Orange Beach

Ben finished his surgery rotation and we thought that we better take advantage of his 2 1/2 day break. So we went to Alabama! We spent 2 full days turning into little raisins, it was so great!

Ben wasn't to sure about this picture.

Anna wanted water to fill her bucket up, she thought this was the best technique.

In the hotel room we watched "Madagascar." Ellie taught the whole family a dance to "I like to move it move it." I can always count on Ellie to bring a smile to my face!

I don't think that Anna ever let go of her daddy's hand.

Just a little deeper!

Ellie spent most of the day digging a hole with her dad. She kept saying to Anna, "Are you going to help at all Anna?"

This was right when Anna got out of the hole. She said that she needed to go and get clean. I love her cute little body!

Pajamas = Princess Dress

This is our favorite outfit lately, yes they are pajamas. I will get Anna ready for the day and then she will come in and say "I need to wear my pretty dress!" My mom gave these pajamas to Ellie when she was 2 and so when it was Anna's turn to get them she fell in love instantly! The first picture is Anna dancing around the house. She always puts her hand to her ear and says, "listen mommy." She loves music! I had to put the other picture because Ellie will always say, "Anna, let me see your best smile" and this is the beautiful smile that we get!

We miss her!

We really miss our little Ellie. Anna quickly realized that I wasn't as exciting as her "big sister Ellie." Anna asks all day long if it is time for Ellie to come home. Yesterday we were sitting on the couch reading books and suddenly Anna asked, "Where's Ellie?" I told her that she was still at school and Anna said, "I really need to tell her something." Then she climbed off the couch and went to the door and said, "let's go to her school so that I can tell her." What she needed to tell her, I have no idea, but she said that she could only tell Ellie.

It has been fun having one on one time with little Anna Bell. I think that it will be good for her to decide things by herself. I find myself wanting to hear Ellie and Anna giggling and playing together throughout the day, and get a little sad when I realize that those moments will happen less and less, but it helps a little to know that Ellie is really enjoying school.

I walk her to school every morning and she is trying to talk me into walking to pick her up in the afternoon. I told her maybe when it is not so hot and humid, because even at 8 o'clock in the morning by the time I get home I am soaked through my clothes. When I drop her off in the morning there are 5 little fifth graders waiting to walk them in. Ellie really likes this, I think that it makes her fell like a big kid. Ellie said that her favorite part of the day is, "going down the big slide at recess." That's our Ellie. Everyday she comes home and says, "I made 3 new friends" or today it was, "I made 5 new friends!" As for her least favorite part of the day, Nap Time. I can tell that it is pure torture for her! I think that she will be able to survive.
By the end of the day Anna and I are so anxious to go and get her. I know that I have about 2 minutes to ask her all of my questions before she has had enough. So I will continue to cram in as many questions as I can!

Happy Birthday!

(Spring 1997)

Happy Birthday Amy Jo!
Oh, those were the days! Amy is the type of friend that everyone should be blessed with. She is loyal, caring, and always wants what's best for you. Amy and I became friends in junior high school and I adored her from the moment I met her. In high school when I was faced with tough decisions I always knew that she would be right there by my side supporting me. Amy was the one who got me and Ben to go on our first date, now how can I really repay her?
Our little girls are six weeks apart and became friends instantly, did they really have a choice? She has been an example to me from the very beginning. She shows me the kind of friend, wife, daughter, and mom that I want to be. I am so thankful that I could have such a wonderful friend to go through so many life changing experiences with.

Kindergarten

Here is Ellie in her cute little uniform. She will be wearing a navy blue polo shirt everyday this year. The bottoms have to be tan, she wanted to wear her new jumper for the first day. I think that she looks so grown up. What a little cutie!

The most exciting part of the day was that Ben got to spend the morning with us! Ellie was very excited to go to school, which made it a whole lot easier on me.

The love of my life

Happy Anniversary Benjamin James!
Ben and I have been married 7 years today and things just keep getting better and better. I fell in love with Ben the first moment that I saw him (at the age of 10) and each day I fall more and more in love with him. Today was Ellie's first day of school and I couldn't help but think about all of the many experiences that our family has had in 7 short years. I am thankful for Ben and for the way that he chooses to be a husband and a father. He really is the greatest person that I know. He is a wonderful example to me. There is no one that I would rather come home to, talk to, laugh with, cry with, work with, play with, and just simply BE with.
I love you Babe!

