Debut album by Lou Quinse. Here we can hear a mix of blackened folk with death metal, that reminds a lot the danish Svartsot and the french Hantaoma. The use of bagpipes, accordions and mostly different kinds of flutes, is present everywhere along with the funny lyrics.

A great 'Ep by the japanese Beyond Description, a band that is moving in the extreme underground since 1988. They have released a lot of 'Eps, splits and 2 albums. This mini album lasts 20 minutes and combines the best of japanese hardcore with the typical Beyond Description sound mixed with old school thrash metal, reminding Ratos De Porao a lot.

6th album by Tyr. It follows the path of the band's previous releases by mixing classic heavy metal riffs with impressive drumming, traditional melodies and powerful choruses. It maintains the same level of epic songwriting and extraordinarily catchy choruses, while the quality of the recording is even cleaner. It contains though lesser folk and progressive moments than their previous releases.

Debut album by Gae Bolga, that consists of ex members of various black and thrash bands from Belgium. The album is a pure mix of speed and thrash metal such as Whiplash, Exumer and Slayer. Danny's high-pitched screams really remind of early Tom Araya. Generally this release quarantees an old school thrashing fest.

Debut album by Hellcrawler. The slovenians are playing a mixture of crusty death metal with plenty punk influences. Their soundtrack to the demise of humankind is a motorized assault of old school death metal and d-beat.

At the Gates’ swansong 4th effort, has been the introduction for death metal for countless fans, while also being the inspiration and direct influence on much of the modern death metal music scene. The stand-out sound is an incredible, monstrous guitar tone, unleashed by Anders Bjorler and Martin Larsson. They split-up shortly after the release of this album and despite several reunions for live performances, the band members have vowed not to record another album.

3rd album by Morbid Angel. Death metal done at its very best. Here one can hear to excellent songwriting, amazing riffs with a churning sound accompanied with David Vincent’s awesome snarls. Trey Azagthoth plays complicated, heavily detuned riffs, some with a lightning-fast picking style and others in a slower groove. Drummer Pete Sandoval is one of the genre's fastest and he proves it.

3rd album by Alestorm. It is a typical epic metal album with a pirate theme, while the band brings out influences from their Scottish folk music making the whole “experiment” worth listening to. Track no 6 is about the criticism of their lyrics, style, attitude reminding Running Wild. Aside from an almost complete lack of progression(who cares?) and a bit of rehashing from older albums, this is a wholly enjoyable album.

After 6 years since their last effort, Deceased released their 6th album. It contains all the elements Deceased are known for: intense death/thrash with melodic hooks and a dark atmosphere. Each track distinguishes itself very well from the next, with only modest similarities in the vocals. They have also managed to succeed the best production ever. A great comeback by the death/thrash pioneers!!

Debut album by Eure Erben, that was self released in 2 versions: one with german lyrics and one with english. The germans are actually the members of Darkness that released 3 Lps in '80s. Re-united, with Arnd taking care of vocals and guitars(since their 2 old vocalists died!!!), they are offering us 11 songs of teutonic speed/thrash with great melodic riffs.

After one promising demo in 2008, Dexteram released their debut album. Here you can hear nothing but thrashing riffs after riffs, nice aggressive vocals and great, melodic solos, all these in high speed. These colombians are here to prove that thrash is not dead and is back for good.

Debut album by Hades. They had lots of metal thrashing madness, but they also had some speed metal and lots of progressive elements. Every song is distinct and stylistically different, without ever sounding contrived,  they all just fit together. The technical level of the five musicians is never to question, showing that they can thrash or play more traditional metal songs as well.

Swedish heavy/doom metallers In Solitude have released their 2nd album, with less doom moments this time. Their dual guitar leads, galloping bass and crying-out vocals, remind a mix of Iron Maiden with Riot in a NWOBHM style. The album was recorded at Nicke Anderson's studio with producer and former Dismember drummer Fred Estby.

8th album by Running Wild and my favourite one. Each song stands as an epic full-speed piratical speed metal, speedy, metallic anthem! Here we are given more of the crunchy, cherished, commanding riffs, leads, solos and straight-up barrages of speedy force. Black Hand Inn proves why Running Wild is one of the best metal bands around.
