BDSSB;humanity is instrumental

Hi all. Please be informed that the next band pract. will be on the 24th November (Monday), usual time from starting from 8am-12pm. Room will be opened till 3pm for sectionals. I’ve gotta make things clear. Rehearsal time starts at 8am, and it doesn’t mean you come at 8am. You arrive to school earlier. On Monday, chairs and percussion to be set up in the hall by 7.45am, every member, please have some courtesy to help instead of taking your own sweet time to assemble your clarinet/flute/saxophone or whatever instrument. just to name a few cus they are usually the ones. Make sure you’ve got LOTAH and Overture no. 1 (set piece). Once Mr. Ong enters, he’ll be starting warm up and then the pieces.

Requirements for the rehearsal:

*Complete Legend of the Ancient Hero & Half of Overture No. 1                                                                       *Pencil *Scribbled notes all over the scores of both pieces

In any case you fail to fulfill this requirement, Mr. Ong will walk off the band. Please show that you’re ready.

Leaders, please help out, seriously, the leaders are not doing anything and its always me and patricia doing the job. You guys gotta help out. 

Section Leaders: Please inform your section of this upcoming monday rehearsal event line-up. If they fail to meet the requirement, section leaders will be in deep deep deep deep trouble. 

Also, we may have footdrills, please wear your PE attire. And Diaphragm exercises may be conducted. Running around the school 3 times, the one which Trombone section did for sectionals.

Conductor(s), Councils & Members will be looking forward for an enjoyable rehearsal. Please make it come true. I really need help and cooperation.

We can only have Saturday Practices till 15th Nov due to O-Level Examinations. Thus, here are the upcoming band rehearsal schedules till the end of the year.

Time: 8am-12pm

Saturdays: 25/10, 1/11, 8/11

for the 15th of November, we will be having a combined band with SAS, SPS for the SYF Sight Reading. Both Seniors & Juniors attendance are extremely compulsory.

Followed by are the holiday practices/rehearsals,

17/11, 19/11, 21/11, 24/11, 26/11, 28/11, 1/12, 3/12, 5/12, 8/12, 10/12, 12/12, 15/12, 16/12, 29/12, 31/12.

Please follow it accordingly. Will update you guys soon. Anything, please inform me. I HATE and im SICK of stupid excuses for nuts, SO, please attend the practices. Time will be the same.

im sure your section leader have informed you guys abt the change in band practice. it’ll resume next wednesday, 22nd of Oct 2008. also, please make be 100% sure that you got all the pieces in your file. if you do not have, please seek SHEILA, 2A or ANDY, 3G (your librarians) for the score. and syf is just next year. Legend of the Ancient Hero will be our choice piece. Once the set piece is out, we will have to work xtra hard. I know its not gonna be an easy year for the batch of 2009 sec3s and sec4s, cus its a big leap from sec2 to sec3, &sec4s preparing for their national examinations. Every band practice/rehearsal, MUST HAVE FULL ATTENDANCE. Mr. Glosz’s would like to speak to the band anytime soon. &btw, our End of Year Concert is still ON. & Juniors, your junior band festival IS NOT FUNNY A LEAST. Its gonna kill you people and embarrass yourselves in front of all the audiences. No matter what, the leaders, your seniors, will be there supporting you guys. If you insist on missing band practices/rehearsals, bad attendance, we will therefore have to refer you to the higher authority(not saying who it is, but not anyone you can play tom, dick and harry with for hide-and-seek). i have to ultra emphasize on this attendance issue cus its bringing the band lower. During the holidays, there will be band practice. The SYF Set Piece will be released during that period of time. therefore, YOUR ATTENDANCE (once again), IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.

seriously, this attendance issue thing have to come to a FULL STOP. I hate silly excuses (eg. headache, stomache, leg pain, mouth pain, GOT SOMETHING ON*most famous*, my parents don’t allow me to go for band, sick uh, band very boring.) In any of these cases or further, please PRODUCE A VALID MEDICAL CERTIFICATE (MC), not any letters with SILLY REASONS. We ONLY ACCEPT letters with VALID REASON such as eg. funeral. apparently, if band is boring, you won’t be able to submit a letter writing “band is boring”          tsktsk-.- BE PROUD OF BAND.

