7 months old!

Our little man is 7 months old! I thought my previous lists of his accomplishments were silly, because I thought I would always remember the things Rhett did at 2 months old, but it's amazing how quickly you forget.

So, here's a list of what Rhett can do now at 7 months. If you don't feel like reading, feel free to scroll down to the pictures :)
  • He reaches for anything and everything in his sight. He leaps and grabs at whatever is in his range. And if it's not in his range, he doesn't mind throwing himself to get it. This means he has almost rolled off the couch and our bed while we were standing there holding him
  • He LOVES Jasmine more than ever before. She follows us into his room in the morning, and once Rhett gives you his morning smiles, he's looking for her. And if Jasmine follows you down the hall, Rhett is looking over your shoulder at her. He also loves to jump for her (see bullet #1)
  • He has now eaten almost every Gerber Organic Stage 2 food that's available. That includes sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, green beans, apples, bananas, pears, and peaches. This week? Apples with strawberries! In the next few weeks, we plan on giving him little Puffs and Cheerios so he can practice feeding himself
  • We've tried a sippy cup a few times, and he seems pretty interested. There are a few pictures below of the first event :)
  • He's been sitting for a few weeks now, but now he's almost about to crawl! He can get up on his hands and knees now, and he is able to leap forward to get stuff but he's not very good at it. It mostly results in him hitting his face on the ground :) He started rocking this weekend though, so I think the beginning of the end is near :)
  • He has 3 teeth-two bottom teeth and the left eye tooth is coming through. When he smiles, you can see all 3 of them (and the back of his throat because when he smiles, he smiles with his whole head)
  • He has started waving! I noticed this when I said goodbye to him the other day at daycare. He doesn't do it every time, but it's totally adorable when he does. And, it makes it that much harder to leave him every morning!
  • He's very interested in his toys now. He will sit for an hour straight and try to put a ball in the toy's hole at daycare. I know, because I'm finally able to watch him on the daycare webcam, and I check on him often ;)

Here's the official 7-month picture. No big smiles this month, but I love the look on his face...

And the photo shoot didn't last long, because Jasmine came into the room. Here's what he does every time he sees her...

A few "rolling around" pictures. His favorite thing to do these days.

On the guest bed...
Someone needs a haircut!

On our bed. He likes to play on our bed now while I get ready in the morning. Since he's so mobile, I spend more time standing there making sure he doesn't roll off than really getting ready. I think my plan is flawed :)
Pictures from a walk we took this weekend. It was such a pretty day that while Donnie was napping, we walked down to the duck pond...
A self-portrait of the two of us. I love his smile in this picture. I took this picture while we were watching the ducks.
And here's his first shot at the sippy cup.

He liked gnawing on it
This just caused him to leak water all over himself...
We still have work to do, but he's getting the hang of it!
Happy 7-month birthday, little man!

Week with Gran

Last week, Donnie's mom's school closed because of the dreaded swine flu, so she offered to come help us out for a few days. She kept Rhett during the day so he didn't have to go to daycare, which was a nice break for him since he was going through some pretty tough teething.

Here are a few pictures from their days together:

Rhett and Jasmine in the backyard. Rhett is chilling with his taggie blanket in Gran's new stroller she got for him. They have become really good buddies...

Chewing on the harness strap. He can always find a good strap to chew on!
Playing on the floor with Jasmine. I love the stand-off going on :)

And falling asleep while finishing his bottle. Such a sweet picture.

Gran, thank you so much for taking care of Rhett and everything you did around the house. It was so nice to have you here, and we're looking forward to seeing you and Grandpa this weekend!

Big Boy carseat

Rhett tried out his new carseat today and he seemed pretty happy with it! It was definitely nice to take him into school without lugging his 20lb carseat along.

Here are a few pictures I took when I picked him up from daycare. He's about to pass out 30 seconds after this :)
And here's what our little man looked like when we got home from daycare. I think the new carseat is a hit!

Time for a new carseat!

Rhett's infant carseat weighs 15-20lbs, and now that Rhett weighs 20 lbs himself, it has gotten REALLY difficult to carry him to and from the car. In fact, I have made an appointment with a chiropractor tomorrow to help with my back pains :) Add the fact that the carseat is only rated to 22lbs and he has a few inches of head room left in his carseat, it was time to upgrade.

We share daycare drop off/pick up responsibilities, so we had to buy a new carseat for each of our cars and Donnie installed mine tonight.
To commemorate the event, here are a few pictures of Rhett's first and last times in his infant carseat.

