so we brought over some food and just kicked it at Tya's house. Apparently I invited myself over to a girl's night because they had all their nail polish and lotion ready to go for pedicures and what not. Jer even brought over her little massaging foot bath. Yes, I did try it out and it wasn't half bad. I also let my wife put some lotion on my feet (without kicking her, since my feet are pretty ticklish) and on my hands. I drew the line at the nail polish this time though. Morty, hopefully you're proud of me for that one.
After that I was ready for a nap so I just curled up on the couch while the girls made brownies. Eventually they made it over to the couch and we watched Baby Mama. Well, Tya and I watched because Jer was pretty tired by now. I had my nap before they even started the movie so I managed to watch the whole thing.
The rest of our weekend we spent at home, except for church. Saturday we babysat Andrew, Ana, and Henry most of the night. We had pizza, watched a movie, ate popcorn, played Deal or No Deal, and made some cookies. It was a nice night. Although Henry didn't seem to like us very much, poor little guy. After about an hour here he started getting tired and cranky, and the only one that could calm him down was Ana. It was pretty cute to see little Ana (I think she's 3) with Henry on her lap sleeping.
That's about it for now, here are a few pictures. Hope everyone is doing well!
Tya had her 30th birthday a few weeks ago, and her husband had a surprise birthday party for her up in Millcreek canyon. Jer and I were hanging out in our camping chairs while we waited for her to show up. Then we got to go hide in the woods and pop out to surprise her with the rest of the group. I told Tya welcome to being 30. :)

Here's a shot of some volleyball. I play in a coed league and Jer comes when my games aren't too late. Right now she doesn't have anyone to keep her company, but I like it when I look over at her while I'm playing. She makes me smile. In the picture I'm hitting a cut shot with my left hand around the block. It sure is nice to be playing again!

Jer and I ate Tya's house after we gave blood on Friday.

Me during my nap time on Tya's couch. I woke up as Jer came over to get my picture so I stuck out my tongue at her.

Sunday morning

Good morning. I'm waiting for my weekly Skype call with my parents (who are AWOL right now) and so I decided I could add some new pictures to this EXCITING blog. :)

This is me and Tya having our weekly cheese rolls, soup, cinnamon roll, and of course, Diet Coke. We love QB. And I sure like having a break of my monotonous week with lunch on Wednesdays!

Happy birthday to Tya this week. Her husband threw a surprise party for her last night. I told BJ if he ever did that, he would be a dead man.

Hello fellow bloggers and blog-stalkers! I recently heard that term and I thought it was funny. And fitting for some. Jer and I get that way sometimes, where we just keep following people's links around the blogging world. Anyway, guess we should throw out some updates on our life here in Woods Cross. Nothing too exciting but I'll do my best to make it worth at least tuning in for picture updates.

I'm still enjoying my job, and Jer is this close to quitting. If you could see my fingers right now you would notice that they are maybe a millimeter apart. At this point she is holding on until we get her work to pay us for the shots we are getting to go to Africa and our pet bills we've accumulated this year. Got to love that cafeteria plan!
We've bumped up our dates to go to Africa, so now we will be having an African Christmas! That will be a little weird I think, since it will be summer over there. We're pretty excited to go though, hopefully it all works out like we want it to. Other than that not much is going on, just the usual for us. Working, paying bills, trying to save for a house next year, and trying to make each other laugh. My new favorite time for that is while Jer is playing the organ in church. I choose to sit up on the stage with her but I hide behind the organ so the congregation can't see me. Jer can though. I like to make her smile. And snort, that's when I know I did something funny.
So, here are the pictures with a little update on what's been going on. Hope everyone is doing well!

Jer happened to get Moose with the toe polish as well, so it wasn't just me that got it. He seems to be a little more embarrassed about it though.

Jer and I watched some of her nieces while their mom and dad went to a play. We had a good time playing with the girls and watching a movie. Aria is the one that Jer is carrying around (cute mom) and Macy is showing us all her new school stuff.

This is how I babysit. I get the kid to fall asleep so I can fall asleep too. :)

Jer decided to make us some peach jam from some of the peaches we picked from the fruit trees in the back. I wasn't sure if I would like it much, but I have found it's great on toast!

Ha, scary. Jer decided she needed to dye her hair back to brown for her new passport picture. I got to do it. Jer didn't realize her makeup was smearing, guess we should get her the waterproof kind...

This is Mike. He is my friend. From forever ago. Seriously, I don't even remember when we met. He is an avid BYU fan and has season tickets. Being such a good friend, I occasionally get to go to a game with him. Thanks Kim! That's Mike's wife.

We got to the game a little early so we decided to walk around and look at the pre-game festivities. We tried the football toss but with no success. I would like to point out that I did manage to hit the picture of the receiver right in the number though. :)

Last but not least, one of my favorite foods since I got married. Jer introduced me to turkey steaks from Maddox, and since that time we have them almost once a week. Our most recent discovery is that we can make a real good turkey steak burger with fry sauce. Soooo good. On Saturday Mike came over once he got off work to watch the BYU vs. Washington game since we have cable. I decided we would be having turkey steak burgers instead of pizza for the game. Mmmm... Our other recent discovery is that we make really good chicken fried chicken with gravy. My mouth is watering just thinking about all this yummy food. Guess I should go eat something!
