Freshly Made Sketches #730

The minute I saw Judy's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches I knew I had the exact die from SSS as her center image.  Then it was a matter of what to do for the side panel.  Oh, I know!  That foiled Spellbinders floral border that's been sitting in my Bits box.

The flowers were colored with Distress Inks, the die cut with silver cardstock to match the foiling and I used the center to add the sentiment from PFS.  It's like they were made for each other and this challenge.

Thanks for dropping by and spending a bit of your day with me.

Freshly Made Sketches #727

The minute I saw Michele's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches an idea sparked.  Then I thought maybe the image was too big.  I made the card anyway.  What do you think?

I got the Honey Bee Lovely Layers Wishing Well because I'm attracted to old, rusty metal and wood things and this well appealed to me.  I made it right away and then it sat in the package until I pulled it out for this card. The background was colored with Distress Inks in Tumbled Glass and Twisted Citron.  The dark gray frame is from Waffle Flower and the grass is from Gina Marie.  I tried to match the green ink to the cardstock.  I had a difficult time coming up with a sentiment and was going to go without when I ran across this one from PTI.  I would have done the grass differently if I had the sentiment before I added it but I stamped it on the same paper and trimmed it down. I think it works.

This is going to be a busy weekend.  Both my son and granddaughter have birthdays tomorrow. We will celebrate Allyson on Sunday before going to the middle school play where my great grandson has the second lead in High School Musical Jr. His sister also has a dance competition on Saturday but I won't be going since I've already seen the dances.  Allyson's brother and his family will be joining us as well as her other grandma who came down from Michigan for the occasion.  Like I said - It's going to be a busy weekend but so much fun.

The Paper Players #770 and NBUS #82

I went looking for a challenge to play in and found Jaydee's sketch at The Paper Players.  It worked great for a new die set.

I can't remember when I bought this Pretty Pink Posh Holiday Birds set but it was past time to get them on a card.  I LOVE birds and while the package had them all red I just couldn't do that so here are my blue jay, cardinal, chickadee and titmouse.  The die cuts each bird and its pieces at once so they are cut from white and colored with Distress Inks.  The embossed background is Hedgeberry from SSS and the sentiment is from Memory Box.  The sketch is a slimline but I liked the birds better on an A2 card.

These little fellows are making their way to Darnell's NBUS challenge too.

Thanks for dropping by and spending a little bit of your day with me.

Jingle Belles - Old and New

Stef and Lauren want us to use something old and something new on our cards for Jingle Belles.  Anything to keep my Christmas stash growing.

The holly stamp is an old one from Ellen Hutson (oob) that I watercolored with Distress Inks in Pine Needles, Barn Door and Scorched Timber. I gave the panel a little splatter using Altenew Spray with a paint brush and added a layered WF frame from SB Treasure Black Metallic. Sorry you can't see the shine in the photo. My 'new' is the sentiment die from TH Holiday Collection, cut in SB Ruby Matte Metallic.

Thanks for dropping by and spending a little of your day with me.  If you are in the throes of the storm, please stay safe and warm.

Time Out #305 - Favorite Technique

Time Out is giving you a chance to show us your favorite technique.

Whatever it is that you like to do to make your card special is what we want to see.  One of my favorite techniques is Ink Smooshing.  Like this.

Some people put ink on their mat, add water and slap the cardstock into it.  Some take a piece of acetate and dip it into watered down ink and placed on cardstock repeatedly until they get the look they want.  For me, it's easier to use a pouncer I made by wrapping acetate packaging around a ball of paper towel and securing it with a rubber band.

The panel was then used to make this card.

The smooshing adds dimension and color to the background of The Greetery Hollyhocks, making it look like more flowers in the distance.  The flowers and leaves were colored with Dried Marigold, Pealed Paint and Shabby Shutters Distress Ink, the same ink used to smoosh.

Top Flight is the sponsor for this challenge and they will award our winner a $25 store credit.  To win you have to enter so let's get making those cards with your favorite technique.

Just Us Girls #805 - Word Week

Elizabeth is our host again for Word Week at Just Us Girls and this is what she chose:

I saw Jennifer McGuire use a cute set from Pinkfresh Studio and had to add it to my stash, partly for the sentiments that include dies.

It's called Get Well Soon and the bundle includes the stamp, die, and stencil.  You can't tell but I used Lisa Horton's gold for the handles, spout and stripes on the saucer.  The background was partially embossed with Tasteful Textiles from SU and colored with Kitsch Flamingo, leaving the bottom smooth for a Hickory Smoke 'table'.

Laurel and the Design Team have some wonderful words of encouragement for you to see.  We hope to inspire you to make a card for the challenge.

Inkspirational #357

I would say that Inkspirational's theme is very appropriate.

The temperatures have been unusually cold in our area and across the country.  It's best to stay in and craft. LOL

It all started with Penny Black's Snowy who happened to be already colored and in the die package.  I cut three Snowflake Circle Frames from Memory Box, one in a glitter cardstock, and used an MFT circle slightly larger to cut the card front.  The glitter circle was layered on one and the other was used on the inside to give a finished look.  The inside was colored with Stormy Sky Distress Ink before adding Snowy, two glitter snowflakes and a snow hill.  The sentiment is from My Craft Spot which is one of the first stamp companies I bought from and has been out of business for some time.  Here's a look at the inside.

I think Snowy is the only one who doesn't mind this weather.  I mean look at that smile.

