Only My Children: Name that Kid Edition

Can you name the kid that...

  • decided she was eating bugs for dinner tonight, and then proceeded to melt into a snotty mess of tears when she found out that was not happening?

  • informed us that she was going to grow antlers out of the top of her head, and then spent the next 5 minutes listing everyone in her life that was going to laugh at her if she did, in fact, grow antlers out of her head?

  • told Daddy that she was going to eat him, because he was a peanut butter sandwich?

True Story Tuesday: The Torture Chamber

When I was 4, I was traumatized for life.

My parents took my to Disneyland and promised an amazing time.

Little did they know.

A part of me wonders if they didn't do it on purpose.

They put me on the most terrifying ride in the entire park.

With only my big sister for protection.

The same big sister that picked on me constantly.

And, when I screamed in abject terror?

They laughed.

What ride was so evil, so terrifying, that to this day I cannot go anywhere near it?

Me, the person who went to two major theme parks on her honeymoon?

Yes, I am terrified of the stupid flying elephant.

And no one in my family has ever let me live it down.

Monday Mugs: Set Your Camera Down

Are you in need of a mindless Monday Blog post? Are you struggling to deal with the weekend being over and can't muster the strength to type a single word? Well, Monday Mugs is for YOU! I may or may not "borrow" ideas from IheartFaces and post my interpretation of their weekly theme. Without submitting my photo for judgement and without being forced to follow the rules.
Mondays are hard! Blogging on Mondays shouldn't be!

We got these amazing, HUGE coloring pages for Christmas.  The only place big enough for them is on the floor.  So that is where the girls color now.

Project 365: Weeks 2 and 3

I missed last weeks post because we were driving back from Phoenix.  I figured that would get me a pass and allow me to lump both weeks together.  And, between Violet getting sick, the emergency trip to Phoenix, and the migraine of doom from this week, I have had to call in my guest photographers.

Puppet Shows and Fat Lips

Well, today started well.

The girls let us sleep till 8:30 (please don't hate me).

We headed in for a special breakfast/brunch at our favorite restaurant.

And they all got hot chocolate.  Happy day!

We took a side trip to the fish store to say hi to Nemo and Dorey.

Then, on to the library for a refresh on the bedtime stories and a puppet show.

After the library, we went to see Grandma, just to say hi.

And that's when all heck broke loose.

Violet loves the antique silver tea set that Pepe has.  She plays with it constantly.

She was carrying the goblet when she missed the little slope up from the tile floor to the wood floor, and fell on her lip.

The goblet decided that lodging itself between her lip and upper gum was a good idea.

And Jerome got to try to catch the streams of blood shooting out of her lip.

Not even exaggerating in the least - streams.

Violet freaked out, Daddy freaked out, the sisters freaked out.

I was stripping her in a desperate but futile attempt to save her beautiful little dress.

Grandma found every towel in the house.

Once the bleeding stopped, Grandma/former nurse took a look at the inside of her lip and thought we should get it checked out.  If Grandma says we should go, we know its rough.

Needless to say, Violet was not a willing participant in the photo op.

The Dr. at the ER took a look and determined that, while nasty, her cut did not need stitches.  But, you know that little ridge of skin in between your lip and gum?  Hers will probably not grow back.  That darn goblet sliced it clear off.  But, the goblet broke in half during the fall, so at least they're even.  And Violets attitude definitely improved when the nurse suggested ice cream to help with the swelling.

Does anyone know of a toddler Mick Jagger lookalike contest?

There Are No Words

You may remember Susana, the precious daughter of missionaries to Haiti, that I wrote about here.  She fought the cancer bravely, and was thought to have entered remission.

She is not.  They had more tests run yesterday, and the tumors are everywhere, including her brain.  The doctors have said that, without further treatment, she has perhaps months to live.

Please, my friends, go to her daddy's blog and leave a word of encouragement for this family.  They have sacrificed so much to minister to the children of Haiti.

On our way

We are sitting on the side of the road somewhere in New Mexico. The girls are watching a movie on our new DVD player (thanks Mom and Dad). Jerome is testifying in court via phone for his clients. Gotta love technology.

We are headed to Phoenix for my grandpa's service tomorrow. And now he is done, so we will be on our way!

Karl Turner: January 28, 1930 - January 9, 2011

He was the ringleader.

He was brilliant.

He was a service station owner, insurance salesman, gambler, casino floor boss, and state employee, among other things.

His last visit to Colorado was for my wedding.

He challenged me to know what I was talking about.

He was a cheater at every game we played.

Grandma was the light of his life, and his high school sweetheart.

Once, when his underground poker ring was doing much better than the one run by the mafia, Grandpa found himself beaten to within an inch of his life, missing his clothes, and tossed out of a car onto his front porch.

And, even when illness and disease ravaged his body,  his mind was still sharp.

This is the last photo I have of my Grandpa.

A moment, frozen in time.

I can still hear his amazing voice, his contagious laugh.

I can still see the ornery look in his eye.  And the love for his family.

I miss you already Grandpa.

Project 365

Project 365 button designed by http://richgift.blogspot.com

I am bravely embarking on a new venture this year.  Sara has this beautiful concept on her blog called Project 365.  The idea is to take a photo every day.  To not miss the little moments.  I have no idea how long I will last at this, but maybe it will help me to be more consistent in my photography.  With that said, here we go!

Day 1/365: Loving the snow!

Day 2/365:  The after-Christmas chaos

Day 3/365:  Fluffy Tushy

Day 4/365: Name that kid, and her favorite Christmas present

Day 5/365: Learning and loving it!

Day 6/365: The view on the way home

Day 6/365:  Too cool for her Mac & Cheese

True Story Tuesday: The Continuing Chronicles of Saint Poopicus

Oh, I wish I could make these things up.  Remember when the girls and I made candy?

Someone mentioned in her comment that I conveniently neglected to mention a key part of the story.

And referenced a certain F*cebook status from that day:

And, of course, my husband couldn't leave well enough alone.

Which caused the explosion of my profile page.

And, of course, I couldn't just let the conversation die.

But, really?  What else can you say when you turn around and see your 4 year old with a spoon down her pants?

The spoon that was just in her mouth.