My Baby

At least she still feels like my baby. I always ask Ellie "are you my baby?" and she says, "mom I'm a big girl but I will always be your baby!" On Saturday Ellie and I went on a date, we normally don't go to "big girl" movies but we went to the movie, "Hairspray" (She told Ben that we were going to "Spray hair.") Anyway, as we spent the day together going to the movie, signing her up for dance and having lunch together I couldn't help but feel so grateful for the sweet little girl that she has become. She brings so much personality into our home. She always wants Ben and me to be happy with her, she loves being a big sister and telling Anna about new things that she has learned. She knows what she wants and can be very determined, this can be both a positive and a negative but I choose to focus on the positive! She LOVES to learn about anything and everything. She loves to sing. She loves to dance. She prefers any sport that requires a ball - baseball, basketball, football, soccer, and golf. She adores her daddy! A day doesn't go by that she forgets to pray for her Grandma Candy and Grandpa Dick and Mimi and Grandpa Duff. She LOVES her cousins! She hopes that we have 4 babies next so that each of us can have one to take care of. She has so much excitement and enthusiasm about everything. She is our little angel. I am thankful for the sweet example she is to me each and every day.
Ellie is starting Kindergarten tomorrow. I am having many mixed emotions for her. I asked her the other day if she was excited to start school and she said, "Mom, I'm just not quite sure what to expect." I turned away and of course started to cry and thought, "I'm not either!" With each new journey that comes our way I can't help but wonder if we have taught her the things that she needs to know. Will she be kind and polite? Will she be confident? Will she make good choices? Will she be a good example? I know that we still have much more to teach Ellie to help her become the wonderful young woman that she is supposed to be, but hopefully we are going down the right path. I love you Ellie Louise!

Our "Louisiana" Friends

I don't know how we would have made it this past month without our Louisiana friends. Ellie has had one best friends since the day we moved to Louisiana, Carston. We love Carston. Ellie is always thinking about him and is always wanting to be with him. Our ward here in Louisiana has a lot of medical, law, and dental students always coming and going. It is sad and wonderful all at the same time. Sad because we are always saying goodbye to old friends and wonderful because each year brings a set of new students which we anxiously await to meet. This year has been another great year. There have been so many new and wonderful families. One of the families has 2 darling girls the same age as Ellie and Anna. They are such sweet girls, Janie is Ellie's age and their little one is also named Anna. Our Anna finds this quite funny that her new little friend has the same name. I am so thankful for the wonderful friendships that we have made while being in New Orleans. I am also thankful for the wonderful examples that they are to me and to my girls. I learn so much from each one of them!

Eclipse

I would like to start by saying Eclipse was all that I expected and more. I haven't written about it yet because I went through a slight depression after. I am kidding, okay I am just kind of kidding! Maybe it was because I haven't seen Ben much or maybe it is because I know that I have to wait an entire year for Edward and Bella to be a part of my life again. I am not quite sure what to think of the way the book evolved. I can't help but feel bad for Jacob, I always feel bad for the underdog. I find Jacob quite sweet, but it really is an unfair competition, can you really compare to Edward? Okay, I think that is all that I am going to say. And I am happy to say that I am slowly getting out of my little sad rut!

Our little Anna

I love this picture because this is how I think of Anna. She got up this morning wanting her nails painted, "pink toenails" with "red fingernails". I have to say she knows what she likes! Then she decided that her slip would be the "prettiest" thing to wear for the day. She was twirling all through the house. She loved the ruffles at the bottom of the "beautiful dress." She was wondering why she couldn't just wear her slip to the store. Then we spent most of the day taking care of her babies, feeding them, changing them, and making sure they had all of their accessories! That's our Anna!

Project of the Week

This was our project of the week, ticket jars. My sister-in-law gave me the idea to have Ellie and Anna earn tickets all week long for a prize at the end of the week. The goal is to earn 10 tickets, sometimes it is a real struggle and sometimes we have a great week and it is quite easy! The girls look forward to "Fun Friday" all week! This week the girls earned a movie night! They have to each earn 4 tickets to get into the movie, 2 tickets for popcorn, 2 tickets for a treat and 2 tickets for a "special" drink. So for this weeks project we decided that it would be fun to make a special container for their tickets. I think they turned out really cute. Can you guess which can belongs to which child. Of course Anna wanted Pink, she wants Pink for Everything. Ellie is having a struggle with picking her favorite color, it was green for the longest time but now I am seeing a little bit of a girlie girl come out in our little Ellie, she picked her orange paper but was glad that there was "a little pink!"