Color Hues #123

It's pink and green at Color Hues and I made another Christmas card.

I already made a card using the Waffle Flower Poinsettia Frame die (you can see it here) but it works great with the challenge colors.  I used Distress Inks in Spun Sugar, Kitsch Flamingo, Bundled Sage, Rustic Wilderness and Picked Raspberry.  The background is Timeworn Type from SU! and the silver embossed sentiment is from PFS. I like to make Christmas cards all year long so this won't be the last one you see.

The Flower Challenge #109

Before I get to my card, I have sad news to report from our wonderful team leader, Karren.

"After 9 years of The Flower Challenge the December challenge will be our last. We want to thank all our design team members, past and present, and especially all our participants over the years. Finally, we thank Aileen Ryan for coming up with the idea and running the challenge in conjunction with Viv Hodge for the first 7 years. We will post the winners as usual on the 4th of January 2026. The challenge blog will remain open for floral inspiration. We will be back with our reminder post on the 15th."

I decided to follow in the footsteps of Jennifer McGuire and make a bridge card featuring the Poinsettia Frame die from Waffle Flower.  You get half of the frame and separate flower sections to stack over those on the frame.  The stencils and Distress Inks color everything.  This is mainly a Waffle Flower card since the inside is embossed with their coverplate and the sentiment is one of their hot foil plates.

Thank you to all our loyal followers.  You've given us some wonderful flower cards over the years.

Just Us Girls #803 - Stencil Week

It's stencil week at Just Us Girls and our host is Sue.

This will be our last challenge until the new year.  We hope you check in with us in January.

The image is Spellbinder's Full Bloom Poinsettia glimmer plate, foiled in gold.  Distress Inks were used to color it.  Salt Water Taffy, Abandoned Coral, Fired Brick, Rustic Wilderness, Ground Expresso, varying the intensity with pressure and layers.   The gold foiled sentiment is from PFS.

Thanks to all our guest designers and to all of you who have been so good about entering our challenges.  We couldn't do it without you.

Just Us Girls #801 - Word Week

It's Word Week at Just Us Girls and Carol chose this word:

While at Michele's this summer, I stamped one of her darling Penny Black images and decided this was the time to use it.

It's called Little Sledder. I think she is precious and reminds me of my four blond granddaughters. (when they were little of course). She was stamped on watercolor paper and colored with Distress Inks.  A Penny Black frame, also cut from watercolor paper, was added to SB Blush and a sentiment from PTI finishes it off.

What comes to your mind when you think of the word winter?  For inspiration, our guest Leslie Miller and the Design Team have a wide variety of beautifully made cards.  We'd love to see your card in the gallery.

What a great turnout we had for our 800th challenge.  I put all the eligible names in a bowl and had my husband draw a name.  Drum roll . . .  the winner of the Dazzling Diamond hot foil plate is Karen Letchworth.  Please send your mailing address to bobbarah @ gmail .com, Karen, and congratulations.

Color Hues #120

I am honored to be guest designing at Color Hues.

I was invited after a recent win and of course I said yes.
Here are the colors for this week's challenge.

And my card

Did those colors scream Halloween to you?  It's funny but I went back and saw other cards I made with that color combination and all but one was Halloween and most of them were for Color Hues.   For this one I blended the background with Spiced Marmalade, Seedless Preserves and Black Soot Distress Ink, after masking the moon.  The haunted house is from MFT, the bats from Sizzix, the sentiment from EH and the hill from SSS.

The Design Team has more inspiration for you on the blog.  We'd all love to see your cards using these fun bright colors.  Won't you join us?

Just Us Girls #797 - Mood Board Week

This is Mood Board Week at Just Us Girls and our host Carol wants you to be inspired by this:

Here's a larger view.

The board is full of lovely Fall colors and lots of little images to pull from.  This is the direction I took.

My new Penny Black Ascending die looked somewhat like the leaves in the photo so I watercolored them with Distress Inks in Fossilized Amber, Evergreen Bough and Rusty Hinge.  Then I went looking for matching paper to add some interest to the side -  SB light yellow, C9 Spiced Cider and an unswatched aqua along with a main panel of Gina K Moonlit Fog.  The background was embossed with a Honey Bee burlap folder for a rustic look.

Our guest designer Greta and the rest of the team have some wonderful cards to inspire you to enter the challenge.  I hope to see you there.

The Flower Challenge #107

There's still time for you to make a card for The Flower Challenge.

The Design Team is back with more inspiration too.  Here's mine.

Altenew's Cosmos are the star of the card, cut from a variety of purple scraps, with the leaves in Green Parakeet.  A panel was lightly colored with Distress Ink before adding the Concord and 9th plaid die cut.  The sentiment is from Pinkfresh Studio.

We hope to see your card in our gallery.

Just Us Girls #796 - Word Week

Sue is the host for Word Week at Just Us Girls and her word is

If you're behind on your Halloween cards, this is a chance to catch up.  If you don't usually make cards for this occasion, I hope you'll give it a try.

It all started with a PTI frame cut in black and white.  The white sections were colored with Distress Inks after masking some of the images from Ellen Hutson (oob) and inlaid into the layered frame.  Another owl was fussy cut and placed over the stamped one as was the moon.  The images were colored with Altenew artist markers and some PPP stars added.

Let's go see what the Design Team and our guest Greta did.  Scary or Cute?  What do you think?
