A week of CraZiNeSs!

Okay, so I've been meaning to keep updating our blog this week, as I still have LOTS of pictures to share with you. However, our computer crashed. The ironic thing about it crashing is that it crashed on the same day my new laptop arrived at my front door. So after several hours of setting up our new computer, thanks to all of our friends who know more about computers than we do, we are online again.

That's a good thing for me since I have a home-based business that requires a working computer with Internet access. I guess I can say that I'm glad we had a trial run with our computer crashing a few months back because we had all of our files backed up this time. Last time we only had some of our files backed up. We thought we were prepared but learned that having the variety of fonts that I have is a good thing for a vinyl business. Luckily, we were able to restore our computer last time and we promptly backed EVERYTHING up. And for some miraculous reason, my vinyl software works with Windows 7. I'm totally grateful for that since the company that creates the software isn't going to release an update for at least 6 months so that Microsoft can work out any "glitches" first. Since it's my busy season right now with Christmas, I couldn't have had a better prayer answered.

The rest of our week has been busy on top of all of our computer drama. The kids were home from school Thursday and Friday for the end-of-the-semester Parent Teacher Conferences. All of my kids are doing awesome in their classes. So congrats to them for all of their hard work at school.

Jim flew to Oregon for a recruiting trip at Tektronix (his old stomping grounds). We learned about 4 months ago that Tek was laying off most of the Manufacturing employees because they've decided to move all building, creating, and manufacturing to........yep, you guessed it, China. We're so grateful for the insight we had to find a new job BEFORE this happened. Anyway, he enjoyed seeing a lot of his former co-workers. And, of course, Oregon in the fall is absolutely gorgeous. The downside to the trip was that he only went for one day and didn't get to see any of our friends that still live there.

Finally, Lisa had a piano recital last Monday evening. She did a fabulous job (you'll get to see a video in another post. I have to upload my pictures from my back-up first). So I guess until then, I'll be reading about you. : )

Halloween and Music

We LOVE carving pumpkins in our home, slimy insides and all.

We failed two of our children this year by not taking any pictures of them in their Halloween attire. Sorry, Lisa and Tanner!! Regan and Grayson better feel pretty loved since I took pictures of them during their Halloween party/musical show.

