Aiden's Camping Party!

For Aiden's first "friend" party we decided to do a camping theme!  Aiden loves camping and talks about it all the time.  Strange because we are not huge campers!  We have promised both boys a camping trip in the near future. I am hopeful the fire ban will be lifted sometime this summer so we can have a campfire!

We sent out cute invitations which I will have to figure out how to paste into blogger.

I ordered cake pops from "The Sweet Crate".  My friend Emma makes some super yummy treats!  Here is our table decor:

I made the cake, complete with a graham cracker tent, pretzel campfire and a river with a water fall!

The day was a bit rainy, but what is camping without a little rain?  My parents have an awesome backyard with a pond, stream and lots of trees!  The perfect spot for a little camping.  We set up a tent and let the kids eat Hot Dogs and Watermelon inside the tent.  They loved it!  We played a few games, including a version of Hot/Cold with Aiden's Teddy Bear (We called it "the bear hunt").  The kids LOVED this game!  We also went on a Scavenger Hunt!  The kids enjoyed running around and playing on the swing set outside.  In addition to cake and cake pops the kids also got to roast marshmallows in my Dad's firepit!  The party ended just in time for a down pour that finally came.  The kids even loved running in the rain!

What a fun day!  Enjoy some more pictures:

 "The campfire has real fire!"

Special Thanks to our Pyro Technics team for manning the fire during the party!

Catching up...

Okay really there is no way I can catch up, but I decided I need to start blogging again.  I can't go back and catch up on everything, but you'll get to see some exciting highlights from just the past few months!  Thanks for reading...

I have thought about this for a while and have come to the conclusion that I want our family blog to be private. I worry about people I don't know or trust finding my kids! I guess I am one of those paranoid mom's? I have monitored our traffic for a while...and see some unusual viewers who I don't recognize. I don't want to exclude anyone, so I am going to try to add people to the list who I know read our blog. If you want to be included please send me your email! I will be going private on June 15th to give all time to respond. Thanks for reading our blog...hopefully I will actually get some updates on here soon!

Winter Weekend Getaway!

I have to preface this post with one thing...I have NEVER won anything in my life! In early January I was trying to find some kind of getaway for our family and I found some contests on Mile High Mama's website and I thought what the heck..I'll try for them all! As it so happened the one that was my favorite ended up being the one that I won! Oh my goodness was I thrilled! So we won 2 nights at the Crested Butte Mountain Grand Lodge which is a short walk from the ski lifts. We also won 4 lift tickets for 2 days. Wow! I was so excited about this trip! All we had to pay for was gas, food, ski rental and ski school for the boys. Which still added up to a lot but we both got our year end bonuses this month so it was our "bonus trip"! We chose Presidents Day weekend since Randy and the kids had the day off. Sadly I had to work a little bit while we were up there (system deployments!) but it actually went smoothly and I didn't waste too much time working.

I was worried about the drive down 285 with a snowstorm moving in. We hit monarch pass and a blizzard. Visibility was bad, my wipers were frozen and we creeped along at 10 mph. Randy is a great driver and even though he was concerned I wasn't worried about his driving in any way. He took his time and didn't try to push it.
Aiden had fallen asleep on the way. I captured this picture just before we hit the really bad part of the storm. Later he was rudely awoken when Randy had to roll down the window to grab the wipers in hopes that he could break some of the ice off. A huge gust of wind blew snow right in Aidens face. Poor guy.

We got the boys in ski school for one day. They loved it! Being as different as they are, they each have their own approach to skiing.

Riley is cautious and takes his time. He has great balance, and can turn and stop fairly well. He can get down the hill and back to the lift pretty well on his own. Here are some pictures of him. We managed to get over to see the end of their lessons. The picture of Riley looking at the camera is my new favorite!

Aiden on the other hand has NO FEAR! He wants to do it all "by myself"!! His favorite part of skiing is going FAST! With no care for what, or who might be in his way. And stopping...well...not really a high priority when you are going fast. :) However...he has great balance and can turn and do all the things he needs to. They said he mastered Pizza, but when I hung out with him at the Magic Carpet, I didn't see much Pizza motion as I was chasing him down the hill to prevent colisions with the little ones who didn't have great balance. ;)

