First day of preschool and 1st grade!

My baby is old enough for school!  She is so grown up and mature for her age that I was really excited for her to do something that would challenge her a little.  Needless to say, preschool is a breeze for her. It is night and day compared to when I dropped off Sean for his first day.  No tears, no worries, she just went in and became the queen bee of the class.  When I would pick up Sean he wouldn't tell me anything about his day.  Kate on the other hand starts talking the second the door of the car opens and tells me every detail about the day.  She is amazing, and quite a cute little school girl.

Kate started school a week before Sean, so he got to take her to school in his jammies.

She only has to wear uniforms on Tuesdays, so here is her second day of school in regular clothes.

Sean's first day of 1st grade.  I don't know if Sean or I was more nervous about this day.  This would be the longest we've ever been away from each other.  He was all smiles going to school.  Picking him up was a different story.  He was completely upset that his teacher wanted him to keep his pencil box at school.  We spent a week trying to find one exactly the same as the one I bought a month ago so that he would have one at home and one at school.  Seriously?  Of all things I was worried about, I had no idea the biggest obstacle would be a pencil box.  By the way, I begged Sean not to wear black socks, but he had to have his socks match his shoes.

Kate is clearly not a morning person.  We dragged her little tush out of bed to go drop him off.

Sean was pretty excited to have his own desk and not just a spot at a table.  His teacher seems really nice and I think he will have a great year.

First day they both went to school.  Let me just say this may have been one of the most exciting days of my life.  Freedom!  I had over 2 hours all to myself!  What's a girl supposed to do with so much time?  The possibilities were endless!

Sean was the VIP for the 1st week of school.  He made a poster of all the things he liked to do and all of his favorite things.

Let's see, he has hike, camp, piano, swim, dance, space, Michael Jackson, sharks, wolf.  Yep that pretty much sums him up.

Sean turns Seven!

Sean, I can't believe you are seven!!  Where did the time go?  You are really starting to grow up now, and I'm so proud of you.  You are the sweetest boy I know.  We all love you soooo much!

Sean was pretty excited to get a Michael Jackson doll.  I found it on ebay.  It's a 1984 Thriller edition.  It also has 37 points of articulation so it can do any move that Michael does.  I need a medal for the coolest mom award, I know.  He also got a lego Buzz Lightyear from Aunt Em.  She was so fun and took him shopping for his present.

Sean decided he wanted to go to the aquarium for his birthday.  I had a heck of a time trying to figure out who to invite and how to get some of his school friends there, but I pulled it off without a hitch.  Well, except that I spelled Barnhisel wrong on his invitation.  Really?  You'd think I could spell our last name.  I guess I am human after all.

Sean picked out his cake to go along with the aquarium theme.  Have you seen this cake before?  Maybe it's because it's the same one he picked when he turned 4.  :)   Hey, Sean likes what he likes, and he doesn't listen to anyone's opinion.  I kind of like that about him...until I really need him to go with the flow, or agree with me on something important.

We picked up two of his buddies that live in our neighborhood, Sky and Gavin, and took them with us to the party.  The aquarium had 2 awesome party people that kept the kids entertained the whole time.  Love it.

The party planners did a scavenger hunt around the building to find different animals that went with their clues.  First stop, the sharks!!  Perfect!  A shark actually hatched while we were there, so now Sean has the same birthday as a shark!

Amy looks like she's having a good time!

Here are the kids reading the next clue.

When I asked Sean who he wanted to invite to his birthday, he immediately said, "Bella F."  She is both my kid's favorite person.  I went through a lot to track down her mom's email address, and we were so excited when she said she could come.  He also wanted his other little girl friend, Helen.  This isn't a great picture of them, but here they are petting the sharks with Sean.

Every single person we invited came to the party.  That was quite the group of cute little kids.  I was so happy that they all cared enough to go all the way to the aquarium for him.

Sean got quite the haul of gifts from all of his friends.  We spent the entire day playing with all of his new stuff.  I sometimes feel like I never really play with my kids.  I'm always busy getting so much done, that if I do play, I never really give them all of my attention.  Well on this day, I decided I was going to do nothing but play the entire day, and we did just that!

First we played with all the cool new pirate stuff that Aunt Shell and Aunt Amy gave him.  Sean loves the show, "Jake and the Neverland Pirates," and he loved his new spy glass and sword.  Then we moved on to the Buzz legos...

...about an hour later, we had yet another Buzz Lightyear to add to our collection.  Not so easy to play with.  Every time Sean flew him around, pieces would fall off.  After hearing him crash on the floor for about the 5th time I got the super glue out.  Now every time a piece falls off, I super glue it back.  It was a total mom genius moment for me.  I wish I would have done this on his other lego sets.  Once pieces fall off and get lost they are worthless toys.

We went to Red Robin for dinner.  Sean loves it, Kate hates it, but it was all about Sean today.  When we got home we could all barely keep our eyes open, so we put in the new movie Emily gave him (The Lorax) and had a snuggle adventure on the floor.  We all had a good long nap.  When we woke up we decided there was just barely enough light to take his new Storm Trooper skate board for a spin.  That wasn't as much fun as we had hoped.  Apparently it takes skill to ride a skateboard.  Who knew?  With Dad still asleep, I wasn't much help.  We came home and started to put more legos together.

We called it a night at about 11:30.  I don't think Sean and I have ever had that much fun together.  It really was a great day.  Happy Birthday pal.  Mom loves you so much.