Leaving the hospital on 10/25/08:

And leaving for school this morning, almost 7 months later...
If you look at the warning label on the left side on his carseat, you can really see how big he has gotten!
Rhett's new carseat is huge but I know he'll love the extra room. I'll take some pics of the first ride in the carseat tomorrow!

Jumperoo fun

A few weeks ago, Rhett started to really get into jumping and since my arms could only hold him for so long while he jumped, I bought him a jumperoo. Several years ago, these used to hang from door frames, but now, they have a frame that sits on the floor.

This video clip is a few weeks old, but it shows Rhett's very first time in the jumperoo. At first, he just stood there and played with the toys, but once the music started, he really got going!

First Mother's Day!

Today was my very first Mother's Day, and it was so nice! Donnie let me sleep in while he got up with Rhett, although once I heard them playing in the living room, I had to go join the fun. :)

Rhett gave me the cutest card and Target gift card with instructions that I could spend it on him, but I shouldn't buy him any more carrots (he's not a fan).

After we spent some time lounging around, we met my brother Chris and his family over at my parents' house. Carraba's is one of my parents favorite restaurants, so Chris picked up a gift card for my mom from all of us. We hung out at the house until Rhett started to get cranky, so we headed home for nap time.

After nap time, we met Angie and Braden at Taste of Addison, which is a neat outdoor event where different Addison restaurants set up food booths, but they also have carnival rides for kids. Rhett didn't get the world's greatest nap today, but we figured he would cheer up. Boy, were we wrong!
To begin with, I got sunblock in his eyes and he screamed bloody murder for like 5 minutes (we stopped at Central Market on the way to the event and apparently, their high end baby sunscreen is NOT tear-free like Coppertone Water Babies). Once I used a water bottle to get rid of some of the sunscreen in his eyes, he calmed down and we were able to walk around the event. It was only 80 degrees but the humidity was stifling!
Donnie found corndogs, and I sampled some pizza from Pastazio's, which I used to love getting when I worked in the area. Everything was going good until it started to get hotter and Rhett's sweat caused more sunscreen to get into his eyes. I took him back to the car so we could sit in the A/C while Donnie, Braden, and Angie used up the rest of their tickets.

Here's a picture of our happy boy. Note the wet shirt that has sunscreen all over it from where I had to pour water on his face. He loved Taste of Addison.

Here's a picture of Donnie and Braden before their first ride. I wish I had taken an "after" picture because Donnie looked pretty green.

So, Taste of Addison wasn't great, but Rhett was in an awesome mood once we got home and that was the best Mother's Day present ever. He had a fun bath and laughed until we put him to bed. Happy Mother's Day to all those mommies out there!

Saturday at home

We had a pretty low-key Saturday, which started with the end of Gran's visit. I'll update on that later this week once I get her pictures. We had a really great time with her and she was so helpful with Rhett and stuff around the house!

Once she left Saturday morning, we spent a lot of time napping and laying around the house. Our friend Angie gave us an old toy that her kids loved, and it was a huge hit! It lights up and plays music when you touch different parts, and it's perfect to use now that Rhett can sit.

Look at how intrigued he is...

Now before you look at the next picture, I must tell you that the mirror on this toy is almost like a "fun house" mirror, so Rhett's head looks pretty distorted, but this was the look he made everytime he saw his reflection...

Thanks again, Angie!

Rhett's birthday present

Today was my 30th birthday, or as my brother Larry says, I have entered my 4th decade. I pointed out that at least I was just starting my 4th decade while he's now on the far side of it. :)

Rhett started running a fever Wednesday afternoon, so Donnie stayed home with yesterday and took him into the doctor once the fever wouldn't go down. It turns out that Rhett has his first ear infection, but the doctor said you wouldn't know it by how happy he was acting!

They gave him some antibiotics and we kept him home from daycare today, since he was still running a fever. I worked from home, and we had such a nice day together! After getting some work done in the morning, Rhett and I met Larry, Chris, and Jenn for lunch at Chuy's since his fever had started to go down. It was so nice to hang out with them. Thanks again for lunch, guys!

After lunch, Rhett and I came back to the house so he could nap while I worked some more. Once he got up from his nap, Rhett wanted to show me my birthday present....

He can sit now!!
He's been sitting with some help for about 3 weeks, but today he sat all by himself for several minutes! According to my books, babies don't normally sit this well until 7-8 months, so he was pretty proud of himself :)
Playing with the catapillar he got for Christmas. He loves the songs it plays...
And laughing at his best friend Jasmine...

When Donnie got home from work, he took us out to dinner and then we hurried home so we could get Rhett to bed. It was such a nice birthday and I feel so blessed to have Donnie and Rhett in my life. I can't wait to experience my 30's! :)
