Read Me

I read quite a few books on the plane and during the down times of our cruise.  I have quite a few to review, but I'll start with my favorite: Half Broke Horses.

This is the prequel to my favorite book I read this year: The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. If you haven't read these two books, please go pick them up.

The Glass Castle is the author's memoir.  The book is a almost a series of short memories or stories of her childhood.  While Walls grew up in extreme poverty, she portrays her life story in wonderful way that doesn't seek pity from the reader.  Seriously, this is the best book I read this year.

Half Broke Horses
Walls then wrote Half Broke Horses to tell her grandmother's story.  Written in the same way, the story explains Walls' family background of strong women.

Both of her stories are so interesting its hard to remember that they are depictions of real lives.  Okay, so I'm doing a bad job selling these books--but seriously, go read them and let me know what you think.

British Columbia and the Yukon

Here are the pictures from Canada.  We went into the Yukon and down to Victoria, British Columbia.  It was incredibly beautiful as well--we loved all the outdoor scenery and gardens! Already dreaming about going back....

Again, none of the pictures have been photoshopped or edited.

The Yukon:
Emerald Lake

The world's smallest "desert" (actually a dried up glacier lake--still incredible)
Bove Island

Welcome to Yu_on.
White pass summit. It's hard to see, but the mossy rock was almost lime green in person.
Victoria, British Columbia

The Empress Hotel
Love the ivy and flowers at the Empress. Crazy to think each of these windows is a hotel room

All the light poles had gorgeous hanging baskets of flowers.

China town (yes, we went to Fan Tan Alley)

Cam in front of Craigdarroch castle

Bees on flowers at Craigdarroch castle

My momma and stepdad enjoying pre-dinner drinks.

North to Alaska, Go North The Rush is On

Sorry for the hiatus (isn't that my favorite line lately?), but I started working and have been busy job training and getting into the swing of my new life.  But, I've realized I haven't shared my Alaska pictures! I have so many that I am splitting it up into pictures of Alaska and pictures from Canada. Also, none of these pictures were photoshopped or touched up--it was really this beautiful!

Mom and I by the line for Bingo--it was one of the most crowded events on the ship...

This is without any zoom--this momma bear came within 5 feet of us...amazing.

Icebergs. Again, this hasn't been photoshopped/edited in any way (it was really that grey and that blue).

Another iceberg as we were leaving the Tracy Arm Fjord

We couldn't get over how neon blue the icebergs were
