Kaitlyn's Baby Blessing

Kaitlyn Hannah Gibb was blessed on May 27, 2012.
It was such a wonderful and special experience for us and we also had a lot of fun with the Grandparents coming for the weekend.

My parents came Saturday morning and we spent a beautiful day at the beach and had some good fish and chips at Santa Monica Pier.  When we got home from the beach, we noticed black stuff on our feet and spent a while figuring out how to get it off.  It was sticky gross tar and vaseline worked wonders.

Jeremy's parents came late afternoon and we ate at a fun little Italian restaurant called Pomodoro.  Who knew that the owner would talk to us about skiing and how he owns a part of a tiny little ski resort in Idaho.

Kaitlyn needs a little alone time with her toys to recharge.  She sure loves Lion.

Grandpa playing Pat a Cake.

My mom made Kaitlyn's blessing dress.  It's such a beautiful dress.  Her shoes are from my niece, Ellie's baby blessing (thanks for letting us use them Shalane, they were beautiful).  Also, the white blanket is from my baby blessing.  Too bad we didn't really use it because it was too hot at church for a blanket.

I sewed the headband for the bow right before church for the finishing touch.

Jeremy blessed Kaitlyn and it was such a special experience for both of us.  Kaitlyn is such a joy to us and we love every little thing about her.  We are so blessed that she came to be in our family.  I think every day how amazing it is that she is here!  I also don't know how we got such a happy baby, but I am very thankful and she is such a perfect little angel.

This is one of my favorite pictures of Kaitlyn.  So happy like usual.

After church we had a BBQ Picnic

We saw a family getting pictures taken professionally, so we borrowed their photographer for this quick shot.

My parents had to leave, but we got the Gibb's to stay for one more day.  Kaitlyn loved all the attention.

We went on a short hike (Inspiration Point) at the Will Rogers State Park.  I think that is the most original name for a hike I have ever heard... It was a pretty hike, but not worth the $12 parking fee.

May went by fast... The Beach and Yosemite

Time flies and then I realize I haven't posted in a month.  I'll try to get some highlights in.

Mitchell came to LA and took us to a delicious Korean restaurant from his mission.  We had so much fun but I still can't believe that he got acupuncture done while he was here.  I didn't know anyone in my family could take needles... Also, Mit, next time you go to the beach, don't forget a towel. ;)

This was Kaitlyn's first time in the Ocean (we had taken her to the beach a while before this, but didn't unwrap her because of the wind).  It was really warm so we decided to see what she would do if we dipped her toes in.  Honestly we were expecting a scream or two.

Before the dip.

She looked more curious than anything when her toes got cold...

No change in expression.  She didn't do anything.  So of course we had to try a little deeper.

Dip #2 to her ankles.

She seemed very interested in the moving water.

Dip #3 to her bum still didn't produce a noise.

Dip #4 was up to her chest and she still liked it.  We have a crazy little girl.

After picture: Still having fun and who knows if she has any idea what she just did.

Jeremy finished his first year of law school and we had a week to celebrate before he started working at his internship at Oxy for the summer.  The first thing we did was go to see the Avengers.  We took Kaitlyn with us to the Monday afternoon matinee expecting the theater to be empty.  It still had more people than I wanted, but Kaitlyn was a champ.  We swaddled her and put noise cancelling headphones on and she slept through the whole movie.  She only whimpered a few times in the quiet parts of course... I've never noticed how loud movies can get though.  I'm still amazed she slept through it all.

Our next adventure was at Yosemite!  One of my favorite places on earth!  We decided to bump up our plans and leave a day earlier because of the weather forecast, so we left LA on Wednesday, May 23 during rush hour... It was a long drive, but we made it into Yosemite village by midnight.  We had looked at campsite reservations before we left but didn't make one because there were over 50 open spots.  We figured we would be OK.  We were wrong.

All the campsites said FULL and we didn't know what to do.  To top it off, we got pulled over because I was reaching into the back to find something that was under all the backpacks.  It was getting worse by the minute and the Ranger/Officer said we were speeding (31 in a 25 zone).  We don't need a speeding ticket.  Then he and the 2nd officer noticed Kaitlyn asleep in the back.  She saved us yet again.  Next thing we knew, the officer was radioing his people and got us a campsite (just pay in the morning) and a map that we actually used a lot the next day.  Wow.  What service!  Thanks park rangers!  My opinion of you is changed forever!

This was how Kaitlyn slept in our new tent.  She was warm and toasty all night. I think that was 5 different blankets just in case.

We got up early the next morning to drive to Glacier Point for the view.  On the way we had to stop as a bear crossed the road!  We actually saw one.  It plodded across really slow and then came baby bear tripping over its feat and scampering across.  It looked so cute and cuddly.  Are you sure bears are dangerous?

Here's the great view from Glacier Point.

Kaitlyn had a super stuffy nose and couldn't breath so she wasn't happy.

This was after I sucked out her boogers with a straw.  Jeremy's a genius because we had no way to help her breathe.  I am also amazed what I am willing to do to keep Kaitlyn happy and safe.

We went hiking to a lake (not the one pictured above) under Castle Peak and it kept getting muddier.  Then at the very end, we got to a marsh with a 6 foot deep stream.  We couldn't find a way across and Kaitlyn wasn't happy right then, so we turned around after seeing the lake on the other side of the rocks.  We were only 20 feet away, but it wasn't worth the swim.

Kaitlyn got tired of the car seat by the end.  This is our view of her.

On our way out of Yosemite, we stopped at the Tunnel View Picture spot.  Kaitlyn didn't like the sun in her eyes so we tried again after she ate and there was shade.  Much better.  It was a great 1 1/2 day trip.  I highly recommend Yosemite to anyone and everyone!