Randy got to ski for a while by himself which he enjoys since he is much better then I am. When I caught up with him we hit the slopes. I got my confidence back pretty quickly and he always takes time to give me pointers and remind me that I am actually a lot better then I think I am. On my last run of the day I was finally making some good speed and turning well. Randy lost control and slid and I of course zoomed past him laughing...unfortunately I too lost control and a much higher rate of speed and did a lovely somersault loosing both skis behind me. I always thought it was odd how people would just lay there after a fall, but I am getting older and I really needed a few minutes to assess any damage. Randy had sped down after me and was worried because I wasn't responding. I ended up laughing histerically at myself. I did twist both of my knees unfortunately. So that was my last run for the day. We needed to pick up the kids from ski school anyway. :) (As I am writing this my knees are taped up courtesy of my chiropractor/sports medicine doctor. Hopefully they will be feeling better in a couple of days.)
You may be wondering how I survived skiing in teen digits with my cold allergy. I took my meds every day for a week before and every day while there. My neck and face still got red and itchy but it wasn't nearly as bad as I know it can get. At least now I know that the meds do work. They had an outdoor heated pool and hottub. I avoided those because I was pretty sure that being wet all over and in the low digit temps that not even the meds would help me there. I did wait for the boys inside the indoor pool area which had a gate you could swim under to get to the outside. I didn't touch the water...too cold for this girl! A teenage boy was facsinated by my condition when he asked why I wasn't swimming. Glad I can entertain people with my quirks.

We had a wonderful time together. I got lots of hugs from the boys who were both as thrilled as I was to be away from our normal routine and spending some quality time together! We need to do little trips like this more often....especially if they are partially paid for to begin with! :D But serioiusly...I do love spending time with my family and this is a trip we will remember for a long time. Thank you Mile High Mama's!!!

On the flip side weather wise our drive home was beautiful. :D

Now we need to plan our next getaway! :D Maybe a warmer location next time?

Christmas 2010

Every year we hope to have a quiet relaxing enjoyable time together. This year was certainly relaxing. I minimized a little and tried not to do to much after our trip to Mexico. I'm glad I did this! I was also able to take 2.5 weeks of vacation time so I could spend all of Riley's Winter Break with the kids.

We went to my parents house for Christmas Eve and enjoyed dinner with my family (minus Matt's family) and the missionaries. It was a nice evening!

Christmas morning was so fun this year! We felt like it was a really relaxing quiet time for our family to be together. On Christmas Eve Riley was asked by our favorite Chiropractor what his favorite part of Christmas was. I was surprised, but his answer was "Breakfast!" So, apparently he likes that I actually make a big breakfast once a year? Last years breakfast was a disaster after hearing that Santa got Riley's order wrong I ended destroying omlettes. So this year...we went with pancakes. How can you mess those up?

Aiden wanted a DS for Christmas so he could be like his brother. It comes in handy at times when we need to boys to sit patiently, but for Aiden...he is still way more interested in running around like a crazy man anyway.

Riley got him Hungry Hippo from Riley and this was the BIG hit for the day. We had fun playing it together.
Of Course Aiden is always the GREEN hippo in case you wondered.

Here is the DS. Santa found a used one for a great price! (phew!)

Riley only asked for two things this year. A Harry Potter Wand and a Chess Set. (Easy not to mess these up, unlike Clone Trooper and Storm Trooper suits...I still don't know the difference!)
EXPELLIARMIS! (He shouted as he tried out his new wand with a swish and flick!)

Chess set! He sure loves learning this game. (Notice the Hedwig owls in the background...both boys got wands and Owls. Riley named his owl Hedwig and Aiden named his owl Hedwig Too!)

After we opened presents and hung out for a while we headed up to Randy's parents house. Upon arriving we were informed that Sean was in the hospital. He had an Appendectumy the week before (it had ruptured) and had complications. He ended up spending the next week at the Hospital. Thankfully he had really good care there and he is back up in Rexburg again. My lack of pictures can be attributed to all the running around we did that afternoon. We enjoyed spending the rest of the evening with Randy's parents and Monica and Horacio and Caylin. (Horacio makes some GOOD ribs!)

We hope you all enjoyed your Christmas too!

Santa Santa HO HO HO!

While we were in Mexico, the boys went to the Primary activity - Breakfast with Santa. Here is Aiden telling Santa his wish list. Here is Santa trying to figure out how old Aiden is, since he tells people different numbers all the time. :D

And this is my favorite picture. Totally Riley! I think Santa got his order right this year! :D

More Christmas posts to come. How is that for catching up?
(Thanks Jessica for taking these pictures for me!)

Turkey Bowling!

As is tradition in our family we went bowling on Thanksgiving. It is always the highlight of our day! Aiden had so much fun that everytime we drive by the bowling alley he asks if we can go bowling today! Maybe we can take them bowling this weekend. (I feel like we have been cooped up recovering from Christmas and then having Aiden get sick yesterday).

Here are some pictures of our fabulous "Turkey Bowl"!