NO EFFORT NO EXCELLENCE

on contrary, EFFORT=EXCELLENCE (learned from Mr. Glosz during festival winds preparation)

Even if band is boring, suggest ways to make band a more interesting and subjective place for learning and fun and practicing and rehearsing to take place. How beautiful can that be!(: 

&FYI, NEW INSTRUMENTS have finally arrived. Some are on the way from countries as far as ENGLAND! &i really hope that you will tell me YOU DESERVE IT if you think you seriously deserve it. Which i find most of you CMI (cnt make it) YET. Thus, it’ll be good if we could be lack of instruments since you’ve proved to us your good attendance and propose to get moreeeee fund to buy moreeeeeee instruments.

The Leaders, Principals, Mr. Glosz, Mr. Ong & the Teachers have planned a whole lot of activities for the Bedok South Symphonic Band. SHOW US YOU DESERVE IT. SHOW US YOU WANT IT. SHOW US EVERYTHING! Lastly, its still the same sentence “Having Good Attendance is what we’re looking for, COMMITTMENT!”

Schedule for 3^rd August 2008, Wednesday:

 

By 1.45pm..

-Band members reporting time

-Band room will be opened to move percussions up to music room.

(Expected to complete moving the percussions by 2.15pm)

-quickly set up your instruments & music stands.

-set up chairs in the band room

 

By 2.15pm..

-everyone band member is expected to be seated in the music room getting ready for warm up. (latest will be 2.20pm)

-section leaders use 5-10mins to call section members who have not yet arrive

 

From 2.30pm – 3.30pm..

-mr ong OR patricia will start warm up with the band.

-full band rehearsal

 

From 3.30pm – 5pm..(1hr 30mins)

-sectionals (pieces are: thunderer march, pirates of the Caribbean-dead men’s chest, best of beatles, best of queen, copa cabana, can you feel the love tonight, to a wild rose, legend of the ancient hero)..do not spend too much time on those pieces played over and over again! Practice those pieces which we barely played before eg. Copa cabana, pirates, legend of the ancient hero.

*to all SLs: please give your section 10mins break during sectionals. Make sure they come back on time. Otherwise give out punishment if necessary*

 

From 5pm – 5.30pm..

-full band again

 

From 5.30pm onwards..

-help to move percussions into the music storeroom

-go back to band room to keep instruments & settle down quickly

-mark attendance, announcements

-dismissal

To ALL SECTION LEADERS:

 

Please make sure your section has full attendance otherwise you’ll stay back and explain why they are not here. The councils will not accept silly reasons eg. I can’t contact them, I don’t have their number. You better get their numbers before Wednesday so that if they are not present, you can call them. Don’t have it? get it from me. Understand? Yes, okay. & there will be a new piece for them this Wednesday, it’ll be Legend of the Ancient Hero by Mr Yeo. Please ask your section to bring thumbdrive on wed if they want the recording. Otherwise if you have, you can send it to them. Yup, some of you have the music score already. And please, for nuts, practice during sectionals. Don’t fool around, things don’t get efficient. You wouldn’t want to sound the worst during sectionals. Oh ya, please take a tuner when you go up to the music room. Very very very important for every section to have one tuner. &also make sure you have all the pieces in your file before entering the room. Look for SHEILA OR ANDY if you do not have any piece. Hello All. Festival Winds is finally over. We can finally rest well (especially me, im already sick). i was coughing like mad on stage ytd. Festival Winds was really fun for all the participants. Well then, SAJC, SAS, SPS are still our friends. Anyway, yesterday’s concert ended of with a ringing note. Although some parts were slightly screwed up, we managed to pull through it. And we all ended up taking photos at the end of the concert. Efforts put in for this concert was definitely worth it. We gained a fruitful experience. Got to work with the St. Andrew’s Family, St. Patrick’s School and with different conductors with different styles.

We have learnt so much from this. Anyway, thats all for now.
