Bridal Shower for Liz

Amy and I threw a shower for little Lizzy.  I still can't believe she's married.  We had a good time putting everything together.  Kate loves girl stuff like this too.  She was a big helper.

I made cute party favors to decorate the table.  They are little bride and groom outfits filled with candy.

Amy's crazy boyfriend does mad cupcakes for a hobby.  I found a picture of this cake on Pinterest and assigned him a project.  He did not disappoint!  It was a serious conversation piece.  What other man would do something like this?  None I know.  Thanks Ian for donating your time and skills!  I love how the candy Amy bought for the belt was the exact same candy I used for the favors.  That wasn't planned, but turned out great.

I went a little crazy with the tissue pom poms.

Liz wanted a kitchen shower, so I made her a kitchen cake out of dish towels.  It was pretty awesome.

Cute little bride to be.  Wow I'm old.  This little lady looks so young and fresh.  She's got her whole life ahead of her.  So exciting.

Liz got more kitchen items than I currently have.  She will never be able to fit that much stuff in an apartment.  Time to take everything back and get some cash!

Congrats Lizzy, we are so happy for you!

Sean's first report!

Sean came home with a letter explaining how to do his first research paper.  You're kidding me right?  These are first graders we're talking about.  Nope, no joke.  He had to read a book, write complete sentences in his own words, do a bibliography, make a poster, and read his report out loud to the entire class.   I think I may have done that in 5th grade.  He did a great job and was even the first one to read his report to the class.  I was so proud of him.

Good lordy someone's FORTY!!!

For Randy's 40th birthday, I took him up to Snowbird for a night withOUT the kids.  Say what?  Yup, our first night alone in almost 8 years.  It was a good time.  The kids survived and Grandma survived too.

Sean and Kate really wanted to make him a cake.   All I had was a box mix and some kid decorations, but it worked for us.  They were pretty proud of it.

Happy Birthday Dada!!

Happy Valentines Day!

I was excited for Sean to make his first Valentine's box this year.  I asked him what he wanted to make and he said "Bucky" which is his favorite pirate ship.  I was hoping we'd have fun making it together, but he wanted no part in it.  I thought I could whip one out pretty fast, but this took the better part of 2 days.  He was so excited when it was done.  I "guess" it was worth it.  Next year he's getting a roll of tin foil and some stickers like everyone else.

Kate was so excited to take valentines to school this year.  She's watched Sean make his for the last 3 years, and it's finally her turn!!

She carefully wrote her name on each one.  I'm pretty sure all Sean wrote at this age was scribbles.
She looked so cute in her heart dress.

See ya later winter...

Dear winter, you really sucked this year.  We won't be missing you any time soon.  I don't know how many hours I spent putting on and taking off snow clothes this year, but it was A LOT!

Usually you might get one giant storm a winter that looks like this, but this is what our yard looked like for over a month.

Thanks to the never ending snow, I had to listen to this pesky creature tap at the dryer vent every day for weeks.  It sounding like someone was pounding a nail into the wall for hours at a time.

So far behind!

Is it too late to post about New Years?  My Grandma Pearlie's birthday is on New Years Eve, so we took the kids to her house and brought her a cake.  Hopefully my kids didn't completely ruin her day.  Let's see, we got a flat tire on the way to her house, Sean said some swear words he heard me say in the car as I realized I had a flat.  Then Kate threw a full blown temper tantrum over not being able to give Grandma Hattie's present.  I get the worst mom award for that day.  Sorry Grandma, maybe some day you'll forget what Sean said in your kitchen...but probably not.

Got some noise makers for the little noise makers.

Randy put on a pretty sweet firework show in the snow.

They seem to always play really well together about the day before they have to go.

BFFs for life.

Don and Jinx stayed over Christmas break too.  The kids love playing with Grandma Jinx.  She really is so much fun!

She always has some contraption that she's invented.  This time it was a hands free umbrella.  She is always helping Don up and down stairs and in and out of doors, and since it rains almost every day in Portland, she came up with this genius hat.  All you need is a chinese hat, some plastic, and some Christmas ribbon, and voila!
