Sock Bunnies

I saw a fun and easy craft idea and just had to try it while the babies were napping. We already had most of the materials, and for those we didn't have we improvised. We used a sock without a match (I could easily find several of those), rice, elmer's glue, googly eyes, white paper, rubber bands, pom-poms, and scissors.

My super cute craft partner :)

We funneled rice into a sock with a rolled up piece of paper, filling it pretty full,
closed it up with a rubber band and left room for bunny ears,
another rubber band to make a head and body,
glued on googly eyes, pom-poms for nose and tail, and white paper teeth.
Then a cut down the middle of the top part for bunny ears.
Four little bunnies in a row.
Brooke pointed out her favorite, named "Brookie".

History Lesson

We toured an old historic downtown, and had fun in the schoolhouse there. Brooke practiced writing on her tablet.

David found the teacher's paddle.

Brooke played a few tunes on the piano.

And Claire (left) and Keely (right) enjoyed the sunshine and watching everyone.

While Sister's Away...

...the babies will play--with all her toys!

Claire and Keely had so much fun today at play while Brooke was at preschool. They missed their Sissy but sure did enjoy having all the toys to themselves.

Grocery Gold!

Grocery shopping for me usually means a 10:00pm run to Walmart by myself after the kids are asleep. I usually dread the trip because by 10:00pm I am so exhausted.

But not today.

Today, I stumbled upon this little jewel.
That's right. A DOUBLE SEATER cart with a CAR in the front!

I pulled up to the Kroger parking lot for a quick trip to buy some fruit. I prepared to whip out the double stroller. I did a double take as I glanced at the buggy Brooke was whining about, pleading to "drive the car one". I realized that this was no ordinary cart, that it could easily accommodate all of my children, and a smile crept upon my face. "Sure, Brooke. You can drive the car."

Thank you Kroger. You made a Momma's (and a daughter's) day today.

Babies Love Spring Break

David and Brooke went to visit Grandma for a couple days during Spring Break. I was glad to get some special time with Claire and Keely. One of the days we met up with friends at the park. I felt kind of lost not chasing after a 2 year old. :)

Back to Her Sweet Self

I have shared that we were struggling to deal with Brooke's behavior lately. I am very happy to report that she's been doing great the last couple of weeks. I think the main reason for the switch is that we said goodbye to the potty for a while. I think the potty was a big source of stress for Brooke and for Mommy & Daddy. Since its departure, Brooke's behavior has drastically changed for the better. For now, we are focusing on all the positive things Brooke is doing. And there are so many! The potty may come back in a couple months, or if she decides she is ready. In the meantime, we are so enjoying our sweet girl and all of her good choices.

Just a few of the cute things we hear from Brookie:

"My heart is so happy!" (She says this a lot; melts my heart!)

"I love my family." / "I want to see my family."

"I'm the Big Sissy. And I love my little Sissies so much!"

"I have brown eyes like my Mommy."

"My eyes have stars in them."

"Jesus is so special to me." / "I love Jesus." / "God is in my heart."

Weekend Fun

Last weekend we met Mom & Dad in Georgetown. We checked in to a cute Bed & Breakfast in the country. We celebrated my birthday with presents and cake, then David and I headed to my friend Chelsea's wedding. Grammy Co and Grandpa Hub volunteered to watch the kids while we were gone. A good time was had by all, except for the hour or so the babies decided to scream.

Fun at the wedding

Pink Eyes and a Princess Behaving Badly

Three weeks ago, just after all three girls had overcome an ugly virus, Brooke began rubbing her left eye. The following day, our suspicions were confirmed when she was diagnosed with conjunctivitis, more commonly known as "pink eye". Though the drops cost more than $70 for the tiniest bottle of eye drops you can imagine, we were ready to be rid of the pink eye. We sanitized our house and prayed the dreaded bug would not affect anyone else in the house. Six days later, things were looking up; all signs of pink eye were gone. One trip to church later it was back, and this time all three girls were affected.

We used up every single drop from the tiny bottle, yet it was not enough to cure all the girls. So back to the doctor we went with Keely. Another $70 later (plus the extra co-pay at the office), we were ready to knock it out.

This brings me to part two of my post. Not 12 hours after buying this bottle of eye drops, Brooke found a moment when I wasn't looking to squeeze out half of the bottle. I would estimate the damage at around $40.

Normally I would be very upset about this, but it is only one incident in a line of many. Since Brooke grew tall enough to reach counters or climb onto shelves, I am confronted with many new challenges. In the last couple of weeks I have happened upon:

-the contents of an entire bottle of Bath & Body Works body wash poured on the bathroom toilet lid (and lock) and strewn all over the bathroom floor, including bath mat.

-the contents of an entire bottle of another body wash poured on our master bathroom floor.

-honey, squeezed onto the dining room table, left to drip slowly onto the floor.

-my can of Diet Dr. Pepper, empty on its side; the liquid in a pool on the floor.

-an entire basket of headbands, hair ties, clips strewn across Brooke's bedroom floor.

-several shirts and dresses in piles on the floor, yanked from the closet rod.

-a naked matress; its comforter, fitted and flat sheets, and mattress pad in a pile on the floor.

-my Valentine roses, dismantled, in about 100 pieces on the floor.

and let's not even talk about potty training/poop issues.

She is also having trouble following directions at preschool.

The Naughty Rug no longer phases her. You would think I would know a thing or two about child rearing, but I feel lost! I am frustrated. The thing that worries me most is imagining this naughtiness times two in two years.

A couple of people have suggested books to me on the subject. I will have to find some time when I am not evading disaster to read them. I hope it gives me some suggestions. In the meantime I welcome yours!

I was so glad to be able to attend our church's ladies retreat, thanks to the support of my wonderful husband and my mother-in-law who took such great care of the kids. I am going over and over the verses I took from my weekend of worship. I have hope! May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. -Romans 15:13

Please hope and pray with me that God will show us direction in how to help Brooke in the coming days.