Grayson was Batman this year for Halloween. Here he is at his school Halloween party.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lisa had a piano recital at a local Care Center. She did GREAT! I love watching my children develop their talents. Lisa's come a LONG way over the last year in piano...even if she hasn't alway loved it. : )
September.....really? TWO months ago???
What fun we've been having lately. In fact, so much fun that I'll be updating you with a few different posts in order to keep the pics all organized. And so that I'm not sitting at my really slow computer waiting for all of them to upload. Ugh!
Sept. brought new activities of all kinds. School started, the county fair marked the end of another year of 4-H projects, 6th grade Science Camp for Regan, and new neighborhood move-ins. Check it out!
Grayson's first day of Kindergarten. His face says it all!!
Lisa starts 3rd grade.
Regan is our big 6th grader. Can't believe she's in the "oldest" class of elementary. Middle school next year? Aaaaahhhh!
And what, oh what, is Tanner going to do with all of the siblings off to school? Hmmmm......I wonder. Oh, that isn't a road/rug burn on his eye. Look a little closer....
Oh, yes, he found my make-up yet again. I'd have to say, he's getting worse at putting on make-up. : (
Sheep, again! Regan did awesome showing her lamb, which was a bit jumpy I might add.
But she still received a purple ribbon for quality of lamb and had the chance to show her lamb against all the other purple ribbon winners where she came in 4th out of 7. Way to go, Regan. Even after the fun at the fair, we're not sad it's over. Raising sheep is A LOT of work and time.
Regan also did the Candy-Making Project. For her fair display, she quickly put together these super yummy cake ball pops (I added the popsicle sticks after the picture was taken). They looked like mini cupcakes on a stick. She's happy to announce that she received the highest award for the food group and received a huge purple ribbon and $5. (Thanks to Mom for putting the cake pops into a small flower vase and made it look all cute, since Regan was at Science Camp having fun in the outdoors). : )
McCall Idaho Outdoor Science Camp. The camp overlooks this beautiful lake. And they couldn't have asked for better weather!!
Regan's cabin-mates.
The kids all had the chance to canoe the lake. Look at the size of those canoes. Sure hope it never capsizes.
Look who moved into our neighborhood!! Yes, on Sept. 23rd, we went outside to see this beautiful, large horned owl. He and his two companions have taken up residency in one of our neighbor's trees. (Right across the street from us). They come out every night (and sometimes during the day, too. I thought they were nocturnal???), but this is the one we see the most. We've actually come within 10 feet of "him" before he flew to higher ground. Pretty cool!!!!
Singing brings joy to the heart
Like most days, I started today at 5 this morning. Usually I go and work-out at the gym before the kids (and Jim) wake up -- spinning is my favorite! But today I opted to get right to work with my busy day. My to-do list looked like this:
Laundry -- 6 loads total (folded half, the kids folded their own)
Clean kitchen -- before and after canning
Can peaches -- ended up with 38 quarts
Play a game with Grayson
Read books to Tanner
Meet with one of Tanner's speech therapists
Send Regan (and Jim) off to 6th grade Science Camp in McCall, ID, for the first half of the week
Hold FHE -- Lisa did a great job on the lesson: Courage to stand up for the right; story of Abinadi
Read my scriptures
Update Blog
I completed my list. My days aren't always like this, and I don't post this to brag, but I post it to remind me that I can be productive and still spend time with my family. Sometimes I let my "to-do" list get in the way of my family time, but not today, so I am pretty proud of myself. It was a great day!!
And now that I'm about to fall asleep in front of the computer, I had better write down a very cute story before I forget it. Tanner has come a long way with his speech over the last 5 months. He's saying somewhere around 75 to 100 words (I tried writing them all down, but he's adding to the list everyday). That's a big thing for him because 5 months ago he said 4 words--literally. We've taught all of our children basic sign language, and Tanner has truly benefited from this, especially with songs. He loves to "sing." He'll do actions with songs, but has never actually tried singing the words before. Well tonight for FHE, we sung Book of Mormon stories for the opening song....nothing from Tanner. Our closing song was "Wise Man and Foolish Man"....Tanner not only did the actions, but sang a lot of words. I was so excited to hear him sing!!! It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. And then when I tucked him into bed, he sang with me the words to Love One Another. Again, another happy moment for me. He's truly been blessed with some amazing progress. We sure love our Tanner!!!
Summer Fun, cont....
LOTS of camping this year!! And playing in the water, too!
The Schatzes - Friends from church
The Roberts - More friends from church
"Grandpa" Roberts playing a mean game of "Go Fish" with Grayson
We enjoyed the Lipizzaner Stallions and their awesome tricks!
Baseball for the girls -- Go, Lisa, go!!
Regan had a great time playing catcher!
Ha!! A new post!!
Okay, don't faint. I know I didn't follow through with my "it won't be long before I post some pictures of all of our summer activities", so I've been feeling guilty. Here's part one of our summer activities.
Camping at Laird Park -- playing in the water and sand
Hiking
Lots of fishing!!!
I LOVE worms!!!
Oh Where, Oh Where Have the Bloomfields Gone?
Okay, so you're all probably wondering where we've been since my last post was "Summer's finally here!" We've been having lots of fun here around town. No, we haven't had any amazing vacations that have kept me away from my blog. I'm just loving the time with my kids. I promise to post another update (pics and all) SOON. Til' then......
Summer is COMING!!
Yea for warm weather. I have been waiting all Spring for the temperatures to kick it up a notch or two, and I think it finally has. On Saturday, I had a booth at Farmer's Market for the second time this season. What a BEAUTIFUL day. I had zero shade, and people were asking me if I was too hot. Are you kidding? NOOOO! I finally have color to my face, neck, arms, and legs. Who can complain about that?
I am so excited to have summer here, too. People say, but that means you will have all FOUR of your kids home all day long. And your point is???? I love my kids (even when they are yelling non-stop at each other and making me crazy). My life would certainly be pretty boring without them in it. And I can't wait to hide the alarm clock. I mean, really. I don't know if my kids will allow me to sleep in, but I'm excited to try it out. And lastly (what a funny word), I think I'm more excited not to have homework to deal with than Regan and Lisa are. Can you say broken record: is your homework done yet? is your homework done yet? You get the idea.
