All of my paintings from this year’s #pleinairapril!
What a journey!
I am very extremely stoked to announce I’ll be teaching a class with @warriorartcamp this coming March!
When it comes to landscape painting you often need to make quick decisions when it comes to design. What do you leave in? What do you take out?? In this course we’ll answer those age-old questions as we learn to approach painting with a design-oriented mindset.
This class is for anyone who has been painting for a while and feels they’ve plateaued (I’ve been there!). Together we’ll do some fun in-class exercises designed to get you thinking about shape and design in a new way!

A Thunderbird commission for Thunderbird Productions :D
This was a gift to the Sts'Ailes nation who gave their blessing for the company to use the name :D

With everything happening right now I feel like it’s more important than ever to document our process. Some people have commented that it looks like I use filters in my art. Well, not that many people actually. Just two dudes at a Christmas market years ago. It’s those comments that sometimes stick with ya the longest T___T.
I’m already dreading the deluge of “Wow! Is that AI art?” questions to come.
ANYWAYS. I do all this by hand :D
It takes me lot of thumbnail sketches, shape explorations and color studies even before jumping in to final paint.
It’s a lot of work, and I don’t enjoy every single part of the process- but the joy and sense of accomplishment that comes out of making something is pretty rad. Especially when it’s a bit of a struggle and you manage to turn it around.
So glad I can share these now!
I worked on the #NightAtTheMuseum animated feature for a few months back in 2020. AD’d by the indomidable Rebecca Dart.
I did some explorations for a lot of the ancient Egypt stuff before moving on to art direct on Pinecone and Pony. We were originally thinking each location could have a distinct artistic style, so we explored having a linge claire, Moebius type-vibe for these. I think they ended up going in a different direction for the movie but I’m super proud of these!

Hey Laura! I recently discovered that a couple of really good friends of mine (and coworkers) Dawn and Sarah, were also friends with you when you lived in Van. I've been following you for years and have a couple of prints, so it was quite a small world moment 😂.
Anyways, really excited that you're back on tumblr - absolutely love seeing this stuff all pop up again. All the best, Lars