Jim's been off on a small adventure since Wednesday afternoon. He and a friend from church, Rusty Schatz, took a road trip to Wyoming and then to Nebraska to go brand cattle. Rusty's parents own a ranch in WY and needed help branding, and his brother was helping at the church ranch in NB, so he invited Jim to help him drive the long distance. I have to say that Jim was pretty excited to get the invitation, so how could I say no? Jim grew up on (well not exactly on, but near) his family ranch, so this is "fun" for him. It's been years since his last cattle branding, and although we all miss him, we're glad he got to go. Really, we are!
But let me just say this.....how do single moms (or those with spouses that travel a lot) do it? I must be the biggest wimp around. I did VERY well the first 3 days and then it all went downhill. I tried to keep it together, but to no avail. In fact, if I didn't have a Sunday calling at church, I would have stayed home. Luckily I have some great friends in the ward (we've adopted them as our kids' local grandparents) that adore Tanner so they held him. Now if Grayson and Regan could keep their hands away from each other, we might be okay. So I salute all those Moms out there, especially my sister and sis-in-law, that do this on a regular basis. May God bless you in your efforts.
Let SUMMER begin. 7 school-days and counting!!!!
April showers bring May flowers...or something like that.
Well, I figured I had better post something quick since it's been a month since my last one. The month of May has brought TONS of fun to our house. For starters, it was Jim's 37th b-day. It's pretty weird saying he's 37. The kids got him some new ties, movies, and I got him a new circular saw. He was very excited about them all...especially the ties because the kids (and they really did pick them out) got him some cool ones.
Next it was Grayson's 5th birthday and Lisa's baptism all on the same day. Grayson got some homemade gifts, movies, new toys, pjs, swimsuit and..........
a new BIKE!!! He's been waiting and working for this all year long. You see, he set a goal to stop sucking his thumb by his 5th b-day so he could get a bike. He did it!!!! Good job, Grayson, you look so cool on your new set of wheels!
Lisa's big day went really well. We had more people come to her baptism than we had thought would make it, and that made her feel loved. Thanks to all of you for sharing in her special day.
And because of her baptism, we had Grandpa Hollingshead come visit us for about a week. It was great to have him here for both b-days, Lisa's baptism, and mother's day. It was definitely a busy week!! And truth be told, I think he was glad to be home again after seeing how busy the Bloomfield family can get.
Thanks for visiting us, Dad!
Just go fly a KITE!
It was very windy Thursday, so we took Lisa's new birthday kite for it's FIRST flight. The boys were having lots of fun with dad. I had to stop recording, though, because Tanner let go of the handle, and off went the kite towards our neighbor's house. Luckily it stayed pretty close to the ground, and Jim was able to free the kite from their tree. To our relief....no holes in the kite. (Lisa was still at school. She hadn't had a chance to fly it yet).
"handle" is right above the kite's handle. Makes sense, right? : )
Sick and TIRED of being SICK and tired!
***Heads up...this is a post of pure vent. Nothing else. Move on if you're not in the mood for a bunch of hot air.***
Okay, so can I just say that I'm ready for my family to be healthy again. At least one of us, usually more, have been sick since the beginning of March. Cold, flu, fevers, ear infections, other infections, etc. You name it, we've probably had it.
Currently I have Lisa home from school with the stomach flu and fevers. Tanner has the same thing. (okay, let me interject and apologize to all those who were exposed yesterday at church. Totally thought we were in the clear). Grayson just got over the flu Thursday/Friday. Jim stayed home last Thursday afternoon and all day Friday from work due to a bad cold and body aches. He could hardly talk. In the meantime, he and I both have a cough. I'm not sure if mine stems from allergies or the cold I caught last month, but I've been coughing since March and I'm tired of it!!
On the bright side, here's a funny conversation I had with Regan the other day (who, by the way, is the ONLY person in our family who has not experienced any sort of sickness. But now I've jinxed her by writing it down).
Regan: "Mom, when is it going to be my turn to be sick?"
Mom: pause............"Are you seriously wanting to be sick?"
Regan: "Yes. I'm tired of math. I'd LOVE to stay home from school."
Mom: tried not to laugh too much. "There's so much worse than school and math. You really don't want what your brother has."
Why is it that moms DREAD their kids being sick, but the kids think being sick is better than school??? The grass is always greener....
Oh, and still speaking of sickness, I think I'm going to have to reconsider the whole kid-care situation at the gym I've been working out at. So I usually drop the girls off at school and then head to the gym to work-out. The boys go to kid-care there. It's convenient, free (because I work there 3 hrs/week), and fun for the boys to play with other kids. Last Thursday I read a note that's posted on the counter:
"Attention all parents! Please be aware that your child(ren) may have been exposed to the chicken pox AND/OR croup last week."
Man, 5 a.m. workouts are starting to look more enticing every day (before Jim goes to work). Will it ever end?????
Beethoven anyone?
Jim snapped these adorable pics of Tanner the other day. He totally looks like he's concentrating on the correct notes. I mean, check out the form of his fingers. PERFECT!!!
It's GREAT to be 8!
I can't believe that my baby girl is 8 years old! Look at all that hair...
Lisa's "cake" was made up of cupcakes all iced together into one cake. Her party was held at Wild @ Art, a local ceramics and art store, so the cake is supposed to be a paint palette (cupcakes aren't that easy to shape) with paint splatters everywhere. I'm quite excited about how it turned out since I decorated it. Jim usually does it, but was unable to this time. He's much more artistic than I.
WARNING!!! Lots of present and party pictures. Scroll down if you wish...
Lisa got her rag quilt (you know, the one I told you she was getting on our Christmas post). Yea!! I'm finished with rag quilts FOREVER!!!
Left to Right: Emilie Maillot, Lisa Bloomfield, Jenna Maillot, McKenna Pope, Sade Williams, and Chloe Maillot. If you're wondering about the three Maillot girls, they are triplets and are the daughters of Lisa's school teacher. Only one friend couldn't make it to Lisa's party, Megan Thompson. But she showed up at the very end to say hi. They all had a blast!
